Good morning!!!!

My mother had a whole row / patch of Iris along the side of the garage and along a neighbors fence. They were the pride and joy of the neighborhood, seemed that no one could walk by without saying how beautiful they were!

I am going to jump on the flower picture wagon... here are a couple of wifeys favorites. Know what they are?

My largely uneducated guess would be day lilies and yellow tiger lilies ?

(We have both here)

My wife picked half a dozen fresh from the garden only yesterday and shared them with me. She loves strawberries, sharing the first of the crop with me was special - or rather it would have been if she hadn't later confessed to have been picking them all week :)

my wife would say, you snooze you lose.

Yes, the lily family.... there are a bunch of subspecies, these are in the general classification of Asiatic Lily. Apparently only a warm climate species.

Drew, so glad to read of improvements.

Your tool thoughts remind me of a mental struggle I知 having too often. What happens to my stuff when something happens to me? Not that I have a collection of the greatest, but it is of value, and rather needed for property maintenance. Currently, I don稚 think our son would realize, let along appreciate it and likely unknowingly just give it away. He is still 12 years from retiring. Makes me wonder if maybe he値l decide to retire here and will need it. Currently I suspect his wife痴 thinking is sell, convert to cash. ...

David,

If you have the time and the inclination, this might an opportunity to write a letter or two ... explaining what you have and where it is likely headed (to him)

A big regret I have is, at a much younger age (and not knowing what I had), having sold my grandfather's micrometers to a friend ... for probably what was a relative pittance.

A couple of Brown and Sharpe OD mic's (0" up to 3" or 4" IIRC) and a Starrett ID mic set with the extensions going up to around 12" ...

Interestingly enough, although I likely don't (and wouldn't) have any real use for the ID mics, I'm finding that they hold quite a bit of sentimental value for me ... as I never really got to know him all that well. (He died of gangrene after having his leg amputated as a result of, I believe, an industrial accident when I was very young - probably around 5 or 6)

These were tools he used in his job at Firestone, producing ordnance for the Second World War.

42 right now...a rather unseasonably cool high in the upper 50's today.
Looks to be a calm day, so I'll probably trim some limbs (job I've been putting off for a few weeks) and chip them.
Still quite cool (52 degrees) and breezy...
I don't trim overhead when it's breezy...more chance of pinching the saw blade or, even worse, limb coming down on the wrong place (like my head!!). Guess the de-limbing will wait until tomorrow.
Lawn is borderline as far as mowing is concerned...maybe later, but right now I think I'll watch a couple movies (Blu-Rays) I bought
BTW, I bought "The Asphalt Jungle" (1950) a while back...that is one outstanding movie!! True classic!!!

Akron Standard/Micro-Poise. Next to General Tire office building. A division of ITW.

Got it.

Yeah ... drove past that building too many times to count. In fact, I had a couple of acquaintances that worked there.

I was wondering if it might be machine/mold shop related.

Used to be quite a bit of that sort of thing throughout Northeast Ohio.

... RS, did you dream of tempura? ...

Billy,

I do not know - generally, I sleep so soundly that I am dead to the world and don't often recall dreams, assuming I am even having any at all.

I sure am thinking about it now though ...

:D

BEF, sounds like you gave a well researched tribute, and what a beautiful cemetery.

That’s the Massanutten mts in background.
I did find 1 mistake that I told them. When I got home I looked thru our book “The Lincoln’s in Virginia” by John Wayland, written in 1946 reprinted in 1987
The original land purchased by Va John Lincoln did not go as far as I said. His grandson David purchased land at Lacey Spring, it was not part of John’s 600 acres. IMG_4499.JPG
Side note:
Jacob Sr (wife’s 5G GF, born in Berks county PA 1751)IMG_4499.JPG
is brother to Capt Abraham (presidents GF) bought land adjacent to his Dads, his first 2 brothers bought from his Dad’s 600. They later found out it was considerable less than 600 acres.
One of the later Lincoln’s was a surveyor and acquired a lot of land.
There are at least 8 Abraham’s, 7 Johns, and 5 Jacobs. The book mentions one family that deliberately broke away from the common naming tradition, wife’s 2G GF who used names like Ernest (wife’s dad is Ernest 3rd and is buried next to his grandfather)
Current picture of Jacob Sr house taken yesterday. Someone recently bought and is fixing up.

Right ... beautiful blooms on them for sure ...

The orange ones we have here I think are volunteers or transplants - neighbor used to grow them and would dump cuttings at the back of his property which is now ours.

The yellow one is one The Woman bought several years ago and has managed not to kill off ... in fact, she's very impressed that it seems to be doing quite well, thriving actually:

I think today was the first time that first bloom has opened.
