Good morning!!!!

Good Morning!!!! 62F @ 5:00AM. Sunny to partly cloudy. High 84F. Winds light and variable.
AQI 2 and 40, inside and out. Best AQI in weeks, and well correlated with the cessation of back burning by the fire crews. Still a couple of hot spots left, but they're well to the north and so far haven't been much cause for concern.
Unfortunately, Saturday evening the winds will switch, coming from the north, and when they start gusting past 35 MPH, PG&E sez they'll shut off the power again, probably for the next two days. To heck with 'em, I don't need it anymore.:D

The place is gonna end up smellin' like a French whorehouse ...

Wouldn't that be an Irish whorehouse, RS?:confused2::laughing:
I've got an extra quick attach plate laying around, and after seeing your root bucket, am thinking about making one of my own. Got any photos showing it in more detail, maybe with a tape measure in view?

EGR is required to get past the smog test, Bruce. You'd have to ask the California Air Resources Board why, as the thing is an order of magnitude cleaner than the standard, and the original VW engine as well. Like gun laws, pollution laws have many consequences that to any sane person make no sense at all.

I get irked by all the safety cutouts on the tractors, too, Ted. Especially the one in the seat that trips when I work on a steep slope, or have to stomp on the diff lock. Doing either unweights the seat and kills the ignition. I haven't disabled it because I think it would be a good thing if the tractor stopped if I happened to leave the seat unexpectedly...

That's a high price to pay for "safety", Eric.:irked:

You might get used to not mowing, blowing, and shoveling, Drew. Might even like it...
Joining a trap and skeet shooting club would be a great way to meet some nice people in your new neighborhood...

What's your secret to a good sleep, Buppies? I'm jealous!

I don't miss much about the midwest, Ron, but fresh cider's one of them.:licking:

:welcome: workinonit! That's a healthy lookin' Deere ya got there!

Found two emails from Dyson in this morning's email. One delaying shipment of the air purifier another week, another three hours later saying it had shipped.:confused2:

Installed three more security cameras yesterday. The first two were very easy, as they came with handy tabletop bases, long power cords, and WiFi. Plug 'em in and a couple mouse clicks and they were working. Put the other one out at the generator pad, and had to make up an Ethernet cable for that one, which I seem to be getting better at as it worked first try. Probably because I went to the trouble of using the little tester on it.

Not sure what I'll get into today; it's an opportunity rich environment.

TGIF gang!:drink:

Good morning all 61 going up to 79 and thick , Steven King like fog outside

Did the fire on the stump last night-will check to see if it did any damage when I get a chance

RS- I do maybe one big plant every month-will take me years to catch up to you!
Thomas - sounds like my wife-mostly trails and non-stop chatter :)
Ron - Like the colors on the squirrel - Potatoes are a mess - glad you found it though, those Fruit flys can multiply into some pretty annoying swarms
Drew-I still have 3 of my lawns cut for me and do the other 3 myself when they need it-he only charges me $40 as I am between a number of his other clients and cutting through my place saves him trying to drive on the road. I buy stuff from Tanners, havn't been to Betts-but a lot of ag people around here like them.
RNG- glad to hear the fires are more contained-hopefully the winds won;t be so bad. used to make my own thin wire-thick wire and cat 5 cables all the time-don't miss that with most of my devices on Wifi!

Welcome Workinonit - This thread has really been a great place to meet people and talk about what's going on around us.

Stay safe and be well

Good morning to all! Low of 45, up to 86 today.... as usual again, no rain. We are getting to the edge of being in "exceptional drought" conditions... the worst (and highest) rating. The forecaster reported an 'official' La Nina weather pattern, with drier and warmer than normal conditions.... I didn't think we could get drier....

Pieces/parts started arriving yesterday. The Porter Cable sander is up and running! The table saw will get disassembled again today and reassembled with hopefully the last parts and for the last time! The fuel pump for the tractor should arrive today.

Naps..... I haven't had a nap in months, probably more like a year.... well, not unless I consider night time..... that is just a series of back to back naps an hour at a time.....

A couple errands this morning, then putter in the shop.

Everyone have a great day!

Ken, that was a name from the past.... I remember going to Tanner's.... I am surprised they are still around. It has been a long time!

