This is not some budget outfit, they overlay the entire Verizon grid. Being as I didn’t just fall off the turnip truck, I spent two months looking for the catch before switching, after three years, it doesn’t exist. Some people require a comfort factor, sometimes you have to trust your instincts and research.
I'm glad your Xfinitiy service is working for you all. But I trust experience more than I do research, and especially instinct. I mentioned StraighTalk in my example because of the nightmare experience I suffered on the month long trip to Ohio to settle my parent's estate. To recap, there was no internet service at the house, and I'd planned to tether my laptop to the iPhone and use the StraighTalk cellular network. And it didn't work because StraighTalk does not allow tethering. And yes, I specifically asked about tethering BEFORE I moved to StraighTalk from the Verizon network, so the StraighTalk rep just plain lied to me when I asked. So there I was, stuck in BFE Ohio, with only an iPhone for network access. For a month. In one phone call, which admittedly involved being transferred four times between four different Verizon techs, all of which spoke English as a native language, I was back on the Verizon network, as if I'd never left.
An example of the coverage issue happens every year when I make the trip to Death Valley National Park for the better part of a week. Verizon has licensed the sparse cellular network there, and the iPhone works fine when I walk over to the main Furnace Creek building complex. My AT&T and off brand friends are left out in the cold, not just for internet, but voice as well. I don't know the situation with Xfinity there, though, but it's been my experience that if anyone is gonna have cellular reception in the remote places in which I tend to spend vacation time, it's gonna be Verizon customers.
