Good morning to all! Cold here, but no precipitation forecasted. Low was 17, high will be around 35. Wind chill is at -1. Supposed to get windy again, 25 mph, gusts to 40. That big storm heading up the East coast is sucking all the air with it! :confused3:

All you guys in the path of that storm, try to stay warm and out of harms way....

RS, hope you don't have too much difficulty getting the valves replaced.... I don't envy your project at all.... just because it involves plumbing... I hate plumbing!

Wng, glad Coco is ok... hopefully a smooth transition to the new meds. :thumbsup:

I had some good shop time yesterday, both toy boxes were completely assembled, and then disassembled, ready for the finish. That will start getting done today, a 3 step process....pics will follow....

Hopefully, I will get a start on my older grandsons 'chalet box'. It won't be anywhere near as difficult as the toy boxes, but will have more details. Initially, I thought about doing some inlays, but don't have the time. Maybe for a future one if he wants another.

Good Morning. 23 here today with a forecast high of 30. Snow is supposed to start after lunch and continue until tomorrow morning.

Didn’t do much yesterday other than hammer in the driveway markers. Tractor is backed into the shop, full of fuel and 8 foot blade with urethane cutting edge ready for its first winter.

Nothing planned for today other than wait for snow. Good day to fill the house with the aroma of some slow cooking comfort food. Not sure what it will be, but sounds like a good plan. Maybe even a loaf of bread in the Hitachi to add to atmosphere.

Might even head over to the shop and start up the mining operation again.

And I’m with Drew on the vaccinations. My wife and daughter are both nurses and are already scheduled.

It doesn't bother me to get it, I'm done having kids. My biggest concern with it being gene therapy is how it will effect the generations that haven't been born yet.

Is there gonna be a greater chance for birth defects, learning defects, ect......

Who remembers the ads in the back of Popular Science for fireworks supplies? I used to get regular shipments from 撤yro Hobby Center? And my parents would write the check for me to mail. I might have been 鍍hat guy?

Me too, but it was a company called CaseCo in the back of Popular Mechanics. They sold cardboard tubes cut to convenient size, and end plugs, and also waterproof fuse. The catalog had all the recipes for fire crackers, M80s, rocket fuel, and stars. We had to go to another company for the chemicals: Potassium Perchlorate, surfer, and aluminum powder if I recall correctly. Mom had to sign the order form, which was for aluminum foil, bees wax, and other stupid stuff, which would then get erased and the good stuff substituted. Never blew a hole in the roof, but did put a 10' hole in the ice one winter. Those 4" thick blocks went a good 50 feet in the air, and the ice fractured with both radial and concentric evenly spaced cracks.

I've never gotten a flu shot, and have no plans to get this one either.

I did get a flu shot...years ago...never again. Not going to get this vaccine either...

As I’ve said before, my late wife was an infectious disease specialist. I learned a lot from her and simple reading. One thing is that it is physically impossible to get the flu from the flu shot, it’s small particles of a killed virus and cannot replicate. You can have symptoms similar to the flu for a day or so caused by your body’s immune system reaction. And if you were unlucky enough to have been exposed just before or after getting the shot, then it won’t keep you from getting sick. The old nasal spray vaccine could and did cause flu in some, it was a weakened virus, not killed, that’s why they stopped using it.

I see these new vaccines as being overwhelmingly safe and effective, nothing is 100%, but I will get it ASAP.

When I went to brewery on Sat I got a brand new beer (ale), a seasonal special. Sample was very good. I was the 1st to buy a keg. Not so good back here at home. Cloudy with lot of sediment. Talked with Brewmaster and he admitted they also have seen some problems so please bring it back for exchange.

Got a call from a forester that was hired by PG&E to trim under the lines; he'll be here today.

It wasn't supposed to rain yesterday, but it did anyway. Neighbor came over to help with the unloading, but I wasn't quite ready and he took off to do a quick job that turned out to be an all day folly. A low tire on his backhoe caused the bead to roll off the rim, and he had to pull the wheel off and use starting fluid to get it to reseat. So we're gonna take another stab at the unloading this morning, using the little tractor to slide the safe far enough out of the bed so the big tractor can get forks into the pallet from the side and lift it. Then drive the pickup forward before moving to a sliding door. Then use eye bolts on the safe top to set it upright, then back on the forks for the trip through the door. Once inside, we'll use the dollies with the hydraulic lifts to roll it into position, and the new hammer drill to set the anchors in the concrete. Hoping for a smooth trip...

Front porch lights are supposed to be motion activated, but have never really worked right. So yesterday I took one apart and cut the motion sensor out of the circuit. That worked fine, so did another three. All of them are on HomeKit compatible wall switches, but for some reason the HomeKit motion sensor on the porch isn't working, either. So that's on the todo list now.:confused2:

Had the batteries for the Makita chain saw on the charger for a day, so decided to try it out. Found a fire killed oak with about a 10" trunk and was able to get it down without too much drama. The size and weight of the Makita are about the same as a Stihl 191T that is my usual go to saw. But the Makita doesn't have the same power, but maybe 2/3 of it. It was very easy to stall, but also easy to get going again. But next time I need to get a tree down, I'll probably reach for one of the bigger Stihls. Once it's on the ground, though, that Makita will make a willing accomplice.

