David, good luck with the fire ants. Now there's something I'm glad I left back in NC.
Huge amount of nasty chemicals including Amdro dumped every year on ground trying to kill them, and all those poisons that
affect your nervous system are getting washed into the creeks, lakes, bays and oceans.
But I had to go on patrol every two days with the golf cart or the farm would be overrun with mounds.
Worst was the floods, then they started popping up in unusual places. I was bit dozens of times by them, nasty
itchy welts.

24 degrees now. 20 mph NW wind. Today will test my resolve to walk every morning. Some kind of winter event coming this weekend.

Have you been following the How's Eddie thread? Scary! Hope all those folks have a full recovery.

Chris

No, have not seen that one.

A Twitter thread with a good take on exactly what we could be facing with COVID-19 from Ashish Jha, Professor and Dean @ Brown University's School of Public Health:

Heard of SARS-CoV2 variant from Japan?

No?

How about one from South Korea?

No?

Surely variants from New Zealand & Vietnam?

Of course not

Because these places haven't given rise to scary variants

But what places have.....has big implications for ending the pandemic

23F and mostly cloudy @ 14:00 ... but I sure see a lot of sunshine here ...

Lots of feeder activity today, The Woman reporting deer moving through early this morning ... personally, I haven't seen them for a while. But I have seen the hurt they have put on that one rhododendron on the west side by the squirrel feeder ...

No big plans for today, other than schedule some bills for payment, work on grocery order and kitchen clean up.

Hope everyone is having an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...

Hi everyone.
Lovely warm morning, (6.00 am) few clouds, no wind. Going to the club today to fly my RC planes. I haven't flown for several weeks due to health/weather. Hope I remember how to. :)
I will just take a large petrol engined one today. Can't be bothered packing and unpacking more than that at present. Got word that quite a few will be attending. It is a great friendly club. We all enjoy the social side as well as flying.
This evening my stepson and his partner are coming for the night. We get on well with them. They live near Brisbane.
So my day is planned and should be a great one. Had a good nights sleep but we watched a movie until 12.30 a.m. I usually fall asleep well before then.
Best wishes to all.
Downunder Doug.

My wife cut my hair last night, best barber I’ve had, she doesn’t have much to work with but she gets it done.

Very good preliminary report in my echocardiogram, EF is up from 30% to 55%.

Weather Channel forecast is for 3-5” of snow on Sunday, changing to rain with 3/4” of rain changing back to snow Tuesday morning
Accuweather and Weather Bug are saying a little snow and not much rain.
Both are saying strong winds, we have those now, gusts to 37 this afternoon.

Looks like I'm going to have to hunt for that second vaccination. They no longer are giving it where my appointment was suppose to be

That really is a shame; for you to have so much trouble getting your vaccinations after you helped others of us, including me, of course, to get ours quicker.

Looks like I'm going to have to hunt for that second vaccination. They no longer are giving it where my appointment was suppose to be, and of course trying to get info on the phone is impossible with 136,156 people still on the waiting list trying to get their appointment to get the first shot.

Did they give you an appointment for the second dose when you got the first one, then cancel on you?

Did they give you an appointment for the second dose when you got the first one, then cancel on you?

I did get a appointment date on the back of the card, just a date, no time and that place has now been discontinued as a hub. An e-mail from the CA this afternoon said they will contact me where to get the second shot on the 18th. I hope so because there is no contacting them.
Our FireWise leader now has covid. We worked in a narrow drainage ditch behind some houses Tuesday, we all wore mask because we could not keep more than 6' away. Next week has already been canceled.

No, have not seen that one.

Eddie is recovering, he had a positive covid test December 18th. His latest post today:
"I'm doing a lot better. I took all of last week off and was feeling pretty good by the end of the week, but my wife insisted that I stay home and not exert myself. The issues happen when you start to breath heavy, and doing just about anything made me short of breath. I started a job on Monday with a list of things to do so they can sell it. This is pretty common work for me that isn't too physical, just a lot of little things to do all day long. So far, I'm making it through the day just fine, but I am worn out by the time I get home.

Karen is doing great. She has her full sense of smell and taste back, plenty of energy and no breathing issues. Her version of Covid was significantly less then mine, yet she has Asthma, Lupus, Heart issues, and she had colon cancer less then 3 years ago. The biggest difference that we both feel is significant is that she has been on Hydroxychloroquine for her Lupus, and I do not take any medications."

I see Johnson and Johnsons new vaccine is nearly ready. It's a single shot one. Seems like tests show it to be more effective than others too. Immunity is improved.

Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations over 7
inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph creating
significant blowing and drifting of snow.

sure looking forward to this...but 7 inches is no big deal

hope you all have a pleasant Friday evening.

We have 7-14” prediction.

I found the thread on Eddie. I knew he was recovering from COVID from his comments elsewhere.

My brother is back in hospital, he didn’t say why. Tomorrow is his birthday.

According to the map, WV and PA won’t get any.

Also forgot to mention: looks like very good news on the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

Thats good to hear. Wife got her second Moderna shot yesterday.

First shot felt like she got a mule kick to the shoulder starting the day after the shot that lasted for three days.

Second shot produced the mule kick after a couple hours. Then came a fever, cold chills and sweats, upset tummy, vomiting, and the mother of all headaches.

She won't be getting the booster shot they are talking about for the Moderna vaccine.

Actually it does. The places with the most infections are mutating.

Don may be unfamiliar with Twitter and that a Twitter thread is composed of multiple tweets.

For it to make sense, you actually have to read all the Tweets in the thread, and you have to click the link in order to do that - something I did not make clear.

Thats good to hear.

Yes - while the overall effectiveness is actually lower than the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, it appears that J and J product is better at preventing cases from becoming severe, requiring hospitalization, leading to deaths, etc. It is less effective with the South African variant.

So you might get the virus and get symptoms but they should not be severe for most folks.

Wife got her second Moderna shot yesterday.

I'm sure that's welcome news.

First shot felt like she got a mule kick to the shoulder starting the day after the shot that lasted for three days.

Second shot produced the mule kick after a couple hours. Then came a fever, cold chills and sweats, upset tummy, vomiting, and the mother of all headaches.

How is she doing now ?

Better I hope.

She won't be getting the booster shot they are talking about for the Moderna vaccine.

Perhaps the J and J vaccine might be more well tolerated by her ?

I understand it is quite a bit different than the Pfizer or Moderna.
