32 and foggy...rain ended and heading to 50.

Nice looking church, Kyle.

Well, did as planned yesterday...roasted coffee (use the metric system for weights and temps) and worked on taxes...used inches if I wanted to measure the stack of papers :).

Wife woke me up at 3:30am after hearing a scream outside near our window...Coco barked, too. She said it sounded like a lady screaming multiple times. Of course it was silent once I got up. I'll look for bodies after it gets light, but no one lives nearby, and we're back too far from the road, so thinking it was wildlife. Maybe a fox, coyote, bobcat or owl. But she was sure spooked.

I friend moved to the country, heard a scream like that one night. Was the neighbors goat.

Good Morning!!!! 50F @ 5:00AM. A mix of clouds and sun. High 66F. Winds light and variable.

All this talk of weights and water has me hoping no one drowns anytime soon. And Eric, my bodyshop neighbor is a nice guy, but he's also the one that almost cut his leg off with a chainsaw last year. Not sure I'd trust him with that loader joystick.

Thanks for the photos, Ron. The cardinal is another bird I miss, and not just their bright red feathers. The song, too.

My money would be on a fox, too, Wng. First time I heard one here was dawn on a summer morning with the sliding glass door open in the master bedroom. Sounded like what I'd imagined a mountain lion scream would sound like, sent the hairs on the back of my neck standing straight up. Sprang out of bed, pistol in hand, and peeked out the door only to see a little gray fox standing 20' away. If a fox can laugh, that one was all but rolling on the ground.

We got the holes augered for the solar array yesterday, and if there's such a thing as the perfect tool for the job, that big backhoe was it. We hit rock several times, and that heavy auger point combined with the down force from the hoe just chewed right through them. But we almost didn't even get started; the extension I'd rented was so beat up it wouldn't fit on either the auger or his drive motor. I had to grind off heavy burs in the hex socket and shaft, wasting his time and my money. The rental was sorry about that, and refunded the rental fee, but my buddy was being paid by the hour to watch me run the grinder and belt sander.

The rails for the solar array showed up right on time, and the driver even helped me get 'em into the shipping container. And the pine in the little pallets the package came on split into some nice kindling while I was waiting on FedEx to show up with the generator. But they never made it, and a call to them revealed it hadn't even been loaded on a truck yesterday. I could'a been cleaning up the dirt around the auger holes, but I didn't want to swap the forks for the bucket on the FEL in case the tractor was needed to unload the generator.:irked:

I did get the van washed, and drove it to return the auger extension, so it's all ready to go camping today. It's our annual No Football campout down in the Sacramento River delta. And as usual, the forecast calls for fog, "heavy at times". But no soggy tent in the morning this time; I'm sleeping on the floor in the van.:D

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

David, I have been following Wroughton Harv ( Harvey's ) thread on another forum where he is building a Barndomininum. For his motorhome and to live in. Some of his comments on self drilling screws got me thinking about your project. View attachment 639586

Good Morning All.

Now that you mention it, I found his new place once also. But he gave his road name and had pics of his land, so he made it easy.

LS has challenged me, have to admit that’s a tough one.

Thanks for the ideas on the screams. Once my wife gets up, I'll play a few on my laptop for her to compare. I've heard foxes, rabbits, and goats scream (when I was disbudding them), but I didn't hear last night's scream, so she will be the judge.

RNG, enjoy your van floor. Since we already know that KC will win Sunday, there's no problem with you skipping the game. Maybe take along some KC Masterpiece and Rice a roni and have your own contest. :)

25° looks frosty out.

Got to get new glass frames straightened, bent already. Then get haircut. Pick up food from VFD fundraiser, then see FIL in hospital. He was moved out of NCCU this week, and yesterday feeding tube removed, he can have soft foods.
Wife mentioned picking up pizza on way home..
That’s a full day, guess I need to get up.

Ron, enjoying the wildlife pics.

Good morning! 37˚F, a dusting of frost and clear skies heading to the high 60s.
Kyle the two best features of that church are the original bell in the tower and the pipe organ. When the bass is played the floor vibrates.
Kyle one of my distant relatives made your local paper when he started a brush fire (probably with gasoline) and severely burned himself. They are looking to amputate his leg.
Ron, thanks for the link to Harvey's thread. He does take on huge projects. Of course without him I would have never thought about building my grange/workshop.

Time to head to the garden and make a fuel run for all the equipment. We will have the big spring clean-up in two weeks.

Wng, I'll put my money on the scream of an owl.

No wonder it looked frosty out. Little light rain we got last night has froze, and freezing fog now.

Good morning. It's 39° and clear this morning with calm winds. Our high is forecast to get to 71° today and 77° tomorrow.

If winds stay calm, I'm going to light another burn pile this morning. There are some cedar trees, near that burn pile, that need removal so ... I can work on them while monitoring the burn pile. The cut down cedars will be the bottom of the next burn pile in same location.

