Good morning!!!!

very pretty flowers Dennis.

good trip downtown, got my shot and went food shopping, passed on all the baked beans, nothing prepared was healthy, loaded with sugar and salt. But I bought three different cans of black beans and will cook them in some tomato sauce and herbs, that should be good.

got my lab tests today online, I just love being able to see all my results and can chart them over time. The best one is LDH, the marker for lymphoma and other injuries to body, shows how hard the body is fighting some illness. I went in to hospital on May 11, first two chemo treatments went through my spine which was not fun but they sure did work. Now all I have to do is keep the numbers under the little green line...

52°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 73° today. Looks like we'll be dipping into the lower 40s the next couple of nights.

Wife got ambitious yesterday and pulled out the pressure washer to clean the house siding. She got everything except the north wall above the walkout basement porch, as she didn't want to get up on the roof with no one else there. I'll get that tomorrow. It did inspire her to order the fittings for second story washing last night.

We're planning to tag team the grass cutting tomorrow so we'll have time to finish removing the old fence and cleaning up the tree line at the back of the pasture.

Speaking of grass cutting ... fell down the YouTube rabbit hole last night watching videos about scything. Fascinating stuff. Watched one were a guy with a scythe effortlessly cut a patch of grass in half the time of another guy with a powered trimmer.

I've had a couple of landlords who absolutely loved me as a renter, BEF. The last two I had, I was their only tenant who mowed my own grass. They were both shocked when I told them I wanted to do it. I've always enjoyed mowing.

I've brought up the idea of a side-by-side utility vehicle, and The Wife always poo-pooed the idea. Recently, though, she's been reconsidering. Her cousin, who lives on the property to the north of us, got one ealier this summer, and she's starting to see the utility of owning one. I think once we get the pasture converted to usable space, she'll get tired of walking back there all the time, especially if it involves carrying anything or moving stuff around. Time will tell, I guess.

Thanks for sharing the picture of your wife, Drew. She definitely looked happy.

We have no real "bug-out-bag" plans in place either, David. Our property sits up on a hill, so flooding isn't a problem here. We are more than sufficiently armed and trained to quell any unrest that might come our way (also not likely out in our area). We have food and a nice deep well. The only thing we really lack at this point is a generator, which we've also been discussing. We're much more in the shelter-in-place/hold-the-fort mentality. We're not going anywhere.

We both used to camp quite a bit. We went camping a couple times a year every year for about eight years when we were dating, as a band I played in used to play every Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend at a large camp ground near Lesterville, MO. Big festival stage and about 1500 campers, fun times. We'd play Saturday night, tear down the gear and put up our tents on the stage, then get up and eat breakfast Sunday morning before a bus would take us to a drop point several miles up the Black River whence we'd canoe back to the camp grounds ... about 4-5 hours on the water, depending on how many stops we made. I always enjoyed those weekends.

I've slept in tents, mostly. Occasionally in just a sleeping bag on the open ground. Once, I even slept in a tree (yes, on purpose ... don't ask).

.

In my genealogy I’ve found at least 2 relatives that died from scythe accidents. I used one when I was young, before we had a weed eater.

My siding needs washed, especially the front porch.

60F, "fair", and rather breezy @ 12:00. Spraying definitely out of the question.

Still somewhat stiff and sore from fall ... have a nasty yellow and purple bruise on the inside of my left thigh where I caught the top right rear corner of the box blade when I went over. Close call ...

I'm sure grass could be cut ... but I'm going to try and hold off on it for a few more days. Might replace pin, washer and retaining clip on MMM.

More mulching/clean up on northeast planting bed, prep planting holes, tend azaleas, rake out straw on lower catch basin and seed part that I scraped with mower deck, check upper catch basin and see how grass seed is coming along and possibly water.

All bird feeders - sunflower, nyjer, suet, and nugget - need refilled. Need to check bluebird mealworm feeder and see if they ever figured it out.

Thanks for all the kind comments on out planting efforts. We hope it turns out well.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...

Day got off to slow start (see below)

Late morning loaded up the pups and Soph to go to PO and leisure trip to Waimea for lunch and blizzard from DQ. About hour ride each way. Made for nice, relaxing together time. I had the burger and fries from local burger place, Soph had a chinese mixed plate at the Parker Ranch SC food court.

Gave the pups their chicken mcnuggets after we got home then out to mow a couple hours.

