Had to take Coco to the emergency vet last night,
rip - saw that the National Museum or the US Army opened yesterday up your way (Ft Belvoir)...the article in the WSJ I read said it is one of the 3 top military museums (one of the others is the Natl Mus. of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, Don).

Good morning! 51˚Cloudy heading to the 80s.

Wngsprd hope Coco is doing better today. I went to the gift shop at the museum but did not have enough time to go to the museum in Fredericksburg on the last trip there. We went with the neighbors on a bus to see a play in town. Sounds like a good idea for a day trip once this covid settles down. We have slipped from the green zone past the yellow zone now in the orange zone with increased cases. My wife got her hair cut yesterday just in case things shut down again. Her hair dresser lost her Mother and Uncle to covid - they both lived in New York.

Rip glad your daughter was rescued. I can relate to her experience about driving in the dark with high water. In the country we had a surprise road that would flood 24 hours after it rained and it was on a curve and in the dark you could not turn around because you could not see the road. I drove to town on the road no water but on the way back (the 24 after rain rising creek water came) and I was in a Prius. Good thing a big truck was in front of me to push the water away. A couple months later a lady drowned when she did the same thing 24 hours after the rain.

The Park cedarcide went well yesterday. We cleared out hundreds of cedars, now the county needs to come out and chip or haul so the lookout view will be visible - we make 3 piles the size of 18 wheelers (but only about 6 feet high.).

Time to make the sourdough cinnamon rolls.

Good morning
56 and overcast with rain on and off forecast through this afternoon. .82 inches since yesterday.

My mining operation yielded measurable progress, but has made the scope of the project painfully clear. It’s going to be a few days before anyone but me would notice the improvement. Its interesting that about a third of what I’m unearthing is going straight into the trash. Other stuff is going to where it belongs, even if I have to make a spot for it or fix it first. And of course, I swear that I will never let it get to this point again.....

Today my cleanup might get interrupted by helping my oldest son with a wood working project. I gave him an old barometer that I got from the tower of a closed airport, he wants to make a mount to put it on his office wall. Adjustments.jpg
The background should give an idea of the state of my horizontal surfaces.

Youngest daughter had to be water rescued about two miles from the house.

Rip, maybe she needs a jeep with a snorkle. You can drive them through pretty deep water. I have seen youtube videos where they have rigged jeeps to drive completely underwater. I wouldn't be surprised if we continue to see a lot of flooding.

Makes me want to learn more about plumbing...

When I think about some of the guys who claim to be plumbers I ask myself how hard can it be? And it seems like they are constantly inventing new ways to make it easier.

Vacationing in New Mexico. Got to talking to a local at a shop about 40 miles from where we are staying. He said if you wanted to see some elk, hit the local elementary school soccer fields at sunrise.

He wasn't lying

Dftodd, Welcome to NM! Looks like either Ruidoso, Cloudcroft, or Taos. Am I close? (Even though those places are far apart). Nice places... if I had to guess, I would say Taos. Enjoy your stay!

Chris

I was always told that if you remembered that poop flows down hill, don’t chew your fingernails and don’t deposit cash, you were ready to go.....

Ruidoso. Vacation started out a little rough though. We got 3/10 of a mile from our Airbnb Saturday, and my wifes jeep through a rod. Was gonna be $7k for a new motor, so we ended up buying a new car Monday. Stress level dropped once we were mobile again.

Went up the mountain by Ski Apache. Saw a sign for a look out. And decided to explore. Was beautiful, but the high elevation kicked our flat lander butts

Good morning to all! Low of 25, high of 52 expected. No precipitation in the forecast.... not that it would mean anything, they forecasted the snow / rain for this past weekend. Made a big deal about it happening.... never materialized....

I did get one day of peace out in the shop, started assembling the entry bench. Just a few more pieces to assemble then ready for stain. Not sure if I will get out there today, the chaos / disruption is starting again this morning. ..... we were supposed to be settled down into a peaceful, quiet lifestyle....

Rip, sorry to hear about the car, but your daughter is ok... that's the important thing!

Drew, sounds like you're going to have a nice little workshop set up! I used to get my lumber from Bateman Lumber in New Britain. Big selection of different woods. You are probably closer to Tinsman Bros. in Lumberville though.

