Good evening!Temp range today was 49˚F to 84˚F with lots of virus killing sun.

RNG nice tractor - exactly what you need to cut in some nice roads on the sides of your hills.

Finished the last golf course just in time this evening, now the courses won't be open for walkers again till Christmas day unless we have a terrible second wave of corvid19.

Yesterday they did find an infected cluster in a nursing home on the Southside of the county after an employee got sick they tested everyone in the home and found 46 positives.

Thomas I bet the cats like your Birthday as much as you did.

BEF I have had some stuck filters also but either got them off with this and a cheater bar, or destroyed them trying.

Happy birthday Thomas! Sorry I missed by a day.
Nice tractor RNG.
Looks like our little town is getting hit with Covid. 76 cases with 14 deaths so far. That's a lot for a small bedroom community.
Off to work. Stay safe and healthy everyone.

Good morning, the temp is 33°F and going to 54. Wind ENE 9 gusting to 17 mph. Sunny.

Belated Happy Birthday, Thomas!

I got the ride on mowers' oil changed yesterday and rolled out the ruts I had made when I buried the cat. Today I may sharpen the blades and grease it.
Questions for all you multi blade gurus, When I put the blades back on do they both face the same way (Parallel) or do you put them perpendicular to each other?
I have never sharpened lawnmower blades before. Do you make them single edged or double? Razor sharp or just with an edge?

After the mower comes the genny or the walk behind mower, maybe both.

Have a safe and healthy day all

Single edged for blades once a month for sharpening

44 this morning very breezy more rain Wednesday

Prayers for all

Nice work LS

44 and still drizzly after a mostly rain filled day and night. Should partially clear and get to a nice 63.

That porch will be nice, Ted. Glad your Costco trip went well. I miss Costco...haven't been in 2 months. May go early tomorrow or Wednesday.

Good luck with that filter, BEF. If the rain and wind ever die down, I'll do my tractor and truck oil.

RNG, hoping it shows up today.

We did get a break in the rain long enough for me to do a little target shooting, and then fire up the grill for some asparagus, zucchini and chicken...got rained on before they finished cooking, but the grill hood kept everything dry, except me.

Good morning all. Cooler day today, but bright sun, high sixties.
Phil, are those high numbers due to a nursing home issue? Stay safe.
Bill, good questions.
I usually try to have blades line up perpendicular, might run a little smoother.
Brand new blades have never seemed very sharp to me. Grew up sharpening blades on our farm, always made them sharp but not knife blade sharp.
Particularly if you have rocky or sandy soil, you'll have to resharpen the extra sharp blades more often. But that's my preference, sharp
blades make a certain noise, like chopping lettuce.

Next door neighbor coming over first thing today to help me sharpen blades. He has never owned a grinding wheel, buys a lot of expensive blades and always looks at me in wonder as I do my own.

Bush hog blades should not be too sharp though, particularly if you are mowing land with small trees or brush in it. Bush hog blade should preferably leave the stalk cut off with a fuzzy or rough end. Otherwise you get pungii stakes left that are bad news on the sides of tractor tires.

   / Good morning!!!! #110,970
Way to tell if blades need sharpened look at grass after cutting if grass blades are cut still good if blades of grass that is are torn time to resharpen

Need to pour first cup of coffee. 27° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 63° with sun all day. Back to weeding gardens today. Hope to get that part done. Then have to do mulch. Forgot about mower. It started with no problems. Did order a replacement starter. Neighbor bought me some diesel fuel while he was out yesterday. That was better than me going out for it. Diesel is now $2.29. Gas is $.99.
Started prepping drone for it's first flight. Need a day when nothing else is on the agenda for first flight.

Critter are finding other things to do with warmer weather.

LS, nice porch addition.

Drew, what do you use to sharpen mower blades?

Mostly, no check in yesterday.

Buckeye, hope the filter comes off.

RNG, 17' reach with BH. Set up on back patio and dig a trench.

Everyone be safe and healthy.

Good Morning All

Mostly, no check in yesterday.

...and Eric has been off the airwaves with their internet problem. We may need an "Operation TBN" to do a rescue of these guys.

When RNG gets real good with that 17' BH, he'll sit on his deck and use it to open the fridge inside and grab a cold one.

Good Morning!!!! 60F @ 5:45AM. Sun and clouds mixed. High 86F. Winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph.

That new porch looks like a fine place to enjoy a cool adult beverage at the end of the day, Ted.

I don't blame you for not waiting, David. Looks delicious!

From the looks of some of the tools you guys use, I've led a very charmed life when it comes to oil filters!

Some birthday present, eh Thomas?:confused2:

Sleeping with the glass sliders open these days to let some cool evening air in. The closest neighbors raise ducks and geese, and I can hear a mountain lion prowling around out there this morning. It's got 'em all agitated, and they're sure makin' a racket.

Got the door lock actuators installed yesterday and found out the kit I bought includes an alarm system controller to work the actuators. Kind of a crappy alarm, so all I'll use from the kit will be the actuators and the nice brackets that came with them. Maybe I could put the alarm in the truck?

Spent the rest of the day reading through the alarm installation guide; that things got more wires than Carter has liver pills. Only gonna need a handful of the three dozen or so provided, so I marked the sections in the instruction sheets that apply. Just figuring out which part was what was a challenge. They all had part number stickers on 'em, but the number on the parts had an extra zero on the end compared to the ones on the parts list. :duh: Right about then I got a text from my bodyman neighbor inviting himself to a beer on the back porch, and I was more than ready for one myself.

I do need to clear a trail to a part of the property I found after the fire, Don. There's a hillside terrace with not too much slope that looks like it might make a fine rifle range, if I can just get to it. Need to study up on notching into hillsides first, though.

You all made me go look at the photos again; the reach on that BH is only fourteen feet. Looks like I'll have to get up off my butt for that beer after all. When the old tractor broke, I was at a bad spot trying to reach down hill with the 'hoe to keep digging. The back wheels of the tractor were just over the brow of the hill, and the gearbox and stabilizers were the only thing keeping it from rolling down. Pretty sure this new one'll keep me out of that kind of trouble.

Got a call around noon yesterday from the truck driver's wife. She was wanting to know if there'd be enough room to turn the truck and trailer around, either in the cul-de-sac where the driveway starts, or down at the end of the driveway by the house. I suggested she have her husband call me when he's a few minutes out, while there's still good cellular reception, and I'd meet him with the side-by-side in the cul-de-sac and show him the way in. That way he can decide what he wants to do; it really doesn't matter to me. Anyway, it sounds like he'll be here sometime this morning.:cool2:

Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!

Thomas BRRRRR
I came in after being outside for several hours, got chilled due to wind

   / Good morning!!!! #110,976
Good morning 63˚F 50% humidity, lots of sun, heading to the mid 80s, not a good day for the virus to hang around.

Golf starts up today, only one person per cart and foursome can only have 2 carts. ???? so will 2 people walk the course, we will find out. A lot of silly rules are coming out that have nothing to do with protecting people, just feel good rules I guess.

Finished the attic walk way so If the attic needs some more supports for the warranty sheetrock repair at least a foot won't be coming through the ceiling. Still have to wait another week before they start non-emergency repairs.

They are letting us in the garden 2 days a week for 3 hours each day, during the transitional phase. I have had experience with my former country garden, before we moved there, to only be in the garden one day a week so with the irrigation set it is not a problem. i do have some room to plant the tomatoes tomorrow and might have time for a little tractor work, I see there are request for mulch and piles of limbs that need moving.

RNG, do you think you can manage to let the drone hover while you operate your new tractor?

With a little breeze this morning, we had no dew, so I got the yard mowed early.:cool2:

Good morning to all! Low of 42, going up to 76 today, sunny.

RNG, yes, the front porch is going to become a nice evening chill spot! Wifey already ordered a small bistro table / chair set. We have a set of porch rockers still over at the old big house (Sons), but they really have a big footprint and would probably crowd the porch. They will stay over there on the 16x20 size porch!

I bet you are anxiously awaiting the tractor arrival ! Hopefully he will make the call to you as advised. We are awaiting the REAL pictures when it arrives! Congrats again!

Ron, thanks for the daily morning picture ! They look like they have been arguing with the space between them. The mating pairs out here seem to stay closer so the males can defend better.

Thomas, sorry to see you are still getting snow. It it common for your area to have snow this late? Sure is pretty though!

Drew, are your temps approaching 90 yet?

Today is double dog to the groomer day. First the old lady Kassie will go, followed by Max. She works out of her home, only does one doggie at a time, and only has one client ata time. I guess that counts as social distancing....

Hopefully, I will get a chance to work on the porch today, but if I do not... well that is ok. I have been really tired, but having difficulties sleeping due to leg cramping, then the knee complains, then more cramps, etc... I guess I should take a break. I just feel better when I keep moving.... I guess there is a limit to that though....

Hope everyone has a great start to the week !

Bird, I was thinking about you the other day when I saw an old Impala driving in our little town. I appeared to be an original condition Deputy Sheriff cruiser. It was done up in black/white, big sheriff star on the door, had the old spot lights and a big ol gum ball light on top. I think it was a ‘62 or ‘63. I tried chasing it down thinking it might pull in somewhere and I could get a pic, but they kept going on Route 66 the opposite direction that I needed to go.

I suppose so, Don. Battery life has been running about fifteen minutes or a bit more, so there should be plenty of time to get the drone up and get on the tractor. There are a few pre-programmed flight paths, too, that fly away from an initial point along different trajectories that might be interesting. But I've learned to be very careful when using them because this drone doesn't have any collision avoidance features.

I bet you're glad you're done with that work in the attic!
