Lol, more or less fallout from battling with my credit card companies the night before.

22° and still windy.

23 outside this AM. Awesome sun rise. Awesome moon set. Nice fresh air too. I hear snow is in the forecast.

Maybe a grocery run today, never got around to it yesterday.

What is cash? I have not seen cash in a long, long while. Coins...even longer. Use to have a coin jar....sits empty. Between the girls and wife, another reason why I don't have cash. LOL.

I honestly cannot remember the last time I used cash or coin. Wow... Checks.... heck, I cannot even write any more. The only thing I am good at is scribbling my signature. ROTFL.

Hope all have a great day, a better weekend. Have FUN with the coming snow. Be safe and stay healthy my friends.

Thanks to all for the birthday wishes and well wishes for my little problem yesterday. I just felt bad all day yesterday; nothing serious, no severe pains, etc., but just felt bad. My arm where I got the shot was very sore, I even went and looked at the house thermostat twice because I felt cold, but it had not changed. And my wife didn't have the same problems. Maybe it was because I spent so much time outside, and in and out a lot, the afternoon as I got the shot.

Anyway, I did something I can't even remember ever doing in the past. I went to bed yesterday afternoon a little before 3:30 p.m. and except for a couple of bathroom trips, didn't get out of bed until 5:30 a.m. this morning. And I do believe I've recovered.

I used cash for my McDonald’s fix yesterday, and wrote a few checks yesterday. Even deposited a check yesterday with my phone app. I still write a good bit of checks for bills.

My car payment was late also, they send the coupon each month and it came late.

Good Morning
It’s 19 and not a cloud in the sky. Forecast high is 25 with clear skies and continued wind.

Yesterday I’d quite a bit of cleanup and maintenance in the shop.got around to tasks like changing the disc on the stationary belt sander, the blade on the horizontal band saw that took a licking cutting up a cast iron bar for son’s engineering project.
Ran some errands and started on the crossover for the speaker.

Drew, I’m quite familiar with Sweetwater, they are one of the best mail order vendors of musical equipment to deal with. I’ve actually been to their headquarters / store in Ft. Wayne while killing time on a trip. It’s an amazing place with a great restaurant, a gym, you could even get you hair cut there. There is also a world class performance space and recording studio and a huge selection of gear and generally knowledgeable sales people. And to top it off the owner, Chuck Surack is also a car collector. His first mobile studio in a VW bus that has been pristinely restored is displayed in the lobby.

The flaw in the electric log splitter theory is that it’s gonna be tough to find a 10hp motor that isn’t 3 phase, and it’s likely going to take a 15K or larger generator to start a even a 5hp single phase motor. Check out the motor starting specs for generators, many companies don’t list them for obvious reasons. Here’s a link to a spec sheet for a 12kw model that says it can start a 3.5 hp code G motor. Keep in mind that a “G” is a pretty high quality motor, and will require less current to start than a typical “L” which takes almost twice the kw per hp. (5.9 vs 9.5)

https://www.wincogen.com/wp-content/uploads/PD/Spec_Sheets/Portables/SP-239_WL12000HE-03B.pdf

Today I’m off to BJ’s with the wife to get some groceries and restock supplies. I’m going to cook steaks for a birthday dinner for oldest son. I hope to get back into the shop and keep the momentum going.

Other than an email telling me not to call them, no word from the county about vaccination.

Good Morning!!!! 41F @ 4:45AM. Rain showers this morning with mostly cloudy conditions during the afternoon hours. High 52F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40%.
Picked up another 3/4" of rain yesterday, and it's raining right now. Tomorrow looks dry, with more rain for Sunday into next week. We haven't seen the mud flows that Monterey County has gotten because David's atmospheric river is aimed farther south for the time being. Hope it stays that way. A lot of snow hype and drama circulated prior to the last storm, but thankfully snow levels didn't dip as far down as predicted. Still the usual mayhem on the mountain passes, though, as people refuse to deal with Mother Nature's whims.

I'm with you, Ron, no haircuts until I'm a few weeks past the last vaccine dose. In fact, I might just let it grow. I had a ponytail down my back all through college, and chopped it off when I started interviewing for a corporate job. Now that I'm retired, maybe it's time to go back to my roots. Gonna have to do something about that bald spot, though, so I ordered some Rogain yesterday to see if it'll work.

Word came in from France this morning that the wire transfer that was started last week finally cleared. First the bank on this end stopped it for security reasons, then the bank on the other end couldn't find the vendor's account to make the deposit. A lot of screwing around for three small ball bearings.

Now trying to make the homeowner's insurance payment via credit card, and for some reason there's a run around this year on that, too. Seemed to work fine when I checked for 2019 and 2020, except that the 2021 premium is almost double what it was back in '19.

Still working on the PG&E bankruptcy claim, and have uploaded lots of photos showing the fire damage on the property. Yesterday I found a video I made showing the spectacular wildflower bloom from April of '18 that also had good coverage of the landscaping and the big firewood pile that were lost. Makes for a good "before" part of the story. Overdubbed some narration explaining what was planted and why, and pointing out the large amount of brush underneath the PG&E power lines that run up from the lake across unmaintained state property. The video is slow uploading, so the link won't be good for another hour or so.

Cooked those kidney beans all day, but they were still too hard by dinner time. Thirty minutes on pressure cook in the Instant Pot fixed that, and they were delicious! Here's the recipe I based my batch on, with a few changes because I didn't have fresh ingredients on hand. I also gave 'em a healthy dose of Liquid Smoke, and the whole house smells wonderful as a result.