Hope everyone's day goes as they planned ... I have get moving....

thanks for posting pics DFTodd, fun to look at. Throwing a rod on vacation is a big ouch.

small lumber delivery made, cedar on top, white pine in middle and fir on bottom, bottom piece will be attached to ceiling studs to mount
a garage door opener, wanted something sturdy to glue and screw into studs.
Driver brought wood back to garage and stacked it for me, very nice.
I have ordered another set of wood hangars to extend what I have, will get rid of droop on 8-12 footers.

Yes, you have to be careful with the elevation and dryness! Dehydration and elevation sickness happens quite frequently. Working EMS, we had to deal with it frequently, mostly people on vacation rushing to take in all the sites. Nice pics. That was where the fire went through a few years back.

Sorry to hear about the Jeep... let me guess... the 4.0 liter ?

Have fun! There are a lot of great things to see!

3.6??? We had the option of a remanned engine. But after this one tanking at 156k miles I lost all faith in them. Wife got a loaded Buick Encore. Gonna take us a month or so to figure out all the bells and whistles. 2020's had lots of incentives and rebates.

I've dealt with the elevation fairly often while working in Colorado and Utah. Dropped my first time in Colorado. So I was expecting issues here and warned my wife to drink quite a bit and take it slow. Saturday we were checking out the shops and encountered a decent hill coming back. Had to stop half way up to let the heart slow down. It was a pretty good blow to the ego to have an old man out power walking cruise on past us.

Riptides, sorry to hear about your daughter.

We had our highest one-day rainfall total ever...6.47 inches as of 7am...and still raining.

Pop, awesome barometer.

Dftodd, beautiful dog, and neat seeing the elk.

Coco is okay now, lying next to my chair. Thank for asking.

32°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 61° today.

I've been trying to hook up with a guy in St. Louis County to buy a GoPro Session camera he has listed on Facebook Marketplace. We arranged to meet last Friday at 12:15 at his local police station near the STL airport. He'd sent me a message that he might be a little late, as he had to take his mother to her doctor's office. No problem, as I was a little flexible-ish. By 1pm, I decided to leave. Not that flexible. He later apologized, and I suggested we might try again this week. Contacted him yesterday morning, and agreed on same time and place. I waited until 12:30 and left. Didn't get a message from him until after I'd left. He was mad that I didn't give him a "heads up" about being on my way. I reminded him that the "heads up" was given when we agreed to meet at a specific time, and suggested he needs to stop making excuses and learn to be on time, especially when someone is rearranging their work day and driving eight miles for the meeting. He called me an @$$wipe. Whatever. About half hour later, he sent another message saying he'd give me his home address if I still wanted the camera. Told him I was not driving out there a third time, and that I'd find one somewhere else. Even after all these years, I'm still amazed at how lazy some people are ... and of course, it's always someone else's fault.

Looks like the tree service did a nice job of cleaning up our mess in the pasture, at least it looks that way from the barn. I didn't have time to walk out there when I got home last night, but I did snap a picture zoomed in from the barn. By way of comparison, the first picture is what it looked like back there when we started cleaning things up back in May. Definitely liking the progress.

We toured the National Infantry Museum at Ft. Benning when my oldest stepson graduated there in 2010. Fantastic place. We also walked through the outside portion of the museum at Ft. Hood back in '09. Lots of neat old equipment there.

Eric, I remember the bench cleaning initiative that swept though here a few years ago. My promise to keep mine clean has gone unfulfilled as well. I had to clear off a spot just last weekend to work on a damaged base for a humidifier.

Rip, my youngest stepson drove into flood waters a few years ago, too. It was a spot less than a mile from our house that he knew flooded in heavy rains, and he thought he could make it through anyway. Ruined his Honda Accord, and he had to be rescued as well. Glad your daughter wasn't hurt. Dangerous stuff.

69°F and .74 inches rain and raining. Rainy season finally here. That’s OK, no painting today.

First up, Makani to vet, last series of puppy shots.

Then I have appointment at AT&T. Getting new iPhones requires I change our plan, more money of course.

Likely a couple of errands while in town

Stop at PO on way home.

Hope to start removing the paint maskings and some cleanup.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Another hour in the proofing oven then I can bake my socks. (Using sourdough starter requires more rising time.)
