Good Morning
-6 this morning and still snowing forecast is for a high of +2. I believe we have had over 100" of snow in the last 9 days.
Praying for things to get better for all the folks down south.

Welcome to the GM thread, KCY. Yoopers are generally pretty hearty people, as I recall. Tough winters up there.

On the bright side, it was -35°F in International Falls this morning.

Could not get an accurate measurement on how much snow. This snow was a dry blowing snow and there are 2' drifts or 0" bald spots. Average guess would be 6". How do you measure this type of snowfall? The snow did not accumulate on the roofs it just blew off (except in a few valleys). In full sun now and 15˚F.

No tracks in the street - no cars no walkers. The wind is still blowing the dry snow about.

My son’s college was closed thr and fri, maybe he will be off some more this week. When he was physically in AR, he never even took a winter coat.
You will want one this week. Supposed to be 0° tomorrow at 7am.

Good morning. It was 11° with 15 mph north wind this morning .. resulting in -6° "feels like". It's already up to 16°. The present forecast for tomorrow morning is 13° so .. this morning might be our "coldest" day.

Snow here, was dry and very fine powder getting blown around by the wind, so I'm guessing between 1-2" total.

GD Madison, in San Marcos (Texas State) said they got 2-3" of snow and it was 9° this morning. This is 3rd time she's even seen snow in person.

We had our turn for the "rolling blackout" from exactly 10 a.m. until exactly 10:40 a.m. The temperature in the house stayed at 72°.

Hope everyone stays warm and safe today.

Prayers to all.

I don't know how you measure it either. But my rain gauge that holds 6" of water is almost full of snow.:confused3: Now whether that's a reasonable measurement is anybodie's guess.

I seem to recall one of you Texans bragging on how warm it was there compared to the rest of us, well our forecast high tomorrow is 61.

If we did .. it's because it was true Randy. Last week it was 74° at LCR and -1° at my brother's place. That's a 75° delta.

That caused him to head down to South Padre Island this weekend. It was 25° there .. this morning. I'm rolling on the floor LMAO.

26F and cloudy @ 14:00, and 26F will be the high for the day supposedly. Probably got 1/2" or less of snow overnight, nothing today other than a stray flake here and there. Snow could start around 16:00 though ...

Couple of the local junior woodchucks came by a little bit ago and asked if the could use our "hill" next to the house to go tubing. Woman said she felt so bad for them she thought about getting dressed and taking them to Firestone Metro ... that didn't happen though ...

Put box blade on Kubota yesterday and did a little cleanup on the driveway ... although it really didn't need it.

Needed to locate the pto shaft extender for the snowblower (cut the blower shaft before I got the 3PH quick hitch - so it was a little short ) ... so I headed up to the shop and fired up the double-barrel stove to warm things up a little and went back out and dropped the box blade and got snowblower mounted but not hooked up.

Went back up to shop after I grabbed my Streamlight edc which I had forgotten previously and after some poking around located the shaft extender. It ended up being in good shape with the lock pin being free ... just needed a little lube so I hit it with some WD-40.

After that I worked on the quick-release coupling for the blower PTO shaft - it had combo of ice/mud/rust in it, melted the ice with MAPP gas torch, cleaned out the debris with a wire brush and flushed it with water in a squirt bottle and then worked on freeing the coupling up some before I quit as it was getting dark last evening.

Finished freeing the coupling up a little bit ago and then worked to free the shaft itself up (jammed closed) Got that freed up and the driveline all connected up and then engaged the rear PTO and ran it to make sure everything was working as it should. Lubed the chain while I was at it. All in all, not too excruciating an ordeal.

So we should be ready for snow ... if it ever materializes ...

It's probably been 10 years or better since we've had to blow snow ... don't usually need it, but it's sure nice to have when you do.

If we lived another 20 miles north and 10 miles further east, I'd probably using it some every year.

Agenda for the rest of the day: will be to refill feeders and maybe a trip down to Canal Fulton Provisions before the weather gets bad to grab a duck and a couple of nice steaks.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...

Hi all, been busy, nothing fun.
Fixed microwave, was a switch. 2nd one to go, easy fix.
Gathered some more firewood from the big stack and brought it up.
Had some good aged steaks on the grill last night.
Got my medicine from the pharmacy. One medicine rejected by insurance, doc is appealing..
House alarm sensor batteries are starting to go, new ones ordered, but a pain to bypass sensors each time to set the alarm.

LS- glad to hear your back home. Hospitals are terrible places to get rest and recover
Randy - when my Mom got sick she hung on and passed the day after my new wife and I got back from our honeymoon. Maybe she is waiting for more visits
DFTodd - sounds like your getting walloped with snow-stay safe
Sodamo - glad your shot affect seems to be wearing off

Calling for rain, snow, ice, 20's 50's - seems like the weeks weather here will be ...... random

Did a run by the next town overs hardware store, real nice old place with a whole aisle of hardware. Every time in Newtown, I drove by it , first time I stopped in. Will go back when I need something more.