Unpacked the new propane furnace and it seems to have survived the trip just fine. Now need to get a regulator and order the optional fan for it.

Guess the third time wasn't the charm, MFW? Glad you're movin' on with your life, and things are lookin' better all the time.

Maybe think about putting in a game camera overlooking the genny, too, Drew. That way if it does get swiped you might get a photo or three of who did it. If they don't steal the game camera, too.

There's a meme on Facebook criticizing the decision to vaccinate healthcare workers in the first wave, suggesting politicians would be more suitable guinea pigs since they would be easier to do without in case something turns out to be wrong with the vaccine. :laughing: I'll take the jab as soon as it's offered, but if the chicken pox vaccine is any indication, I'll be lucky to get it by this time next year.

BTW, there's a world of difference between giving pregnant women Thalidomide and using genetically altered agents to stimulate the body's immune response. And thank goodness it's still a free country and we can all make our own decisions about the safety of the new therapy.

There was a huge surge of over 600 new CV19 cases over this past weekend here. We're already on the strictest lock down orders, so not sure what else can be done. But I'm staying home as much as I can, and taking all the precautions when I have to go out.

It was 25 last night, 49 now, rain is getting closer.
I’m glad we’re not getting the snow.
I had the police out yesterday and filed a claim today, now I sit back and see what happens.
I have to go to a cardiac specialist tomorrow to see if there is a regimen better than the Amiodarone for my Afib, have no real problems with Afib since I started taking it, but it’s some harsh stuff. It makes my hands shaky among other things.
I made a pot of vegetable beef soup yesterday, going to have some more for lunch, good stuff in colder weather.
The sprinkles have forced me inside before the heavy stuff gets here.

Furnace is running with a work around for Flame Sensor. Replacement sensor should be here this afternoon. Unusual fault to service guy. Saying flame is present when none is present. Does not work on American Standard (Trane) very often.

When I was younger we had some loggers up the road. They lent us a stick of dynamite! We used it to blow up an abandoned hut. Lit the fuse, get on motorcycle (1 for the two of us).
Quick fuse found both of us on the ground next to the still running bike, no hut and luckily we were only knocked off the bike by concussion and not by wood schrapnel.
Not like in the movies for sure.

Went for a hike earlier...when I came in to take my jacket off, the rain had frozen on it. No snow, just freezing rain and the pines are drooping. Snow would be much better.

30F and light snow @ 13:00, about an inch on the ground thus far. Calling for 1 - 3 inches ... looks like we are close to the trailing edge at this point, so this could be about it as far as snowfall goes.

Checked square on tile saw blade to table ... looks good ... still need to check laser alignment.

Need to call Road Department today and tell them to skip plowing the unpaved portion of the driveway.

Possibly refill feeders. Probably should get that birdbath plugged in too, while I'm out there ...

Need to go to Menards for closet repair flange, a 4 x 8 sheet of 3/4 plywood, and few other things but I don't see that happening today ... unless I get more motivated.

Other than that, see about freeing up that one supply valve ... probably check the supply valves for the tub and toilet in the main bathroom while I'm at it. Still need to locate the supply valves for the sinks in the main bathroom ... not sure exactly where they are ... or if there even are any ... :confused3:

UPS says bullnose tile out of Mesquite, TX due in tomorrow. Black accent tile has arrived at local Home Depot ... but not showing ready for pickup yet.

Do the English eat their horses ?

Don't think that is illegal, however I can't imagine any slaughter house would accept a horse even if it did have all the traceability paperwork to show what drugs it had been given over it's lifetime.

A lot of people in the UK have inadvertently tasted horse meat. A few years ago the the food standards agency were carrying out routine tests on some beef burgers and discovered they were actually 100% horse. It lead to a huge investigation where it was found in many cheaper ready made meals imported from Europe, beef lasagne was actually horse lasagne.

David, our tv vaccination coverage is mostly the opposite, maybe yours will turn out more positive too as more get vaccinated. For example, one of the most watched programs on our tv is "The Great British Bake Off" (No horsemeat - or stodgy food - allowed). The senior judge, Pru leith, is 80 and has just been shown smiling while she stood in line waiting to receive her jab and then afterwards saying it was painless.

I think there was an uptick in horsemeat consumption due to Mad Cow disease in the 90’s ? I know wife and I are on the ineligibility list for donating blood due to living in Germany.

I don’t think our news coverage is purposely biased, in fact great coverage last night about one of the major hospitals saying 70% of staff favor vaccination. But most segments also include a naysayer who goes unchallenged.

Most of them here have white/green deposits on the outside. The one that I could turn has a slight drip coming from it ... to the point that I set an empty Cool Whip container underneath it ... 15 years ago ...

Nice lady on YouTube says soaking them in vinegar works well ... that will probably be what I try. Need to snag one of those brass brushes from up in the shop.
