I wear Wolfsnout gear for lawn work...I wear hand made masks with filters for public travels.
The food truck employees were not wearing required by law mask? Who does the enforcement and is there a fine for non-compliance? Some counties have the face mask requirement but no penalty attached.

I have a wolf snout mask I need to try that is probably better than a cloth bandana, and it's washable with soap and water.

My late wife left me a box of the over the ear accordion style masks, I also have cloth.

My son sent me this picture, it’s exactly like the one I had for years, years ago. Many memories there. IMG_1743.JPG

Flower bed flopped have to try again

   / Good morning!!!! #110,828
My potatoes got wiped out. I took a tarp to everything just the other night again. Weather is not cooperative to gardening just yet. Barn swallows finally showed up today. Been years trying to get rid of them. Place was infested with them when we got here a over a decade ago. Mother nature takes a long time to get discouraged.

I lost some flowers as well to the freezes. Looks like a minimal loss though. We covered them the night it was supposed to freeze, but then we had two more unexpected ones.

Good evening all. 62F for the start, sunny, light breeze. Sunny most of day, Wind cranked up, especially afternoon, high temp was 84F. Bike ride early to miss most of the wind, swept up back porch and side walk then power washes half of the sidewalk, then lost interest in finishing, hopefully enough energy to finish tomorrow.
No change in Cooke county, no change in Grayson and Montague either.
Eric neat PCP stock is beautiful

DJI Mini was delivered before 9am. Label shows it is from California. But tracking says it came from Hong Kong. Already sprayed outside of box with disinfectant. But what could possibly be in box?

Wipe it down with bleach and don't worry about it. The virus can live up to 14 days on plastic, so why take chances?

I'll have to say after wearing mask - for me they are a greater source of contamination. 1. Touch face adjusting mask. 2.Fogs up glasses. 3. One time use as they should be treated as contaminated. 4. Air leakage around edges.

And the effectiveness study showed poor results:

To compare the effectiveness of cotton and surgical masks, a group of patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 coughed into petri dishes while wearing no mask, a surgical mask, and a cotton mask. The mask surfaces were swabbed afterward to assess viral positivity on the mask itself.
The median nasopharyngeal and saliva viral load was 5.66 log copies/mL and 4.00 log copies/mL, respectively. The median viral loads after coughing was 2.56 log copies/mL without a mask, 2.42 log copies/mL with a surgical mask, and 1.85 log copies/mL with a cotton mask. All outer surfaces of the mask were positive for SARS-CoV-2, while most inner surfaces were negative

Cotton, Surgical Masks Less Effective at Blocking Coronavirus Spread

Did they publish results for N95 masks, Don? I don't think even they provide adequate protection. Maybe Jay's spray mask does, but I haven't been able to find enough info in virus particle size to figger it out...

Had a bunch of 'em trying to roost in the front porch a couple years ago. Fifteen minutes with a garden hose ruined their plans, and they haven't been back since.:)

Did they publish results for N95 masks, Don?

They did not.
From the link: "The investigators acknowledged that the test did not include N95 masks and does not reflect the actual infection transmission, and that they didn’t know whether cotton or surgical masks shorten the travel distance of droplets while coughing."

It seems 15 minutes of constant harassment is the magic number to discourage an active swallow, water hose or turbo blower. I have even had success turning the radio on Rush Limbaugh and putting it by the nest under construction and they did not come back.

Good evening, hope everyone had a good day today, sounds like it...

Jay, say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Peg for us. Hope she had a good day and enjoyed the champagne!

RNG, I hope another clue is coming tomorrow....

I did get the debris out of the pond.... x2 today... the wind kicked up big time again. Calm now, should be for a while if I believe the forecast.

Spent most of the day in the shop prepping for the next project. No.... it does not involve any gravel....

It is now time to bed....

I can’t begin to keep up with you guys, but I sure do enjoy reading about it.

Finished this round of mowing today. Of course, I also noticed the area i just finished a couple days ago is ready to hit.

Had a couple of almost cute companions.
Adjustments.JPG

This afternoon I removed the rotary mower and mounted my rototiller. First time on this tractor. Unfortunately about half way thru 1st pass I manage to destroy universal on the pto shaft. 15 yo but hasn’t been used in at least 10. Because I seriously dislike throwing things out, I happen to have 2 pieces of shaft with spline connectors. Cut it to size and it works like a camp, but no slip clutch.

This is an 80x40 area. 2 passes, likely do 2 more

rip,

Sorry to hear about your guys' horse - hope it gets better.

... RS glad you got some good pricing on engine oil. ...
Thanks. Glad to hear the COVID situation is not worsening in your area.

I tried to order some more oil today and the website wouldn't let me. Still on Rollback so there's probably a limit for that, if not generally. No big deal ... the three jugs I got will keep me busy for a while.

Did some inside work earlier in the day and managed to make it outside later in the afternoon. Got sprayer moved over to the house from the pole barn, moved the MMM and Trac Vac over a couple of days ago while getting ready for the diesel delivery. Still need to sharpen and change out the blades on the MMM before it gets used.

Spent a couple of hours getting a start on turning the compost pile and working in the grass clippings from last year. Still a long ways to go on that.

Collected up three of the bluebird houses before I came back to the house. House sparrows had already taken over one and had laid 4 or 5 eggs in it. Still have to retrieve the one down here by the house.

Tractor almost due for an oil change. Today (Saturday) is supposed to be another nice day (partly sunny, high of 63F) so maybe I'll get that done.

Fell asleep on the couch after dinner, just as the PBS Frontline Special on COVID was coming on ... have to see if it re-airs or if it can be watched online.

Pretty much what I've been able to gather about the improvised masks as well. Better than nothing, but not good enough to protect a medical professional in harm's way.

So what does that say about the political leaning of barn swallows, eh?:laughing::laughing:

Good morning. Internet access is sluggish this morning, running a test shows my download speed is only 0.03 Mb/s. My phone on wifi shows the house broadband is fine, but getting to the correct pages on this thread is a challenge that has me beaten, my fingers were not made for small screen use. I can't see any software hogging the wifi on my laptop, maybe it is a hardware problem.

I will have to catch up some other time.
Hope everyone is keeping well

40 right now...high in the lower 60's today. Maybe rain showers this morning and clear this afternoon.
Dump run this morning. Then I'm going to remove and store the snow blower for the season.. I'm going to hook up either the flail mower or the chipper. IIRC, I wrote last week I'll have chores for both implements once the ground is a bit dryer. After that and my stepdaughter gets home from work, we'll do the gutters on the back of the house.
While I'm out for the dump run, this will be a good time to get some diesel for the tractor
