Good morning!!!!

   / Good morning!!!! #105,261
A hazy moonlit warmer than expected morning low of 5ºF thanks to upper level clouds associated with the pending weather system. It’s presently 14ºF and it started snowing ~1:30PM. I anticipate ~7” of snow with this storm.

Wifey’s Forester’s tires have been looking a little low on pressure, but radial tires always look like that to me. We were leaving our friend’s place last night when the dreaded low pressure idiot light lit up. I was hoping the 7ºF temperature might have messed with one of those valve stem sensors, but this AM the light and the dashboard !!alerts!! led to my hauling up my air compressor from the cellar and fill the tires. According to my pressure gauge 3 were 10#’s light and 1 was 12#’s. Just another nuisance with which to deal along with the normal Saturday morning chores before the snow, but I got everything done and I can kick back.

David- Your rib roast reads to have been a much better meal than the sorry excuse for a cheese steak grinder/sub that I had at the restaurant last night. Last night’s experience reminded Wifey and I why we do not go there.

Billy- I am sorry to read about your MIL. I am happy to read that there were no serious sustained injuries. Falls are serious business in longterm care; so are bruises and skin integrity. I use suet to attract birds. I’ve never made my own mix; now I might.

Randy- I am sorry to read about your Mom. I am happy that both you and Ellen have been prescribed antibiotics for what is ailing you both and hope for a quick recovery. My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for your Mom and you. Nice looking chef’s salad.

Phil- I am as ready as I can realistically be. I already have the vehicles positioned for easier driveway snow management, and the tractor is hooked up to be plugged in tomorrow for the engine block and HST filter preheaters.

Drew- I am sorry to read about your change of plans. The important thing is to regain your health and strength so you can more fully appreciate and enjoy your planned journey once you are in better health. Some places will put a hold on the depost for future use within a reasonable time period. I hope you can get that consideration.

RonJH- I am glad that you are feeling better. Nice pictures of the woodpeckers. I hate to mention “tree rat”, but this year I have yet to see any red ones and only a couple of grey ones. They would always do a number on those suet cakes unless I added some hot sauce. ;). I can see myself seriously damaging hardwood/linoleum floors, fancy rugs, and our rubber roof with my crampons. They have been seeing daily use since I received them.

Buppies- I am sorry to read that you are still dealing with your injuries sustained in your fall. I hope this resolves sooner than later. I wish you a belated happy 43rd anniversary. I wish you both many more in health and happiness.

“Loosing your mother and wife in less than 5 years will affect your mental state for many years. It's a struggle that will affect you when you least expect it. Prayers go out to all that have or are facing loosing either one.”- RonJH

“… While financial retirement is important, the real retirement is of far greater importance.”- Kyle

Ted- That was a really decent video. Great work. You should wear a hat;) A thumbs Up!!!!

I hope that everyone is making the best they can of what is going on in their lives this weekend.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

I don't understand the "better off" conclusion, Don.

A flu shot will protect you from several strains of flu, just not all of them.

In my mind, even a best guess concoction for the flu shot is better than no shot at all, as it offers protection from multiple strains that will be transmitted by people that choose to not to be immunized. And that same article said that even though the shot may not specifically address other strains, it will lessen their effects.

And in spite of old wives tales, flu shots don't give you the flu.

So what's better: being susceptible to every strain of flu out there, or having immunity to the most common two or three?

Having GBS I can’t get the flu shot. Probably because it activates immune system, and I don’t need it to go haywire again.

Took dryer apart, one of rollers is seized and idler pulley not the best shape. When ahead and ordered repair kit with rollers, idler pulley and new belt. Cut my finger on inside edge of the front. Easy to take apart, I never had one apart in the front before, always temp sensors in the back.

Ice event here. Snowed maybe 30 min then has been freezing rain since.

Rain and 39 here, supposed to warm overnight to near 50, before dropping to 32 by late afternoon Sunday. I’m ready for spring, but then I always am.

Ended up with about 7” of snow. Got that all cleared out. Then it started to rain. .5” Everything is now a slushy mess. Temperature has dropped from 40° to 33°. Everything is going to be solid ice by morning. At least I am inside. Warm and dry.

Drew, sorry to hear you still not feeling well. Get some rest and hope Dr finds what is cause you are not feeling well.

Only 30° going to about 38° in the night then dropping below freezing in morning. Lots of ice on the trees. Hope we don’t lose power.

Got 2 racks of ribs in the IP.

Wife just undecorated the Christmas tree.

I don't understand the "better off" conclusion, Don.

It seems like when I get the flu shot I get the flu that season when I don't get the shot I don't get the flu. To be clear, I do not believe the shot causes the flu. The time I got the flu several months after I got the shot several years ago, the dr said that it was the strain not included in the flu shot. It seems that is the only type of flu that ever goes around. I'll probably change my mind if I ever get the flu that the flu shot was suppose to stop. Remember when Doctors said smoking was healthy and diet does not affect heart disease.

Our Shingrix reaction was from the second shot. Neither of us had a reaction to the first shot.

Jay, if you want to make a similar mix for the birds, here's our method
- 1 lb of cornmeal poured into a big mixing bowl (we use Indian Head brand - I think it's a little more coarse and cheap)
- about 24 oz of peanut butter (we use half of a Crunchy Jif jar from Costco)
- one cup of microwave-melted lard poured on top (we buy the 4 lb tub of Armour brand, then use an empty tub to store the mix)
Stir/blend until an even consistency - thick paste-like. Takes a while - it's a good arm workout with a large serving spoon

Enjoy! Oops, I mean birds enjoy!

Which took longer, work on the garage or editing the video?

It is depending on which videos.... this one was not too bad. He is still editing the concrete pour. It was 2 days, 2 pours, so lots of shots. He wants to keep the videos short..... under 10 minutes. That means he is cutting out a bunch of stuff.

Considering the structure is complete, electric done, and today I was spreading gravel in front..... I would say he is waaaayyy behind in the editing :confused2:

I totally agree! When I was working, they had mandatory flu shots. Every time I got one, I felt that little bit sick. It was not until about a month later that I would get REALLY sick. I was always healthy and rarely got sick before having the shots. I declined the shots for the last 5 years and never got sick. Considering that I was exposed to “ sick “ people for 13 hours a day, 4-5 days a week... I do not find it coincidental.