Ken, I'm very familiar with both Betts and Tanners. Bought a new 16G Gravely garden tractor from Betts many years ago. Tanners was my closest dealer when I lived in Holland.
Neither I'm quite sure sell garden tractors, they all have gone to zero turns which I can't drive due to grip problems. If I can I will buy from the old Histands in Doylestown ,whatever they are called now, I think Eagle Power Equipment. Need a dealer who will fix things, and unfortunately my experience with JD up in Silverdale was that they weren't very responsive or could care less about small residential equipment. Now that Detlan's has sold out to Little's, perhaps that has all changed.
Buying a Kubota BX with a mower would be serious overkill for 3/4 of an acre of lawn...but maybe the Kubota dealer has a used garden tractor to sell. If I could find a low hour mower that someone wanted to sell on Craigs List to get a ZT, that might be an option.

Drew - have you investigated the "new" battery operated robo mowers?
A minimal gas mower costs about $150, a "good" gas mower costs about $300 + and Worx makes a robotic (that has gotten good reviews) for about $1,000.
/edit and it starts itself!

Amazon delivered 20 bars of Irish Spring soap this afternoon while I was planting the rhodies ... so cutting those up and getting them hung will be on the list tomorrow.

My dad used to hang little bags of wolf pee all around his yard. ( How did they get wolves to pee in those little bags?). Looked like h***. I couldn't smell them unless I got too close then they smelled bad.

Mine does that too. I wonder if there is a way to make it less sensitive?

53°F and foggy this morning, going up to 80° today. For now, there is actually rain in the forecast for Monday. Hoping that stays true. We are bone dry here.

Randy, I have a friend I went to school with who recently retired from the Marines as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. He had been assigned to a desk job in DC, but decided he didn't want to sit at a desk for his last two years, and had himself assigned to a V-22 crew. I used to tease him that he was likely the only person on the planet flying in one of those contraptions on purpose. His stories of the constant problems with that thing are discouraging. On the bright side, he told of once when they were stranded at a small town airport somewhere after a failure forced them to land there. They waited almost a week-and-a-half for the replacement parts to get there. In the mean time, once the locals found out about their situation, they started making daily deliveries of home cooked meals for him and his crew. Hard not to like that.

Welcome to the GM thread, workinonit.

Buppies, my Wife's S&W Shield 9mm has a little takedown lever inside the ejection port just under the firing pin that has to be rotated out before removing the slide assembly. It's a PITA, and I almost always forget it's there, wondering why that infernal thing won't come off. "Clever" designs like that are just frustrating. You shouldn't need a tool to field strip a firearm for cleaning.

Glad you're finally getting some breathable air, RNG. That has to feel better.
I got notice a couple days ago that something I ordered last Friday is unavailable (website said they had 90 in stock), and it will take another 10 days to make one for me at the factory in China. I told them that's fine, as I'm in no hurry for it. I woke up this morning to find an email telling me it shipped early this morning. :confused2: Some companies seem to have no connection at all between left hand and right hand.

Histands is now one of the Eagle places-bought my Stihl brush cutter from one of the Histands-he never looked happy. I had them work on my weedwackers way back when they first changed, most of the people seemed the same.
Chainsaw from tanners, nothing from Betts but my neighbor has dealt with them.

I use a simplicity regent to do my mowing, no power steering but takes my hills pretty well. When you're ready to do your shopping, let me know and I'll talk to the people around here and see if their selling. Lots of the wealthy types around my hood, who buy things and then realize it takes work then go hire out and park up whatever they bought.

60 and rain...moseying up to 67 later on.

BEF, 1800 second nap sounds busy, like it would be harder to maintain a restful sleep, than 30 minutes....and since Eric isn't fond of fractional naps, I'm sure he couldn't get to sleep if he was counting sheep but thinking about 2.08% of a day.

Hi there, workinonit!

Was out hunting skunk at 5am...turned on the spotlight and saw one behind the toolshed...when I opened the side door to go after it, it took off under the shelter...didn't see it come out the other side, so left it alone...no need to stink up my lumber and log splitter. Went looking after it got light, and didn't see anything but there are some good hiding places under there. At this point I let Coco out and she didn't seem to sniff anything.

Took a load of trash and recycle to the dump...trying to beat the rain, which I did...rode past the school where my sons went...very busy with school buses and cars dropping off kids...made sure I stayed within the 25mph school zone speed.

Eric, if you ever visit "the States" you are welcome to come here and shoot as many handgun rounds as you want...get your fill for a while...bring Max and Julie, too! But our oldest church only dates to 1639...

