President Eisenhower warned us of the "military/industrial complex", but there's also the "medical/industrial complex" that you don't hear much about. Medicine is a business, and the more patient/customers they have, the more money they can make. Baby Boomers have been a boon to them as we enter our "golden years", full of increasing medical needs. It's a bit like letting the fox watch the hen house when it comes to care facilities recommending longer stays for patients.

Then there are the legal aspects. What would happen if the facility gave you the green light to go home, Drew, and you were hurt in a fall or other accident that an attorney could argue would have been prevented had you stayed in their care?

Then there's the elephant in the room that many of us will someday face, especially when it comes to diseases of the mind. You may be physically fit, but if your brain isn't firing on all cylinders, you could be a danger to yourself and to others. You might not even realize it. And here again, the medical/industrial complex decides your fate, and you may not like the outcome. This is where an advocate comes in, someone they have no control over, someone that knows the rules by which such decisions must be made, someone that knows how to blow the whistle when (not necessarily if) the MIC oversteps it's bounds in their best interest, not yours.

Looking on the brighter side, though, it sounds like your making very good progress toward a full recovery. And you don't sound like you're missing on any cylinders, at least to me.

As an aside, my mother had incontinence issues for the last few years of her life. I would fly back home several times a year and telecommute to my job for a couple weeks to give her boyfriend/caregiver a break. She was pretty good at letting us know when she had to go, but still had accidents, too. I remember how much she would laugh when it was my turn to get her cleaned up, payback no doubt for all those times she changed my diapers.

I don't know if I attract poor work like lightning to a ground rod or not, Paul. I talked to a lot of solar installers that were clearly unqualified to tackle a system this complex, and this one was one of two that not only talked the talk, but walked the walk. Frankly, I had pretty low expectations that the system would come up and run flawlessly in the time frame they were trying to make, especially after I boogered the main power line conduit. That added more time to the job and at the same time their crews are incredibly busy meeting commitments on other projects. They're having trouble managing the workload, and taking shortcuts and making mistakes as a result. I'm also no expert on what is acceptable and what is not, but I think I know a lot more than the average homeowner and can more easily see when things are not what they should be. It drives me crazy that the lapses in communication have been pretty consistent, but so far at least, issues have been resolved satisfactorily, and I don't see any indication of that changing. I have power now, and will be just fine until PG&E starts the preemptive power outages again. There is also a sizeable unpaid balance on the system, and I don't see them walking away from that, either.

Our county's active covid-19 cases continue to dwindle. This afternoon we are at 195 active cases (out of a total of 660 confirmed cases since this started) and only 8 are in the hospital. We have had 27 deaths. (2 deaths up from yesterday and two ventilators have opened up. 72% of ventilators are available now.)

We all have a tendency to want to trust people, RNG, especially those with knowledge about things that most of us don't have. That's how we usually get burned. I was really just ribbing you over it. I have my fair share of incompetent contractors as well.

If you're comfortable with the way they resolve the issues, that's already a huge step in their favor.

As for us, we still haven't heard back from our (ex-) landscaper. It is nice to see, though, that the work he left unfinished after 14 months of blowing us off was easily 90% completed by a competent excavator in less than three days this week.
Progress.

Here are the pics from yesterdays paint work. The bench cast iron pieces took the black enamel well... should outlast me (at least another 40 years). The shed trim was good to go, so we started the siding color, pics of that later...

Also got the shed windows installed/ trimmed / painted.

Our county has a total of 959 cases, I can’t get the active case number but suspect it’s less than 200, no new cases today.

Paul and RNG- I am sorry to read about your contractor challenges. We've been pretty lucky so far with contractors, but that could change with the next contractor.

Drew- Thanks for the update. And I am really, really happy to read that you can now walk w/o cane assist. :D It's always a + thing when the "patient" outperforms the expectations of the "experts.";) My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for continued progress.

Ted- Thanks for sharing your newest projects.

Brogen is not a happy camper with this HHH weather. He finally acted like he wanted to go for a walk and we did so, but he would only stay in the shade; smart dog. He still has not really eaten today, but at +160#'s I think a missed meal or 3 would not really hurt.

Found the Doe that I see everyday is now sleeping under a bush by my front door, she does not seem to be scared of anything. Wonder if it's the same doe that was sleeping under my back stair when is was just losing it's spots?

She feels safe and secure and that takes while to earn that trust. :)

"Thomas- Maybe I should take up cigars. Wifey will not ride in the truck. 10 hours of detailing and the truck still smelled of Saint Bernard."

I am not encouraging taking up the habit but slow dirt road country ride window down listening 50's- 60's country music enjoy smooth cigar.
Our late german shepherd also left its odor but hey it is what it is she was part of the family.

No real plans for this evening other than purchasing 5 cucumber plants take Mrs. for take out.

Enjoy the rest of the day all.

Drew, surely glad to read of your progress. I’ll even take your frustration as a positive 🤙

RNG, glad to hear things working out, albeit slowly. Wise to get it right before writing that final check. Good to get as much labeled and documented as possible. I would hope that one of the final steps includes a thorough walk thru, which I assume you will record.

Like the shed mods, Ted.

Re my garden area. Area is too large. Originally it was to be a common garden area for us and 5 neighbor families. The idea being not having to till individual properties, fenced against the pigs, convenient location where each family would grow just a few items but enough to share. Down to just 3 active participants, if you include the 1 neighbor with 2 small rows of daikon. I’m concentrating in an area 40x40, but with the hope of staggering plantings over time. Luckily we don’t worry much about hail, gosh that had to sux, Ted. I think our worry is more as to rainy season. Seems a lot of covered, greenhouse type growing here, especially for veggies. I have a neighbor with a rather nice aquaponics setup. I can see where there could be labor benefits.

Town run went well, but on return wife got a call from clinic to reschedule her appointment. Her Dr took the day off due to bad back.

Of course it has been raining on and off since getting home.
