Lou, did you ever try siping your tires for snow work? You must get more snow than any of us.
No need to sipe with chains, and likely nothing works better than chains, including going into the woods.

Chains sure will scratch up pavement though. Are your farm roads gravel?
turf, hybrid, R4, R1 lot of options, wonder which works the best? Probably tracks...but not including them,
if you wanted the best possible snow traction, which tire would you choose? Probably well discussed in the Transportation
threads... We need a comparison test; I've seen the ones on dirt/turf but not snow.

I have had sipped tires on a couple of pickups they did work better but not as good as studded tires.
As far as chains I went with the studded Euro style several years back and there is no comparison,
they re a 10 fold increase in traction and have a very good ride quality. I don't see any pavement damage to speak off
from my chains or the tractors when they are chained up at the farm. With the Euro style the traction is good enough
that you are seldom spinning and chewing with them which is when they would mark up the pavement.
All of our driveways and farm roads are gravel, most of the town roads are paved now that we drive on.
When I take my tractor over to the farm it's on pavement for about 3 and 1/2 miles each way. The feed lot tractors
run almost 2 miles on pavement daily when chained for the feed lot fields. The Euro style seem to hold up to the road travel
better then ladder chains as well as riding good, we will run about 15 mph with chains on.
My self I have to have chains on my snow removal equipment because of the steepness of my driveway, 14-16 degrees of
slope (about 25%) it's easy to plow down without them but difficult to get back up without them.
In my opinion the best snow tires for tractors would likely be the hybrid or the turf patterns, I'm running R1's as they are not worn out.
My backup tractor is on almost worn out R1's but with the chains is doesn't matter.
I have never been impressed with tracks for snow and ice work on equipment, without ice caulks they are about like ice skates.

I used to scratch up the main road a bit when I plowed as a kid, could only see it when everything melted.

Seems like a lot of passenger/truck tire technology for snow tires could apply to tractors also.
Probably already does, like in radial tractor tires.

I think pressuring down our tractor tires in winter a few pounds might help too.
And always run 4wd if you can if there's any slippery stuff on the ground/roads.
Not just for pulling grip but for stopping. Learned that here.

BIL, a teacher, has been sick two weeks with covid symptoms, but test are negative.

Buckeye hope you were not exposed.

They were still giving out vaccinations all day at our hub. FamilyHospitalSystems had 3 hubs in the county and gave out 6000 doses in three days. At our hub the police were standing by outside and you could only get in by appointment.

Rick is that at the Methodist Hospital in TMC, I saw they got a large shipment delivered.

Hays County, 2 counties away, received 2,000 doses today and open up the portal to sign up at 1:30 p.m., within 15 minutes all appointment slots were full.

In about 3 weeks half of the doses will go for the booster and the availability will be cut in half. I did read that in extreme cases CDC allows either vaccine to be used and given within 28 days to 6 weeks of the original vaccine.

Best tire I've used on snow were turfs...good tread pattern. Probably not good on ice though.
Nokian makes a snow tire for tractors...and Deere actually has a model (IIRC, it's a modified 4066R) designed for plowing snow that comes with Nokian snow tires. A very expensive option though

I’ve run 4WD/AWD on trucks, cars and tractors for over 40 years, I’ve never seen any difference in stopping ability, if anything it got me over confident when I was young.

Good morning! All of 1 degree warmer than raw this morning, it is 16. The advantage of living further south. :laughing: Allegedly going to 28 today. Sunday night thru Tuesday still looks to be a mess.

I had one in my old trailer along with a power strip with a 15A breaker. Very basic shore power for a trailer or van. I am still deciding on whether this will go thru the wall as a permanent shore power or go 30A inlet. For the temporary inlet, removed one of the D-rings from the floor, made a cover for the hole, and installed the power inlet into the cover. Then bolted the assembly to the floor. Add a power strip with a breaker, and I have power in the trailer so I can work inside, charge the battery for the lights (12V), etc.

My dad and stepmom are getting their vaccinations this morning.

Getting some free firewood this afternoon. That is good since I didn稚 get all of my wood split before I got sick. The crappy HF trailer has a full load (okay, overload) sitting on it needing split. At least I covered it with a tarp. Crappy HF trailer is actually a compliment, I have abused that trailer since I bought it about 8 years ago for $100.

Not sure what else I will get into today......

I ran 2WD for years on most things. That 兎ventually taught me to slow down. Took a while, but I did learn. :laughing:

My last 3 trucks have been 4WD. By driving sensibly in snow and ice, I can tell a definite difference in braking with 4WD versus 2WD. The 4WD is much more predictable to me when braking.

And without question, make getting up some of the hills around here possible in poor traction conditions.

my understanding was that a tractor engaging 4wd allowed a lot more control over the front wheels during braking
than you normally get on a 2wd model since there are no brakes on the front of a 2wd tractor.
Will look up those Nokian tractor snow tires. Makes a lot of sense for Canada, Colorado and New England.
With snow in forecast for this coming week, hardware store will be busy with ice melt.
Have been going through birdseed pretty well but have enough for another week.

am really going to have to powerwash that wood picnic bench in the Spring, makes a great feeding station.

Of course if you thought you'd be keeping this tractor a long time, and
you lived in the snow belt, starts becoming a sensible accessory.

No Covid shots here. One site said they were backlogged 14,000 people and local hospitals still have not been able to finish vaccinating first responders yet.
PA is not doing well so far, hope it gets better.

I thanked the people doing the COVID testing , standing out in the cold wind. They do have heat in the drive thru tent where they do the swab, but still not the best place to work. I think it was too early to get tested, but I did.

I searched for respirators from all. I'm still seeing them. 3M N95 dust masks and respirator cartridges. Unless I am missing something.

Yeah...pretty expensive...plus the wheels since they don't fit on the standard wheel used for R3 turf tires.
I saw these on a YouTube video about Deere tractors used for clearing roads..

Even has a place for a license plate

Since I'm not going to be plowing any roads except the occasional clearing of the lane (cul-de-sac) we live on, I don't think I need to invest in those Nokian tires...

Windchill today been brrrrr.. 2F-8F mostly even colder for tonight.

Critter feeding area scrape and clean,driveway etc. clean of snow,$80 critter food stack and ready, rest of the day recliner dinner good movie.

Mention to Mrs. today National Pie Day and I like blueberry or apple with hint hint,yet to see any action in the kitchen. :scratchchin:
