79 degrees going for 96 and not a breathe of air moving. But we have a forecast for a 20 to 40% chance of rain every evening.

I was just looking online for ammo.it pretty scarce again.........

That's a bummer!
I got the rifle, but still need to buy optics for it...no need for ammo right now.
I still have a hundred (or so) rounds of .380. So far, other then the occasional failure to lock the slide open, the little Kahr has been running fine.

Ron, wish I could help you paint.
I noticed Dads house needs painted. First it needs the trees and shrubs cut away. He’s letting trees grow up too close.
I did spray some wet and forget on the north side, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

Guy that hunts on dad got this pic taken on the farm.

Deer didn’t like the drone, nor the birds. Every time I flew it birds would fly around it.

Thanks for the prayers Buppies. She has lost a lot of her motivation to do work, and things for pleasure (play guitar).

I took a different road on the game of Fortnight. I told my kids that I didn't want them playing video games of killing other video persons. I know it's a game, and it is addicting....so I nipped it in the bud. Told my son he could play tanks or robot video games, just not directly killing other video human competitors. Maybe I'm wrong about it all. I've been told I'm old fashioned....definitely won't let them play the games that include car jacking and such.

BEF, glad you got to see your folks.

I wonder how Farmer is doing? I hope his kids are doing better.

Coffee is brewing. Our local grocery chain (HEB) sells a "Houston Blend" flavored coffee that I really like. I want to say it has pecan praline and coconut flavors.

Rip, your mention of Sampson Boat building videos has helped me kill about 30 hours of time out of the heat....also lost a lot of sleep. I consider the guy very fortunate that he hasn't gotten himself or others hurt any worse. But you're right. His girl friend is beautiful, he'd better marry her before she gets away. Not sure of any off camera confrontations.

Drew, nice garden. Not a single weed. I guess they use a hose to fill those milk jugs.

Ron, beautiful pic.

Everyday is a blessing.

Prayers for those in need.

Good Morning!!!! 72F @ 7:00AM. Plentiful sunshine. High around 100F. Winds light and variable.

Are the cranes building nests, Ron? Noticed the grass in its beak. How many different lilies do you have, anyway?:confused2:

Everybody bought a 2 year supply of TP and no money left for fireworks..........

Didn't hear any fireworks here, either, even with the windows open. Most all of the festivities were cancelled. One fireworks stand said they were rolling all their profits into next year's show. Only two towns have legal "safe and sane" fireworks for sale, and the county DA said he would vigorously prosecute use of any kind of fireworks anywhere outside those two towns. Two new wildfires were reported nearby yesterday, but no word on whether or not they were linked to fireworks.

How do you plan on eating anything from your garden with all that hot sauce on it, Jay? Or do you like it that way?

Not sure I've told this story here or not, but years ago we, a group of motorcyclists, were at a national park in Utah and the chipmunks were begging for something to eat. I had a bag of redhot peanuts in my pocket, so I figgered Why Not? One little begger got almost all of them, and instead of eating them, he was filling his cheek pouches. He had so many in them he could no longer close his mouth. Then all of a sudden his eyes bugged out and he started using is paws to push all those red hot peanuts out of his pouches. My buddy and I were laughing so hard our sides started to hurt. But his girlfriend got mad an threatened to tell the park ranger...

I've had good luck adjusting the carbs on most of my Stihl products using the instructions that came with them. There are electronic versions available at their website, too, Don.

I think that firework would have worked just as well on a hedgehog, Eric...

Drove an hour to meet a friend returning from his house hunting trip in Klamath Falls yesterday morning. On the way over I was listening to a garden show on the radio. Lots of call in questions and answers, but none of them about using bottles for drip irrigation, Drew. Be a good way for brown thumbs like me to control how much water the plants were getting, though. Turned out that the restaurant we met at was closed, and neither of us had much of an appetite anyway, so we just stood out in the parking lot and gabbed for half an hour. His best prospect so far is a 40'x60' Mexican restaurant turned church, now vacant, that he thinks can be converted to a shop with a little living area inside. It's part of an estate, though, that might take more time to settle than he'd like; he's retiring in March of next year. On the way back I listened to a car show, and some of what I heard didn't sound right at all. It got me wondering how much of the garden info was bum, too, that I was just to ignorant to detect.

I've rebuilt several Speedaire compressors, had to put new valves into the big two stage one just a couple years ago. Parts used to come from Sears; is that still the case?