We need to try that!

bought my Stihl brush cutter from one of the Histands-he never looked happy.
He was very friendly with me, but no he wasn't happy with the place. His father, the old guy in the corner office with some serious Alzheimers wasn't dead
for a week before he had the place sold to Eagle. I bought my Kubota L5740 from them, mechanic named Nick Charry lived a mile from the farm where I grew up, nice that I knew
who was working on my tractor.

I see Paul Moyer in Doylestown sells Husqvarna, they've been around forever but never seemed overly motivated. Pipersville L&G, the Kubota dealer, is also another option with me being up in Solebury now. Simplicity makes a nice mower but gosh they are expensive, right up there with 3-5-7 series JD. I was super happy with my JD X750 diesel, but I was mowing almost ten acres of lawn on farm, now just a nice back yard and a little around the house, but too much for a walk behind mower. At least in beginning until I find a decent mower and am sure of my health, glad to pay someone else to do it. Plus all my tools are gone, impact wrench, grinder for blades, cordless grease gun, etc etc, would have to start all over

68°F and .26 inches rain.

Helped wife get some power washing of the concrete yesterday, but she did most of it.
I installed the new Emporium Vue energy monitor in main distribution panel. Tight fit in a live panel so I had to be extra cautious and take my time. Didn’t like the fact it doesn’t really mount so I made a mount using a couple zip ties. Now I have a few hours data to review. Need to tidy up the sensor wires and close up the panel.

Need to visit PO, new Ubiquiti network gear should be there.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

72F and sunny @ 12:30, headed to a high of 79F for the day.

Ten day forecast has been revised (I was hoping): Rain showing to be likely on Tuesday only (still less than 50% chance) instead of three days, temps also (slightly) warmer for longer ...

Apparently yesterday's festivities tuckered me out ...

Unsure what I'll get into today, but I'm pretty sure the bird feeders need refilled.

Have some pallets of block (four ?) I need to move around back and set on the concrete surround around the frog pond. Thinking about consolidating them onto fewer pallets, and then using the pallets that are freed up to stack firewood on. Shouldn't need to move entire pallets any more ... can load a couple dozen blocks at a time in the FEL when I actually start doing the retaining walls.

Have one azalea I need to move from the west side due to inadequate sunlight, over to the northeast planting bed. Hole is already prepped, just need to refill the Water Buffalo and dig it out.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...

who buy things and then realize it takes work then go hire out and park up whatever they bought.
My oldest and best friend bought a brand new JD LX280 garden tractor, mowed his new home's lawn just once,
thought back yard was too bumpy...,and then put mower in roll out basement garage and there it sat
for almost ten years with him paying a lawn service. Why he didn't sell it I have no idea and I wasn't going to embarrass him by poking at the question. But when I bought the home before the farm, and needed a bigger rider, we were talking and he said he might have just the thing for me. So I bought a 5k mower for 3k with 7 hours on it. Equivalent to 3 series JD, nice Kawasaki engine, it now lives in Delaware with another lifelong friend. Musical mowers among friends.

found the original pic of that JD as I found it in his basement, with Detlan sticker on it

Looks like a nice place

thanks Dennis, I think it will be. Very small house but I don't need much at this point in my life.
Back yard has lots of space for garden next Spring.
Pic doesn't show addition in rear, so two bedrooms, one bath plus small living room. And a separate garage for my car.

I think 30 years ago I used to insure this house for the grandfather of my carpenter, who was in fire company with me.
All good small town living.

Wouldn't that be an Irish whorehouse, RS?:confused2::laughing:

Nah ... French whorehouse ... with manly Irish patrons ... :D

I've got an extra quick attach plate laying around, and after seeing your root bucket, am thinking about making one of my own. Got any photos showing it in more detail, maybe with a tape measure in view?

I can grab some for ya.

I can tell ya though it's modeled on a WR Long product (their smaller one) and it has a reach of 30".

Since you have a much larger and more powerful tractor, you might want to go with a longer (36") and slightly wider unit.

The sides and bottom are fabbed out of 1/4 plate.

One thing I would recommend (and plan on doing myself) is to notch the top edges of the sides with backward facing teeth to rip roots.

I've found it to be very handy ... although it does work much, much better if the ground I'm using it on is fairly moist (I spent probably an hour or more yesterday digging out that oak ... which was in extremely dry ground ...)

Glad your air has cleared up ...
