Update: Not sure where Weather Underground got their info this morning, but the actual temperature when I left the house (just before 0500) was -5 degrees. Not much wind, fortunately...

Good morning, with lows of -7C/19F and chilling winds these last few days, the ground has really firmed up, not a speck of mud on my welly boots.

Found a new visitor taking shelter and making the most of the sun when I went to give the sheep breakfast. Gave me a really mean "don't you dare" look as I started to take away the hay. I survived, so that proves I must be more man than mouse




LS, congrats on becoming mortgage free, that is a truly liberating feeling.

Randy, although at this time you must feel sad, you have been lucky to have a great mom in your life for such a long time.

Don, thermite will open most things - perhaps just a little harsh on mailbox contents.

48 here in SC this morning and raining again. Supposed to do that for the whole weekend and most of next week. My big farmer friend that I've been horse trading with bought 4 new 8000 gallon fuel tanks. He had a really good looking 500 gallon tank left that he gave me. I got it setup yesterday and ordered fuel which was delivered. Filled that tank and topped my 200 off. 600 gallons. I should be good for a while.

All the rivers here have been above flood stage for months. My yard looks like a mud bogging pit but I can't stop, I have things to do. I will deal with it when it dries.

Good Morning
18 here and supposed to get to 30 with clear sky.

Got the snow cleaned up yesterday, it was close to 6”.

Mostly- switch was in the storage space between two dormers, woodshedding meant practicing, bass was an instrument, not a fish. Hope that clears it up

After plowing most of the day was spent on speaker cabinet. I did decide to “improve” the SSQA snow plow by adding skids to the mount to keep the bottom of the loader arms from scraping the surface if set too low. I have a mental plan on how to proceed, hopefully I’ll execute it today while glue cures.

Randy, sorry to hear about you mom, I lost mine at 96 years old back in July.

The classic and modified car talk brings back many memories. Over the years I’ve transplanted at lot of small block chevy’s. In high school I put one in a 59 English Ford Escort station wagon, when I reflect on the quality of my work then, it’s amazing that I survived. The only odd vehicle I have now is a Grumman KubVan, which at one of 500 or so built is actually the rarest one I’ve ever had.

Going to try again to day for vaccination appointment at grocery store pharmacy. No word from the county.

Until a couple of days ago, I thought we were going to almost have no Winter. Guessed wrong again. In spite of the cold, my immediate area has had no ice problems . . . so far. Yesterday afternoon, I got an email that it was time for me to have an eye exam, and I knew I needed a change in my spectacles, so I called to make an appointment and the young lady asked if I wanted to come in today in about an hour. I did. They had one patient/customer when I arrived for one doctor and 2 other employees. After the eye exam, I went next door to order new glasses and there were 2 employees and no customers. They did have one more customer show up before I got my order done.

My wife and I both have an appointment Monday morning with a new doctor that we think we want to be our "primary care" doctor in the future. But we haven't met him yet. However, with snow forecast for the weekend, and maybe even Monday, I'll probably change that appointment to a later date.

Those temps are a good excuse to stay inside and feed the woodstove.

Woke up to minus 11 twice invigorating everything in my nose froze

daugen, I'm not certain on the fuel usage for this new tractor but it is considerably more than the old 5310. I won't use all that much but I wanted to get it while it was still sub $2/gal. Sounds like it will start going up immediately. I have to go get fuel treatment for it today. He gave me a 120V transfer pump, old Gasboy, that I have to check out and go through. The flow meter is bad on it so I hope I can get a replacement for it.
