saw a confirm for an Amazon delivery that must have come in after dinner last night and I never heard them.
And sitting out in the cold all night were my packages, thankfully the cold wouldn't bother anything.
Garden seeds and tools coming in, feels strange to have to buy this stuff all over.

Four O'clocks going into garden planters I intend to build along driveways to fill in a few of the holes where prior shrubs/trees died.
Hoping they attract hummingbirds. Not sure they will overwinter, dicey, they might if I cut them back and put covers on them.

25 and clear, going to 52 and sun.

You guys have done a great job clearing your trails and drives. We've let the ground warmth and sun tackle our snow since it never got over 5". I drove to the park yesterday, and was surprised how much has melted everywhere...but still some on the trail in the shade of the trees and bluff.

Ted, sorry to hear you need a new septic tank. Is this a better time of year to dig where you are?

Kyle, how is your son? Hope not hurting from his crash.

Don, that looks like a Rick-sized brush pile at your park. Will they burn it, or just let it rot/compost? That's how I do mine. I lay brush on top of logs placed to create wildlife homes for rabbits and foxes...unfortunately the skunks found them, too. The foxes will sometimes tunnel underneath them and within several years the brush rots and makes a great organic soil additive. Of course, we have more rain, so our decomposition will be faster here.

Good Morning.
27 with sunshine and 40 degrees forecast.

Yesterday found me shoveling quite a bit of snow. First was around the heat pump condenser for the shop, it was almost buried in a drift next up was the access to my old generator shed which is used for storage now. Then off to the airport to clear in front of the hangar, as the snow removal crews have strict instructions not to get any closer than 3 feet to any building. In this last storm that left me a 60 foot long 3 foot wide strip of heavy wet snow about 18” deep. Fortunately I only had to move it away from the doors, then they would move it with a plow.

Cant tell if I’m sore this morning from the shoveling or the fall I took in the shop carrying a 5 gallon jug of fuel and talking on the phone.
The fall shattered the sacrificial glass on the Apple Watch which asked me if I fell and was I Ok. I guess if I didn’t acknowledge it, it would have called my emergency contacts or 911.

Made some progress on the speaker project and had a pretty good day overall.

Kyle- hope your son faired better than his bike from the crash. I know that I don’t bounce anywhere near as well as I did when I was younger. In well over 50 years of motorcycling, many of those in competition, I didn’t break a bone until after I was collecting Social Security.

Still no word on vaccination.

Don’s land clearing project reminds me a project that we did here last fall. We reclaimed an area that had been allowed to grow wild and was completely overgrown.
My neighbor (the one with the big Cummins Generator, on the farm that has the old drag strip on it) has a MeriCrusher, which is best described as a cross between a roto tiller and a pavement milling machine. He has it mounted on a New Holland TV-140 articulated tractor.. IMG_2589.jpg
Here’s the area that we cleared-
IMG_4661.jpg
And here’s what it looked like in progress
IMG_4687.jpg
After the MeriCrusher was done, we went over it with a Harley rake and seeded it. It’s all green now.

Paul, hope you are feeling alright.

I'm headed downtown and will feel good to get out of here, first time in three days.
Waiting until hardware store opens at 8am for birdseed and then will go to Giant supermarket.

Ted, sorry your septic system truly crapped out...better let the pros do the install and you do the landscaping.

Kyle, please tell your son we are all rooting for him, to have fun and do it safely.

sky is getting bluer, going to be a nice day.

Bad news on the septic inspection.... the tank is shot. Well, just half of it.... doesn't matter, have to replace it. Apparently having a water softener created an imbalance of PH .... neutral or slightly acidic water on the inside, alkaline soil on the outside.... took 26 years, but it messed up the concrete bond. The leach field is fine...Whew! Still going to cost $3 grand. I /we were going to attempt to do it ourselves, but materials /permit would cost $2500 for us.... definitely not worth the hassle! That should happen next week, depending on when the permit comes through.
My softener runs into it's own pit. I did this on a recommendation from the guy that pumps out my septic tank. Not sure it is legal here. But it's been that way for 40 years.

Only conflict is the daily aspirin regimen.... surgeon wants me to stop taking 5 days prior, cardiologist wants me to continue until evening before.... mmmm.... I think I will follow cardiologist advice. He also wants aspirin to begin again the day after surgery.

Dang if you do dang if you don't :confused3: sounds like our local hospital. :confused2:

. . . now is not the best of times to see a dentist :D

Dentist, appointment today, thanks Eric.

Thomas, the Park employee did not share seats time. Just being in the woods with my chain say doing trail work on a sunny 55˚ day was good enough for me.

Good morning! 61˚F heading close to the Alien temperature range in the 80s. Maybe a record breaking day for February. Normal Temp range is 40-60˚F for this month.