Not much planned for today, other than move a fresh pallet of firewood into the garage if it stops raining long enough. And keep the wood stove stoked and toasty.

TGIF gang!:drink:

Good recovery Bird!!!

I just read from a FB friend of their Dr friend who is in ICU after getting the vaccine.

all a matter of timing, may be from what they had unknowingly already when they got the vaccine.

Everything has risk, I see a lot more risk in not getting vaccinated. I hope the good doctor gets well soon.

off to feed the birds, looks like they cleaned me out again

blue sky, windy and very cold

Good morning all, 17 going up to 26, windy, sounds like a train and the trees are smacking into each other - loud clacks all night and this morning.
I'm sure I'll find some more branches down this morning if not whole trees.
Wife got her Covid test yesterday and she is negative, so all good there. She is back at work today for a few hours.

Did not get to put planters out yesterday, worked late. Feels so cold with the wind.

Haircut appointment this afternoon - When I got the haircuts on base they were around $2 if I remember correctly.

I have one bank that I can only pay by check. I have asked over and over for the capability to wire funds to no avail, and no on line payments unless I open a bank account with them...

Alien - hope the shot helps with your hand numbness.
Ron - squirrel looks very happy - have black and grey here. Lots of grey-they like to hang out at the top of the curvy hill road- Vultures always up there to clean up :eek:Have to play dodge squirrel
Bird-glad you're feeling better- need to extend your birthday celebration

Some of my seeds arrived. Time to get them going in the basement window.

Stay safe and be well all.

Good morning! 30˚F heading to the mid 60s, lots of sun no wind. After finishing my taxes yesterday two new things to report. 1. if you take the standard deduction you can still deduct up to $300 for charitable giving (new for 2020).
2. Both stimulus are not taxable.

Looks like I'm going to have to hunt for that second vaccination. They no longer are giving it where my appointment was suppose to be, and of course trying to get info on the phone is impossible with 136,156 people still on the waiting list trying to get their appointment to get the first shot.

Made a dump run. Pushed the garbage can with built in wheels to the curb. brrrr.

Another day next week working on the new overlook in the park and it will be ready for a pic.

You guys up North stay warm.

16°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 39° today.

The boy was there when I got home from work yesterday evening. He's been sticking around for dinner this week. The garage mess still hasn't been cleaned up. Looks like I'll have to do it myself this weekend ... again. (sigh)

Wife noted that the internet was working faster yesterday. I checked it when I got home. We were previously getting 1-3 Mbps download speed, and are now getting 15-17 Mbps. She said she hasn't called them yet to find out what the problem was, so I reminded her to note that we've been paying them for many years for a service they did not provide. And, since the problem was obviously on their end (likely a throttle-down setting), we've been overpaying for the service. For years. She didn't seem real comfortable with that idea, so I'm probably going to have to call them myself.

Drew, as Paul noted, Sweetwater is one of the big players in the catalog/mail order/online music equipment retail industry. Probably second only to the Guitar Center / Musician's Friend conglomerate. Better than them, though, because they have the undisputed best customer service in the industry. AND ... every order ships with a handful of candy tossed in the box. When St Louis Music was closing their manufacturing operations in St. Louis back in '03, I got a letter from Sweetwater asking if I'd be interested in coming to work for them. It was very tempting. The only thing that steered me away was my knowledge of winters in Ft. Wayne. My younger sister lived there for a few years, and I already knew I had no interest in living there. Great town, just too cold for me.
The speaker cabinets they sell are no competition for the kind of stuff Paul makes. Everything they sell is mass produced assembly line stuff. Nothing wrong with it from a general user point of view, but nowhere near the quality of stuff built to order or in small batches by someone who's doing it for more than just a paycheck.

24 degrees now. 20 mph NW wind. Today will test my resolve to walk every morning. Some kind of winter event coming this weekend.

Have you been following the How's Eddie thread? Scary! Hope all those folks have a full recovery.

Morning all!
Currently 7 above with heavy winds! Looks like a possible storm again early next week.
Driveway is getting filled in with drifts. Not going out till Monday if I can help it.
Decided to make cookies ( 4 dozen oatmeal raisin)and feed the pellet stove today.
Made another string project also. Finished up a cedar blanket rack for my sister in law that she wanted. Did a test fit.
Conserving energy till needed.
Wife is gone to work for a few hours. Should be back early. Hopefully we can do something together.
Hope everyone enjoys the weekend!

Well morning all;
It's warming right up today all the way up to 5F now.
Been a puttery day so far, refrigerator got delivered yesterday.
Meet them down at the road loaded it in the pickup brought it up to the house,
then around to the deck and in through the big sliding door then into the kitchen.
I had put down ice melt and sand along the outside walkway because the eves drip on it
to take care of the ice the floors sure show it mud and grit all over.
ran the vacuum over it guess I need to damp mop the hard wood.
Need to go outside and fill the two suet feeders I see they are empty.

63°F and .04 inches rain. Something of a pause in the rain.

Somewhat unexpected the cottage hot water heater was user unfriendly yesterday. Replaced it. Of course even though it was the manufacturer replacement was not a drop in swap. Ended up taking almost 2 1/2 hours as I had to keep looking for fittings and had to reposition. Got it done but the electrical connection needs to be properly redone and don’t have those parts on hand.

3.5 hour Zoom class on Little Fire Ants this morning. Seems a bit long, but hopefully will be time well spent.

Not making plans beyond that

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

I hadn't followed either thread. I've always liked Eddie's contributions to this site. Seems like a great guy. Glad he and his wife are doing better.