Stay safe and be well.

US oil rises above $6 as Texas gets pummeled with ice and snow - CNN
this cold weather is having quite an effect on Texas in many ways, including shutting down the main
refinery due to cold temps.
Prices already starting to climb at the pump

It's been a quiet day, got all my paperwork and various ID's ready for trip tomorrow morning to Warrington PO to get my renewal passport.
Hope weather warms and turns to rain by breakfast. I don't have to be there until 9:30am so gives them time to put down even more salt.

Anyone with a snow plow and salt spreader in Colorado, Texas or Arkansas next few days will be a busy fellow.
Just supposed to be ice here.
Let's all stay out of the ditch.

Ken, if same ancient hardware store downtown in Newtown, problem for me was finding out where to park behind the place, not many spaces.
They were the closest hardware store to me in Holland, and I always enjoyed shopping there when I could.
Am lucky the hardware store in New Hope is good, owned by someone I have known forever, who now owns four hardware stores run by next generation including this one.
I'm going to get a Weber grill from there when the weather warms. They will assemble it and deliver it which is nice.

Please tell me why smoke alarms go off about 1.00 - 2.00 a.m. every time. Why can't they do it during daylight hours? Stuffs up my sleep every time. Have to get a ladder to shut the darns thing up. Grrr

18 deg Celcius this morning. Coolest it has been for a loooong time.

If it ain't one thing, it's another. I've been letting the faucet in the kitchen sink drip, or run a tiny stream, but I went to wash a couple of dishes and found that opening the faucet didn't do anything. Wide open gets the same tiny stream that I already had. I'm inclined to think that, instead of any of my plumbing having a problem that the problem is the city's pressure system needing some service. Anyway, I called the city, and got an answering machine so maybe they'll call back eventually.

I seem to recall one of you Texans bragging on how warm it was there compared to the rest of us, well our forecast high tomorrow is 61.

33° with light rain, freezing rain in some area’s our forecast is 48° tomorrow, then get cold again, 8” snow comes again on Thursday.
Left work a little early due to weather.
From the looks of the crowd in Costco, you would think snow was tonight. I went for windshield washer fluid, then forgot to look for it. 🤦🏻

If in doubt, shut off where it comes into house.

100 lbs whole corn, 50 lbs cracked corn, 20 lbs shelled peanuts, 16 lbs safflower seed, and ten suet cakes unloaded from van brought around back the Kubota and stowed away.

Hopper feeder, two sunflower tube, two nyjer tube, squirrel, deer, and two suet feeders refilled. Five scoops of cracked corn put out on the ground.

Also refilled nugget feeder with a mix of whole corn and shelled peanuts.

Washed out birdbath and refilled.

Modified mealworm feeder by removing screws that hold the can the mealworms go in to take the Menards "Mega Suet Block" and put that out:

IMG_0794 copy.jpg

IMG_0795 copy.jpg

The Woman reports that a Red Bellied Woodpecker has already visited the refilled suet feeders outside the living room picture window. Saw a squirrel on its feeder and numerous birds at the rest. Black birds were hitting the refilled deer feeder hard.

Did not get ear of corn feeder refilled ... cob was too hard to screw it on the screw. Suet feeder at window over kitchen sink still needs refilled.

Got a few flurries while I was out filling things up but it's back to nothing at this point.

Warming the toes before I venture out to the garage to get The Woman some more potting soil, then heading out to get the fowl and meats.

Gas and diesel prices have been going up for over a month here. The price for liquid used in asphalt has been seeing steady increases since December. I think CNN is leaving something out. Asphalt prices to increase pretty substantially if these prices keep going up

Grocery prices are going up too been noticing that for a while too

Just observations mind you on my part

It feels nice to join civilization again...power has been restored so we have running water again. Snow and ice still here, but melting...many trees and limbs down and will need to clean up once things dry out (August?). I thought we had it bad, but you guys in Texas always go big...hope it warms up soon. Tell The Whip that Coco was sliding on the ice, too. We've been tracking animals while the power's been out, and of course feeding the woodstove.

...and BEF, tell bumblebee "Hi!"

Buppies, hope you have power now...still lots of outages in our district. Glad your big propane tank got filled.

LS, glad you are home safe and sound before the storm hit and hope not too much pain.

Thomas, what a huge snowpile you can make!

Randy, I was living between Lynnhaven and Cape Henry when the Bay froze over in the late 70s, and we walked the beach a lot marveling at such a sight...huge icebergs washed up and then froze together and we walked/climbed over them.

Dftodd, cool that you got the wife a Sig for Valentines...I got a box of ammo.

Eric, I read your "agitation" post to my wife and we both laughed hard...but won't work as well as Randy's carpetbagger post.

Kyle, prayers for your family.