After trail clearing I came home and fulfilled a deal with the neighbor. he had some extra recycle lawn bags (large paper) and I said I would buy them from him. he said he only took food instead of money and was delighted to receive a pan of black bean brownies for the bags. He's the neighbor whose wife died from cancer a few months ago. I scalped the yard using the batteries 6 times in the ego mower. When you lower the mower it really eats the batteries fast so I always had one fast charging. Filled 5 large bags with dead grass from just the front yard. Maybe later I can start on the back yard. The monthly yard recycle pick-up day is Friday. The first Friday of each month we have 3 garbage trucks come by. 1. regular garbage. 2. recycle (cardboard, paper, plastic, glass, cans). 3. yard recycle waste.

Good Morning!!!! 46F @ 5:15AM. Abundant sunshine. High 63F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.
Overcast and drizzly yesterday, but no accumulation to speak of. Only an inch for the system. I'll enjoy the sunshine this coming weekend, but will welcome another system coming in toward the end of the week.

Lots of red freckles on the shoulder, Eric, and painful chewing for a day or so from a sore jaw. I'm hoping one of these will bring the comb up so it slides under my face instead of slapping it. Got the Meprolight sights mounted yesterday, and they're very dim. That mounting rail on the top of the receiver seems to be crying out for a red dot...

Glad most of you got through the big storm without too much work; sorry you took a tumble, Paul. Blame it on the phone?:laughing:

Good news on the knee, Ted. Do you have a date set yet for the surgery?

A neighbor used a masticator on his property about five years ago. Looking at it now, you can't even tell. They're good at knocking down the brush, but if you don't go back over it and take out the roots, everything comes back.

Funny you should mention seeds, Drew. Yesterday I ordered some morning glories to cover the east facing banks on the pad next to the garage. That circuit of the sprinkler system is still intact, but my brown thumb is still gonna need all the help it can get to see any blooms.

Been curious about the new MacOS Big Sur version, so a few days ago tried to install it on one of the laptops. Took the better part of a day to download; it's a very portly 12+ gigs. Then it kept hanging, saying "12 minutes remaining". Seems like a lot of folks were complaining about that, and there was a suggestion to reset the SMC (whatever that is) to fix it. That did work, but the installation took the better part of an hour, with more than the usual number of restarts and blank screens. Seems to be working fine, now though, but I really haven't found anything special to recommend the upgrade. Changing the radius of the icons and adding more emojis just doesn't seem worth having to upgrade apps that won't work under the new OS.

No leaks on the toilet, so that job seems to be done.

More time digging for receipts and photos to document fire losses yesterday, but I think I'm getting pretty close to done. The forester I'm meeting today works for a company named Firestorm Wildfire Suppression, which seems much more oriented towards my concerns than Andy's Tree Service and the rest of the garden variety tree companies. Sure miss the days when you could grab the Yellow Pages, find your category, and have some assurance you've covered all the available options for your area. Now with Yelp, and various google searches, you have a lot of chaff to sift out, and you never know if the reviews are genuine or not.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!

37°F and light rain this morning, going up to 43° today. Expecting rain most of the day.

I replaced the flap on the upstairs toilet several months ago. It worked for awhile, then started leaking again. So, I just put in an entire new kit. Worked fine until a few days ago, when it started leaking again. For all its modern conveniences, plumbing is just aggravating.

17F and "fair" @ 10:00, headed up to a high of 38F with some sun. Snow headed in, in the overnight ... accumulation of less than an inch.

Deer came cruising through last evening around dusk, second from left is a buck with only one antler remaining. There were another 4 or 5 out of frame:

IMG_0786 copy.jpg

All looked pretty healthy, will probably put some corn out for them today.

Rest of feeders are due to be refilled today as well. Squirrel feeder taking heavy damage ... someone has gnawed off the wood on left side board at the bottom where the slot is for food to come out ... :confused2:

Need to move van from in front of house once it warms up later, probably put registration sticker on it as well, while I'm at it.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...

27F cloudy light wind.

Good day for outside projects...snow clean from all roofs, paths clean,3+ hours push back driveway snowbanks and parking area plus small barn,Mrs. made smart @ss comment "you expecting plane to land"

Not much plan for this evening...recliner dinner recliner slice carrot cake while watching movie bed before 10.

Enjoy the evening all.
Beautiful place to live Thomas. I would be most comfortable there. Can you shoot and play loud music anytime and pee of the porch without bothering anyone?:D

Had my one year follow up on my heart valve replacement this morning, all is well, except I found some of the weight I’d lost.
27-41 so far today with bright sun.
They are supposed to deliver the new storage building tomorrow, it’s going to be Ellen’s she shed.

If it ever warms up I have work to do outside, doesn’t have to warm, just not so cold. I can work a bit hot but I can’t work when I’m cold.

Not much happening around here so far.

Good morning All.

It’s been quite a few days since I last posted. Time flies when you are having fun!

A chilly 28 this morning, 35 right now and headed for a high of 39. Rain headed in tonight will knock back the snow that covers the ground here.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Frank