Duncan, the neighborhood horse passed away yesterday. Now, he wasn’t owned by the neighborhood. His owner was Kelvin, friend and neighbor who lives at end of the road down the hill. In his prime, Duncan was a working asset as Kelvin is a rancher, having several hundred head of cattle up and down the road, but Duncan hadn’t done a round up in a few years, retired, put out to pasture as they say. He was about 30 yo. Very doubtful Kelvin ever thought of him as a pet. That’s where Sophie and neighbors come in. Not to suggest he was neglected, but some felt he needed more attention. No idea how many bags of apples, those 10 lb bags of carrots and endless varieties of fruits and veggies Sophie has taken to him last 7+ years. Others brought alfalfa cubes, senior horse feed, watering containers, insect spray, and who knows what. Probably half our visitors adopted him during their stays with us. If the days were dry, we’d lug multiple milk jugs of water to fill his trough. I’d often joke that he knew the vehicles in the neighborhood, trotting toward the fence when he saw one that usually meant treats, ignoring those that ignored him. But other than these neighbors, his only friends were the cows in the pasture and Howard, the stray dog who lives outside the pasture fence (but another story).
Last year, we got a new set of neighbors, two 20 acre parcels up from us. Younger, newly retired, Ted and Marilyn hit the ground running. Marilyn even flew her horse, Linus, from the mainland. Not only rides, but drives him as well. She had him since a youngster, 18-19 years as I recall.
Being as they were hard working, traveling professionals, Linus was boarded most of his life. Marilyn was concerned he was alone here, not adapting quickly. So Sophie suggests, talk to Kelvin, surely you could bring Duncan up to your place, he’s lonely too. How could he refuse . And toward the end of last year Duncan was walked up the road to join Linus. Marilyn had a 3 stall barn built, a first for Duncan. The vet was called to check him out, and regularly for periodic care. The farrier took care of both. Linus didn’t know about cows, wild pigs, eating Hawaiian grass, Duncan didn’t know about baths, grooming, food and water in a shelter. They became best buds, to the point that Marilyn had to watch how she treated one in the presence of the other. These past months may have been the best of his life.
We saw him just a couple days ago when we delivered tomatoes. Looked good, even came over and nuzzled me, and I’m not a horse person. Both were roaming free within the yard. Soph commented how good he looked but Marilyn said his seizures had been increasing. Don’t recall what from, but no treatment.
We got the call last night from another friend. Another neighbor told Sophie that Linus was vocal all night. I’m not knowledgable enough to say whinny or neigh.
When I talked to Marilyn this morning, she said Linus was really upset, then again she was still choked up herself.
A neighborhood fixture, Duncan will be missed by many.

Sorry about Duncan. I'm sure there are a lot of sad people in your neighborhood. He lived a long life, and had love at the end of it.

My favorite boat picture of my late wife Nadene, with the biggest grin on her face, after polishing off a bushel of crabs on the back deck of our boat in St. Michaels. I picked the freshly steamed crabs up at the Crab Shack there, and didn't like ripping the bodies apart. She utterly adored it. What a look of contentment. Her cancer didn't arrive for several more years and this was a wonderful time in our lives.

What a great picture of a beautiful person. Glad you shared it.

65 high of 71 today cooler tomorrow 2 inches of rain no flooding here

Prayers for riptides, Kyles daughter, Jay and wife, Drew and all others our country

Thank you for the prayers. My daughter is trying to schedule and play for a small Christian ministry to the student body. It has to be totally done by the students.

The five grand I spent on the Kubota RTV has been some of the best money I've spent in a while. But I didn't think so at the time, being a used machine with some obvious issues. Don't think it would keep up with any of those UTVs, but then again, I don't think you'd find room for a half cubic yard of gravel in any of the UTVs, either.

Only surprise on yesterday's town run came at the allergist's, where I was told I'd lost almost fifteen pounds from the year before. I attribute that to Don's dietary influence, and eating a lot less fat, oil, sugar, salt, and anything that's processed. And maybe I'm not as sedentary as I've been in the past, either...

TGIF gang!:drink:

Good job on the weight loss and diet.

Folks, that fast Yamaha is for serious trail riding, rock climbing etc. You could go ride Baja with it. A bit overkill for utility use. But imagine, if your wifeys liked to go outback 4 wheeling, on some crazy trails, and cross streams....it would be the machine for the job. I have seen Yamaha Rhinos with 15,000+ hours on the motors.

But we did it barefoot.

I always just let the mosquitoes carry me to where I'm camping....or were they just hitching a ride?...(Not a camper here) but did it as a scout when young.

I’ve been to Europe several times. While those church buildings are impressive, and I enjoy seeing them, I also think “what a waste of money” in materialism. I think we miss the point, and I’ll leave it at that.

What is sad is that most of those churches are mostly empty.

Glad to read of the good news. I'm not a big fan of Pork n Beans. Too sweet.

Your wifey is a trooper for power washing! My 128lb wife would just tell me to do it.

Youtube rabbit hole. I get stuck in that hole too....all too often.

Yes Drew, it looks like our turn to get Storm #22.

Off today, I should call RichB1, since he's taking calls today. :) :)

RNG, true words....Thin skin of society.

Tried some new coffee today, with a hint of vanilla and cinnamon. I like both individually, but this didn't taste good to me.

Did a little work on the kids minibike last night. Got the new points and condenser soldered in. Previous people put the wrong stuff in it, and the oil felt wick was not touching the lobe, so it has a bit of wear. I hope not too bad.

Take the ball platform out when youæ±*e not towing, I started doing that years ago after several collisions while walking around the truck.

It's true that bumping into the hitch really hurts but today I was sitting at a red light when I got smacked. If i hadn't had the hitch on he would have got the bumper and the tailgate.

Chris

That’s good, but a lot less likely than hitting your shin, or worse yet some sue happy passerby.