Had another go at the alarm system yesterday, and noticed that it would only work when the ignition was on. It uses two power leads, both of which the instructions said to connect to always on 12 VDC. I'd only connected one, as the other was supposed to be to power the remote start feature, which I don't intend to use. But since the alarm wasn't active with just the other one when the key was off, I hooked up the remote start lead. And everything else in the van came on, too, even with the ignition key in the off position. Figured it had to be coming in from something else on the control module, and it turned out that the satellite link for the GPS had it's own power lead. As soon as I disconnected it, things went back to normal. Read the instructions for the GPS link again, and there was a very tiny asterisk that led to a line at the bottom of the page that I think means it doesn't need its own power if the controller module provides it. But there was nothing in the control module instructions saying it would power the GPS link. So more homework today.

by then it was scorching hot out on the driveway, and a cold beer and the lizards were calling from the back porch again. More Jimmy Buffett on the stereo, and as soon as it started, one of the lizards walked up to where I was sitting and started watching me. Begging. Ran right up and jumped into my hand to get its meal worm, then it's bigger buddy came over and did the same. The big one got the next three in a row, at which point the little one chased it away. The little one got the next two, then the big one came back and started circling it with it's back arched up and walking all stiff legged. Not sure what that meant, as the little one just ignored it. Neither one seemed interested in another meal worm, though, so it must've meant something.

The hummers have emptied the feeders again, so I better get up and feed 'em. Gonna be another nice, but hot, summer day. Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!

Good morning, last nights supper was a full rack of ribs with mashed potatoes and greens. Excellent ribs! Boston Pizza always does a nice job on them.
Came back to the truck, checked the oil and fluids, found the water filter leaking so I called after hours service and 6 hours later a new water filter was installed and back in air con again. Fed the mosquitos for that 6 hours.
come midnight and we got a light show and thunderstorm complete with hail. fireworks? Nope, just a thunderstorm.

The temp is 72 right now and headed for 84°F. There is a heat warning in effect.
Tuesday & Thursday they claim it'll be 90, Wednesday, and Friday 88.

I am back to work on Monday about noon.

Stay safe and well all.

I think you're right to be concerned about video games, Kyle. And TV violence, too. It's become shockingly realistic these days, not at all like the old TV westerns and cops'n'robbers stuff I watched as a kid. I think that kind of media is driving at least some of the mass shootings, and maybe even some of the violent protests, too. Without good guidance, kids don't know any better. Associating violence and killing with fun isn't something that they should be taught.:2cents:

I was going through the manual for the Ruger American .300 BLK rifle this morning and cleaned the rifle up a bit.
This rifle comes with a 10 round P-Mag...which is fine....P-Mags are great. I have several for the AR-15's I own.
However, the mag that came with the rifle is marked 5.56-45.
Now, The 5.56 P-mags will accept factory .300 BLK and, from what I've read, will cycle them. However, accidently putting a mag of .300 BLK in a 5.56 chambered rifle is extremely dangerous. a .300 round is not going through a 5.56 barrel. Good chance this will destroy the rifle and, very possibly, injure (or worse) the shooter.
IMHO, this is extremely stupid of Ruger...and will, undoubtedly, result in a lawsuit at some point.
I ordered two Lancer magazines in .300 BLK. Ill use the 10 rounder from Ruger strictly for 5.56 ammo.

The Ruger American bolt action rifles are really nice, especially considering the price. If you buy one, I strongly suggest you buy mags for .300 BLK or mark the magazine in some way you cannot mix the ammo calibers

Yesterday turned out to be a decent day for mowing a lot of weeds posing as a lawn. I probably spent +3 hours on the rider. My bone dry martini during "Happy Hour"*was ice cold. The steaks and rosemary encrusted baked potatoes came out as expected from the Big Green Egg. I heard one "BOOM" from one of my neighbors the next hill over. Excepting the lack of ice cold beers and frozen mugs*it was a decent, typical, July 4th.
I hope that everyone here had the 4th of July they anticipated or even better- had their expectations exceeded.

It was a humid mostly overcast 57ºF for today's low temperature, but the sun burned off the early morning clouds and it is now a mostly sunny, humid 79ºF. One early morning walk around the lower perimeter and he's done for the day. Now he's now morphed into a panting drooling speed bump that occasionally moves to a better position to disrupt traffic flow. I spent ~2 hours in the garden this AM mostly weeding and trying to salvage what the woodchuck did not eat. I anticipate a humid, sunny afternoon with an afternoon high in the mid80ºF's and hopefully a couple of popup showers/Tstorms. It looks like most of the weather action will be east/south of my location.

