Well it's the first day of school all grade levels for the youngsters should interesting.
Plans for today...dump run,purchase critter and spark plug for back pack blower,vote,might try and smooth lower front field where I remove stump and stones better.

Poured first cup of coffee. 57 F° with rain this morning. Heading to 63 F° with continued rain. WF says 2" of rain. Did not much done in house yesterday. That's OK I can work on it today.
Different type of picture today. My DS shows his Mustang Shelby. He has a made a bunch of stamped door props for club members. His say Shelby Cobra, I offered to help him making part that goes on the door side of prop. I have made a couple bolts so far. But I thought I would ask here if anyone knows what this stud is called and where to buy them. It is .245" diameter X 1" long, Threaded end is 10-24. Head diameter is .420".
Eric, I tried fly fishing one time. I think the pole and line are still up in a tree some where in northern Canada. That fish would make good bait for perch fishing.
Looking, not sure about napping improving heart health. 78 and have not had a heart attack. I do rest in afternoon. But very seldom fall asleep.

LS, talked to my GD yesterday who lives WA. They are having similar skies that she showed me on Facetime. Good picture.

59 going to 85 and sunny, but while outside earlier, a cloud of fog slowly lowered over us...I could see more and more of the tops of the trees across the field disappear as it lowered until the visibility dropped to less than 100 yards. Glad it is not smoke like you have, Ted.
RNG, sorry about your Mono Hot Springs fire. I looked at photos and it looks like a beautiful spot. The elliptical machine I used at the gym has a video trail to Mono Lake, CA that looks very different, and I suspect is nowhere near your springs.
Ted, if I visited you, I'd have a hard time deciding between the home made dog food and the grilling adventure, if I were invited to dine.
Buppies, haven't done any shooting recently...the makeshift shooting range crosses a food plot that had plants too high, but now I've bush hogged, tilled, and replanted, and the weather is better, so have no excuse...and I've been itching to go.
Eric, great fishing saga. It has motivated me to get back into it. In fact, saw a great trout stream yesterday on our trip. We drove over to a county that includes part of Shenandoah NP as well as some beautiful rolling hills and farmland. They have a driving tour of homemade barn "quilts" which made for many miles on one lane winding dirt roads, and driving down private lanes (where permission has been granted). Drove up one lane to a house on a mountain with a beautiful viewshed that looked like it came out of the Friday "Wall Street Journal Mansion" section. While there, two paragliders came over us about 100 or so yards up in the air...amazing how long a glide they get with some up currents and ability to glide down into the piedmont farmland. Had a delicious picnic under a famers market shelter and bandstand at the county courthouse complex.

Good Morning!!!! 84F @ 5:15AM. Sunshine and a few clouds. Areas of smoke and haze are possible, reducing visibility at times. High around 95F. Winds NNE at 10 to 20 mph.
The Red Flag Warning we're under now started last night, but the winds here held off until about 2AM. Or at least that's when they woke me up. PG&E jumped the gun on the power shutoff, which, by the log on the solar power controller, started at 10:10PM yesterday. I was already in bed and asleep.
That's quite the fish story, Eric. How long will it take 'till that bait grows into a whopper?:laughing: But size not withstanding, you're fortunate indeed to have your own stock of volunteers to help you learn dry fly casting.:thumbsup:
Ron, I think I've seen something like that used as a binder for notebook paper. A screw with a similarly shaped head screws into the "nut" shown in your photo, trapping the sheets of paper between.
For many years, Billy, there's been talk of completing the road to Mono Hot Springs the rest of the way over the Sierra to US395, but so far it's only talk. Kinda hope it stays that way, because it would ruin the charm of the Springs, but then again maybe the fire has already taken care of that. Anyway, the Springs aren't that far from Mono Lake, geographically, but it takes the best part of a day, and maybe two, to drive from one to the other. Some fantastic scenery along the way, though! Sounds like you had a very nice drive yesterday yourselves. Did you come home with any quilts?

Going on two weeks of this now, Ted, with no end in sight. But on second thought, maybe today's wind will blow the smoke out of here? It would be a nice silver lining to counter some of the highly elevated wildfire risk. A few minutes after this was taken, the sun dropped behind a bank of smoke and disappeared altogether. I'm surprised and pleased how well an N95 mask works to take the smoke out. I'm reminded of that every time I take it off out in the garage and smell the smoke, and feel it hit the back of my throat. Now if I could just figure out how to keep it out of my eyes. Might need to look into one of those full face masks like the riot cops use.

Drew, your internet speeds will vary depending on what else (besides the speed test) is accessing it on your device, and who else on that cellular "circuit" you're sharing it with. FWIW, the satellite connection here usually gets 25/5 mbps down/up, but with over two seconds of latency, it seems a lot slower.
Took the o'scope down to the generator yesterday morning to take a look at the power coming out of the outlet down there. Found a 2 miliVolt ripple on the 60 Hz wave, at maybe 600 Hz (I didn't bother to measure it). That has me wondering if it's the same up at the house, so I'll fool around some more this morning and take a look. Also not sure if that ripple is what's causing the PoE injectors issues, so need to follow up on that, too.
There doesn't appear to be any way to clear the memory on this o'scope, other than cycling the power to it. But I can limit how much memory it will use before it wraps around and starts overwriting the buffer, so in a way, that's also a limit on the sample time and data file size. But there's no way to limit what accumulates in the data buffer, other than writing each acquisition run to the USB drive, then power cycling to clear the buffer. That means I have to wade around in the data file with a text editor looking for the waveform I'm trying to analyze, and with millions of points in the file, that's a big PITA. I also tried the web interface to the 'scope, and it turns out it's for viewing only, and there's no way to control the scope from a web browser. I downloaded a user manual from Rigol for a 'scope with similar capabilities, and was surprised to find it an almost word-for-word copy of the one for the Siglent 'scope I have. I guess if you're gonna knock off a 'scope design, you might as well save yourself a lot of bad translation work by knocking off the owner's manual, too. But I also learned that the Rigol has much better data handling capabilities, in that you can clear the memory buffer at will, set the sampling speed, and save the result off in both the 'scope's memory and on a USB thumb drive. Now I've had the Siglent freeze up several times, which required power cycling to get it going again, so unless I get instructions for working around some of the other problems I've found with it, it's going back.
It's a little after 6AM now, and I've been up since 2AM, using about 0.5 kW/hour. The battery is holding steady at 52.4 Volts, and that's with one lamp and the ceiling fan going in the bedroom, and all the network and intermittent refrigerator loads on, too. I still don't know how much battery capacity is left based on the voltage reading, even though I've been asking for that information for months now. The generator won't auto start until the battery voltage drops to 50.8 V, so all is quiet in the back yard for now. Maybe I should turn the light off and go back to sleep to help it stay that way?