I hooked up my small trailer and went to Katy to pick up a JD Gator which will be one of the prizes for our VFD spring fund raiser raffle.

Kyle ... that's a nice church.

Ron ... great Cardinal picture. Appreciate the link to Harv's projects. I'll read it tonight.

WNG ... peacocks screaming will scare the crap out you if you don't know it's there.

BEF ... glad to hear your FIL is improving.

RNG ... enjoy your camp out.

Don ... sorry about your relative. Gasoline and brush ... don't mix. It's amazing how many ... don't get it?

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Prayers to all.

Good morning to all! Low of 22, going up to mid 50s today.

We have an appointment today at 10:30 to look at a repo shed a local dealer has on his lot. If I can get it for a good price, we might take advantage of a pre-built vs me building one. I do not mind building, rather enjoy it, but time is getting scarce, and Mr. knee complains a lot with all of the activity.

BEF, do you need another hint to the location? It is a private road, 9 five acres parcels (8 have houses), 2 have 2.5 acres. Good luck!
Sounds like you are going to be busy today!

Drew, do you harvest / capture any rainwater to use in the greenhouse? Do you start your seeds in local soil or do you use the peat cubes?

RNG, you were very productive yesterday! Lots of stuff done! Enjoy your well deserved break camping! Those concrete bags will be calling your name.....

WNG, when we first moved out here, there was not a lot of neighbors... one morning I hear this high pitched screaming “HELP....HELP....HELP “
When I looked out in the field, there was this big dog chasing a Jack Rabbit! The rabbit was screaming.... sounded just like “ heeeelllllpppp “.
I am glad the wifey heard / saw the episode, no one would ever believe me.

I started the next woodworking project, I was able to get only one side panel blank glued up. All of my bar clamps were 3-4 ft long. It was a struggle trying to get them on a 12 inch wide board made from 1 3/4 in. wide strips and keep them aligned. Went up to the hardware store and purchased all of their stock of 24 inch 3/4 black pipe. By the time I got back, the first glueup was done being clamped, so took those off and switched all the clamp hardware to the shorter pipe. Out of time.... had dinner.... the next board will have to wait... should be easier, I hope!

Everyone have a great weekend!

LS, I keep getting drawn to the cedar grove area.

When you glue panels do you biscuit them?

WNG & ALL: yep a baby rabbit's scream can sound just like a baby or young child. also a coyote killing a poodle can give off an horrible cry. not saying it wasn't a person your wife heard so maybe you and I and others should work on getting those security or game cameras set up to see what's going on at night outside our homes.

ALL: you don't have to spend $400 to buy an inversion table to fix your back pain or other aches and pains cause good exercises and eating well will help maybe more. the inversion table is one of the easiest methods other than a shot, pill or surgery if exercising or diet is hard to manage. if you find a cheaper inversion table and you will use it the key is that you will and that it's safe.

having a foam roller on the floor can help a ton if you know how to use it. also just doing planks and working on your core muscles will really help your back. i'm about 20 pounds away from seeing my abs, but maybe by my next birthday I can manage that cause carrying extra weight as we get older isn't healthy cause we don't move as fast as when we were younger.

anyway here's to another great day above dirt and it's windy, rainy and 40's here in the great PNW.

One thing I wrote about a week or so back was my tractor battery is dead...I'll try jumping it today, If that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to run down to Lebanon NH and pick up a replacement. We have snow coming in this week and I want to be ready.

Well, the battery did take a charge...tractor started right up!
I'll try the tractor again tomorrow (Sunday) and again Monday...make sure it holds a charge.

If the forecast holds, we're supposed to get a total of 9-10 inches by Friday (spread out over three days).

66°F and .30 inches rain.
Wife a followup lens check in a month, possible replacement.

Got my gussets, will work on carport wx depending.

Prayers for all
Have a great day
Be safe

Thanks Ron. I’ll have to checkin on Harv’s thread. The few self drilling screws I’ve used so far have worked well.

Drew, do you harvest / capture any rainwater to use in the greenhouse? Do you start your seeds in local soil or do you use the peat cubes?

I think I use about a gallon a day to water the greenhouse in early temps, later when hotter maybe a little more.
The answer is no, my greenhouse is awfully tiny though the garden shed next to it could use a rainbarrel on the corner.
Which would mean putting gutters on it. I use a professional propagation mix which is ground very fine, in addition to some Burpee seed starting mix.

This year doing just flowers and no veggies is much easier. I over seed the tray, and then transplant when large enough by breaking the tray apart in small pieces. Later on, close to middle of April, will start direct seeding, all of this going into prior veggie garden. There I have water piped out to garden and can run sprinklers in dry weather. That garden is mostly covered in black plastic with one big open area.
Thankfully local municipal water rates seem reasonable. .09 cents per gallon.