Drew- I had a barnful of those Rodale gardening magazines. J.I. Rodale's How to Grow Vegetables and Fruits by the Organic Method is still my Gardening "Bible." What a beautiful garden. I could see that picture in some fancy gardening magazine. My garden is not so photogenic. With all the cardboard chewy.com boxes I use in the garden paths I could be on some of their Sales & Marketing literature. I have to replant my corn- too cold and dry when I planted, and with Mr. Bear´s rearranging my survey and tape measured planted corn very little corn sprouted. I am hoping that the dealer with whom I do business gets the cultivator head for my Stihl Kombi system this week so I do not have to use the garden fork to turn the soil over. It's way too wet to back the tractor in that part of the garden and use its tiller after all the recent rain.

BEF- I am so happy that you finally could 都ee your Dad. I had a magpie attack one of drones down in FL whenever I got too close to its nest. I killed a lot of grasshoppers and some dragonflies with my drones. I think the frequency generated by those motors attracted them. Snarge is really hard to get off those props. I had hummingbirds follow my fixed pitch helicopters; I think the colors attracted them, and they never got too close either.

RNG- I think that I need to dilute the solution a bit. This morning I burned myself good tasting some of the weeds that got sprayed. I/We like hot sauce within reason. I hope I can rinse most of that spray off before We eat it.

"... Associating violence and killing with fun isn't something that they should be taught"- RNG. I agree and the movie and TV industry's sexualizing violence (and guns) exacerbates the problem.

I hope that everyone has the Sunday they anticipated.

Stay safe and healthy.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

Good morning to all! Low of 54 after finally getting a t-storm. We got 3/4 " of rain in about 15 minutes if that. Came down hard and fast. You wouldn't be able to tell that it rained this morning. Maybe another today.

Got all of the r/c stuff out of the attic in the old house and moved over to the garage for sorting. There was a lot more saved than I remembered. :eek:Quite a few had previous damage, but minor, so I am sure that is why they were saved. Only the best will go out To the hobby shack, the remainder will have a new home in the garage.... somewhere.... that will have to be another endeavor...

Ron, great pics as usual. Sorry to hear that you need help to paint the barn and they can't get to you for so long. I am still stubborn enough that i will go up an extension ladder.... once up there, my brain says "you dumb a§§"! I am definitely shaky, and i think in the near future, that I won't be doing that anymore. Not worth the risk...

Drew, glad you are still thinking ahead, knowing your determination, you will find that next house. Stay the course.

Did a rotisserie chicken on the grill last night, with some baked potatoes. Turned out excellent. I am glad I spent the $30 for the rotisserie attachment. I want to try a beef roast, but previous attempts over the years have not turned out so well...

RNG, glad you are making some headway with the van. When it comes to anything electronic, I try to avoid it... had to do these days. I was just reading through the instructions for a new RC battery charger last night.... with the very bad CHenglish translation, and my new found difficulties with technology, I have basically resolved to just plug in the batteries and see what it tells me to do!

I am kinda at a crossroad with with the hobby shack.... do I put up some shelves that wifey wants, move more stuff out there first, start thinning the r/c herd / supplies, or just do some sorting of what is out there already.... decisions, decisions... :indifferent::prescription:

I was helping the neighbor mount some tie down loops on his trailer yesterday. Ended up spinning the base plate with the drill, taking out a chunk of forefinger skin about a 1/2" long... not a cut, just missing a chunk... have to be careful not to touch anything there... still hurting a bit this morning.

Well, that sums up my past two days.... it's great hearing about what everyone does daily.

Ya'all have a great day!

/ Good morning!!!! #114,892
Oh, forgot to mention the fireworks.... since they cancelled all the big shows, a bunch of people went out and bought a bunch. They were going off all around. We have a neighbor about 1/2 mile away who is a champion MMA fighter and has a ranch here. I will say, he had to have spent thousands of $ on his display. Went on for about 2 hours and would rival any professional display. It was nice.

/ Good morning!!!! #114,893
83F and partly cloudy @ 11:30. Dewpoint 62F. Overnight low was 63F.

No shortage of fireworks around here yesterday. At 10:01 yesterday morning (probably the time when the noise ordinance restrictions abate) the shooting started a couple of lots over. That continued for at least an hour. (This is the "new" neighbor that came in and clear cut the property a couple of years ago and is apparently a "firearms instructor" of some sort ...) After that there was the occasional firework throughout the day and once it got towards evening the pace really picked up - to the point that all the cats went and hid ... I was outside at dusk and heard a rocket as it fell onto the roof of the pole barn.

Was a pretty busy day ... but greasing the loader was not near the top of the list.

Did get the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th coats of BLO applied to the Flicker nest box ... the wood mostly just seems to drink it in, with no sign of an end ... only place it's slowing down is on the knots. Will probably throw a couple more coats on there today. Got the lid corrected as well ... but it still needs a little more sanding before BLO.

Got two tops and two bottoms cut for the mealworm feeders. The tops got a couple of coats of BLO, one bottom got several coats of blue paint and the other bottom had a slight crack/split ... so it got glued and clamped.

About midday The Woman made some of her macaroni salad using her Mom's recipe and then ran out to pick up a rack of ribs. Had her pick me up a Cold Cut Combo from Subway for lunch while she was out. She came back with only a 6" ... :( She spent some time chatting and catching up with various relatives.

Got all the wood cut for another Gliwood Slot nest box ... but didn't get it put together. I did get the roof coated with BLO though. Think I'm going to paint all the parts before I put it together. Saves having to mask it.

Thinned out some Gray Professional Rust-Oleum paint and painted one side on the back board for the "Private Drive" sign and one side of the baseboard mount for the DRST.

Around an hour and half before dark in the cool of the evening we started working on the blueberry bed, pulling weeds and giving the last plant a severe pruning and working the remainder of the peat moss into the soil around it. She actually just came in from doing some more weeding on it a moment ago and is complaining that she "needs equipment" ... so I guess that loader is gonna get greased here shortly.

Got one last order placed last night with Menards before the 11% rebated ended - peat moss and composted cow manure mainly. Might run out at some point later this afternoon and pick that up as it's ready.

Hope everyone had an enjoyable 4th.

Have a good/safe day today.

71°F and 1.66 inches rain. Garden will be very happy. But of course so will the grass LOL

My 2nd round of corn seedlings are ready for transplant. That will be first task after coffee.

Really enjoyed dinner out with wife last night. She did too. A bit on pricey side, but she is so worth it. A very very different 4th for us. 1st time since 2007 we didn’t have a houseful for celebratory potluck.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

I get Menards AD for next week on Thursday.

Good morning all. 7/4 weather 74F for the start, mostly clear, light breeze. Light wind day, some popup thunderstorms .05 inch rain in gauge. High temp was 95F. Opening Ceremony with flag raising, pledge of Allegiance and VFW guy gave a recruiting speech. Golf cart parade went well, no judging this year. No food trucks mini kid's rides this year. Fireworks at night watched from boat. Someone did a nice job of choreography, very nice use of mixing height and types.

Drew you always have been very thorough with your research. Hope you had a happy 4th
Billy much agreed !
Phil good no weather damage, and thanks for retirement update.
Roy not many people get 15 to 20 years from a front loader, yes appliances are expensive and don't last as long :(
Thomas nothing special for the 4th?
RNG after the hat hit 95F had to to slow down and ice neck. If no video I write down the sequences for each feature I wish to program, then tape my instructions to steering wheel, then just program that feature
Ron neat pic. enjoy your painting

Ted- When I first read your post (a little too quickly) I thought that you had circumsized yourself. On re-read I am sorry to read about your lost chunk of finger. I hope it heals quickly.

There’s a roadsign on I80 in PA with a Scot Run exit. It may be reflective of my sick thinking, but I always read Scrotum.

David- Thanks for the weather station link. I really should have researched a little more about personal weather stations. I am happy to read that you and Sophie had a decent meal out. Only outdoor dining is allowed in MA until this Monday when MA enters Phase 3 = indoor dining will be allowed (at reduced capacity). Honestly our MA governor has done a really decent job trying to manage C-19. Peg and I are not “there” yet, but I would like to take a bite of the smoked ribeye steak done rare-medium rare at that restaurant where we got the recent takeout sometime soon.

Bruce- I am happy that you had decent 4th of July fireworks and able to watch from your boat. I tried that once in my sailboat. I never saw so many party barges with obviously impaired skippers at the helm with their crews in worse shape .…. Never again. I agree about those bump head trimmer heads. I've been soaking my older, more brittle, trimmer string in water prior to winding on the head. It seems to help with the line unwinding in use.

did even better today...Garden Club lady brought me leftovers from yesterday, ribs were amazing, meat fell off bone,
wonderful smoked flavor, I'm guessing chipolte something, said she was from Texas and knew her ribs. Oh my...

Kinda along the lines of "Big Bone Lick State Park", if I remember rightly is in Ohio off I75. I am sure someone will correct me if I am infact misteaken.
