Ron, hope your heater gets fixed today.
Roy, sounds like a day to stay home.
Once I get back from my errands this morning, that's what I'm doing.
Going to pick up driveway markers for snow plow this morning, visit with MIL and then
home before the snow starts after lunch. Still about a foot predicted for here.

neighbor took a picture at dusk last night, colors are very pretty.

need to call car wash and reschedule detail for tomorrow. That sure isn't going to happen.

27 outside this AM. Heading to upper 30's. Nothing on the weather .....yet.

Ran around town yesterday. Not much planned today, except feed the fireplace.

I recall in my youth, walking down to the local pharmacy and buying all sorts of chemicals. I also recall a friend of mine blowing a hole in his parents house roof, that shook the neighborhood. I bet we all had one of those friends. Heck, some of us probably were "that guy".

Hope all have a great day. Be safe, especially with the weather conditions, and stay healthy my friends.

I used potassium nitrate (salt peter) for rotting stumps. That is my story and I am sticking to it.

For starters, what's the statute of limitations on playing with firecrackers inserted into an old upholstered chair dumped in the woods behind our neighborhood and when they blew, the chair burst into flames with a huge plume of black smoke that ended with the fire department getting some practice? If the statute hasn't expired, it never happened.

And you could drive to school with a gun in the gun rack of your vehicle.

One could skid school first day of deer season and it wasn't black mark against you.

The senior judge, Pru leith, is 80 and has just been shown smiling while she stood in line waiting to receive her jab and then afterwards saying it was painless.

And Pink Floyd said:
“It’s just a little pin prick. you might feel a little sick”

32 going to 37, and the weatherman has stolen our snow forecast :( and left us with another inch of rain and freezing rain/mix. Yes, Mostly, we've had a record rainfall year since I've kept records, and I believe at the official airport NWS weather station it is shaping up to be the 4th rainiest year ever, depending on how much today/rest of the year.

RNG, enjoyed reading about your trip...but an especially long one with challenging traffic. Thanks for sharing more info on the endosnake.

Rip, you porch is looking good.

Eric, it would be fun to stop by your place on a Thursday for some meat and potato pie and tea...I'd bring some apple logs for your stove from our old dead apple tree.

Coco is improving, got a change to her several medicines, trying to get her off prednisone, and the vet wants her to take CBD oil...I've no knowledge about it, but will order from a WA company called Canna Companion specializing in dog and cats. Waiting for my 20% senior discount to get approved because the stuff's not cheap.

Got some outdoor chores done, trying to beat the rain/mix but my flashlight batteries died, so got a few more.

Our health department is having a town hall, televised statewide tonight...will be explaining the vaccines and process. As many things about government as can be criticized, it is almost miraculous that Operation Warp Speed compressed the time it usually takes to get a vaccine through the hoops and to injections to less than one year.

Who remembers the ads in the back of Popular Science for fireworks supplies? I used to get regular shipments from “Pyro Hobby Center”. And my parents would write the check for me to mail. I might have been “that guy”.

Our school was closed the first day of deer season.

well since the vaccine is using gene therapy of some kind, if it malfunctions and we slowly start turning into a vampire
or a six headed slimy lizard from a far galaxy, I guess anything is possible. ;)
Medical folks have been battling flu and infectious diseases a long time. They are apparently using the latest and best technology here
to force our body to kill off the virus. And if there are side effects of that process, Bill has every reason to be skeptical. Pretty sure the stats
here are very, very good. But there is that old saying that Time Will Tell.

My hand is sure raised up.
I want to get back to dinner parties and hugs and cruises to the islands.

Good Morning. 23 here today with a forecast high of 30. Snow is supposed to start after lunch and continue until tomorrow morning.

Didn’t do much yesterday other than hammer in the driveway markers. Tractor is backed into the shop, full of fuel and 8 foot blade with urethane cutting edge ready for its first winter.

Nothing planned for today other than wait for snow. Good day to fill the house with the aroma of some slow cooking comfort food. Not sure what it will be, but sounds like a good plan. Maybe even a loaf of bread in the Hitachi to add to atmosphere.

Might even head over to the shop and start up the mining operation again.

And I’m with Drew on the vaccinations. My wife and daughter are both nurses and are already scheduled.

Well said Drew. After 36 years working in the pharmaceutical industry I am well aware that mistakes do happen, however they are few and far between. The era of social media and 24 hour news coverage tends to sensationalize too much.

I will also have my hand up awaiting the shot!

Frank

My wife and I, too, will take the shots when they are available. But of course I'm so old that I'll be among the last to get them, if I live that long. So I figure by the time we're able to get the shots they will have been thoroughly vetted.

I will get the vaccine when it is available. Stage 1 in Michigan is healthcare workers. Stage 2 is compromised and over 65. You and I are in that group. Stage 3 is everybody that wants it.

I will just bet that all the deformed children now adults will not agree with that. Thalidomide was invented by the Germans to offset morning sickness in pregnant women. To the best of my knowledge, the U.S. FDA never bought into the deal and didn't approve it.
That is my only reasoning for not jumping at the poke when it first comes out. All you millions that get the shot will be the guinea pigs, but not me.

Good morning! Clear skies 32˚F. We are having a delayed start in the park this morning while it warms up above freezing. The wind is light so it is a go.

Our covid numbers were up to the 300s new cases a day in the county and then since Thanksgiving have dropped in the 200s. Yesterday after a weekend I noticed we are back in the 300s. Not the big spike they were expecting. Austin hospital beds are filling up and their medical director is warning that beds might not be available and covid patients might be told to recover at home (primer for a big lockdown).

Germany is under a big lockdown till January 10. My 5th cousin who lives in Germany and came over to get married on our farm now has covid. He is recovering and should be out of quarantine before Christmas.

In Texas Vaccinations distribution Phase 1a is health care workers and nursing home residents. Phase 1b included those over 65 in September but the December update put essential workers in 1b and over 65 in 1c. Teachers have jumped up to a 1b.
Pilots will have to wait 48 hours after the vaccination before they are allowed to fly.

28°F and light snow this morning, going up to 36° today. Not our first snow of the year, but the first one to stick. It won't last through the day, though.

20201216 First Snow.JPG

Wife got a nice surprise for her birthday yesterday. Her oldest son came home from Texas a few days earlier than planned to surprise her. They spent the day together, and even took a 4 mile hike. They were watching the movie Dunkirk when I got home (late) from work.

I was that kid in the neighborhood who was always willing to try the dangerous stuff. Lots of scrapes and cuts cleaned up by Dr. Mom, but never blew anything up that caused damage to myself or property ... well, except for the time I prematurely picked up a firecracker I thought was a dud. It wasn't a dud, but rather just a slow fuse. My right hand was numb for about a week, but no permanent damage. Never did that again.

I've never gotten a flu shot, and have no plans to get this one either.
