24 going to 52.

BEF, glad you are getting much better. Nice TV...I'd need 4 eyes to watch one that big. Sorry your dad's farm has gone vegan. :)

Rick, do you remove the cedar stumps, or leave them since it looks like most are next to your oaks? We like our cedars...they provide winter color, as mentioned, plus the birds love them as cover and eat the berries, and they seem to have no ill effect on out other trees...maybe we have enough rain here for them all. Most years one of them comes inside the house to be our Christmas tree. I agree they look great with snow covering them.

Eric, thanks for sharing your hearing aid stories. I don't have/need them now, but can see it in the future and have learned a lot from you.

We had our family Christmas gathering yesterday...great food, fun and family. Our house looks like a wreck. But I gave each couple (son and wife or girlfriend) a Dyson Cyclone V-10 and told them we would have a parade around the house today. I've had mine about 6 months and like it so much I ordered 3 of them on Black Friday from Costco.com. Eric, I only wish Dyson was owned by 3M. :)

Don, I kinda like Whipper's spirit. He has adjusted well.

Thomas, is Peanut a deer?

"Rick, do you remove the cedar stumps, or leave them since it looks like most are next to your oaks?"

I leave cedar stumps about 2' high WNG. I've found that if I leave them for about a year, their roots have started decomposing and I can yank them out with my tree / post puller.

good morning all.
28 going to 55 today in sun and clouds
Making dinner for a friend coming here tonight, need to do very little for that, bought a big chicken pie, just have to bake it, and will also
bake an apple pie for dessert.

I remember selling 32 inch tube Sony's when they came out, the big step up from a 27. Well over a hundred pounds.
Sony also made a 36 towards the end which
was a back breaker. And then tv's got very very light in comparison. Mine are all five to ten year old Samsungs. When I downsize I will need to see
who wants one. Or they wind up in the pile of discarded electronics at the township dump.

Just for nostalgia I kept a laser disc player and use it in my woodshop in the barn, since it also plays CDs. Built like a tank.
Back then Sony made things to last, so did Panasonic/Matsu****a.
This was long before China began to dominate the market. First Japan, then China. RCA, Magnavox, Philco, GE all got left in the dust. Only US electronics folk who survived were the high end builders for audiophile equipment. Tube amps, high end turntables and electrostatic speakers, items ignored by general public due to being seriously expensive.
The kind of stuff we can afford after we sell our tractors...

What I did try yesterday was listening to music. Wow...

Eric, that's wonderful. I really miss the music.

The early plasma "flat screens" were heavy too Drew. Our first was a 51" and it had to be 55-60 lb.

Good Morning Everyone!!!

A mostly cloudy 7ºF for today’s low temperature; an overcast 13ºF presently; and I hope to see a mixed sun/clouds afternoon with high temperature in the upper 30ºF’s maybe even low 40ºF’s. A decent day to manage some snow and pull my tractor’s decrepit front R-1 tires for replacement tomorrow when it will be even warmer.

The usual oatmeal with cinnamon, and honey breakfast. Hot coffee and a hot wood stove are much appreciated this AM.

Eric- Thank you for the hearing aid information. I see a much needed hearing evaluation in my near term future and hearing aids.:(

“Energy conservation is the thing these days.”- Bill My usual mode of operation; especially when temperatures are in the single digits.

“Eric, for those of us with arthritic hands, that phone app sounds great vs. trying to operate tiny controls with stiff hands.”- Drew My hands/fingers/thumbs have seen better days. :(

I hope everyone has the Sunday they anticipated today.

My + thoughts and prayers.

Good Morning and happy first day of Winter! It's 37° here with calm winds and mostly clear sky. High will be about 63° this afternoon. Our highs are forecast to be mid 70's for the next week.

I've got two new burn piles and started building a third one.

I'll put the bucket back on the LS and move this dirt / ash before starting the third burn pile, with cedars on bottom and dead trees on top. I use the dirt to fill root holes from pushing down dead trees.

Eric ... glad your hearing aids are doing well for you.

BEF ... that TV is huge. I saw an 85" at Sam's Club two weeks ago. Our biggest is a 65". Have you considered a wall mount? When we built our homes at the ranch and in Richmond, we had power outlets and satellite TV connection jacks put into the wall up high then installed tilting wall mounts. If you have an AC power outlet, low on the wall, it's not a difficult task to add an outlet directly above it.

Jay ... glad you home safe and "enjoying" snow relocation.

Drew ... Nutria ... think Instant Pot!

Mostly ... congratulations on 6k.

Hope everyone enjoys the balance of your weekend.

Prayers to all.

Jay ... It's primarily used on the 55 HP LS but, I can install it on the 100 HP New Holland as well.

Good morning to all! Low of 26, going to reach for 52, sunny. It was like a spring day yesterday, slight breeze was a little chilly. Much of the same today, then changes tomorrow night and Tuesday.

For some reason, I keep thinking Christmas Eve is tomorrow, I cannot get myself to remember that it is Tuesday and Christmas is on Wednesday.....been this way for a week now.... just one of those things I guess....

Wifey spent the last few days baking all sorts of cookies and pies....smells are phenomenal. I was lucky to be able to stay out of her way..... I was banned from the kitchen and out to the shop....:D:D:thumbsup: I was able to get a lot organized and rearranged.

I would come in about every hour or so and wash the utensils and bowls for her (greatly appreciated) .... also maintained a close quality control on the finished bake goods :licking::licking:

Again, I did not put the BH on and get the trench dug. Son was painting in that area, so I decided just to wait until he was done.... took him all day, so another try is scheduled for today.... I am running out of good weather....

This will be very special holiday ..... my MIL has not seen her other daughter and son ( who still live in the Philadelphia area) for almost 15 years since she moved out here. She has no clue that they are both flying out and staying for Christmas week. She is going to be VERY surprised and I am sure emotional! It has been really hard for the whole family to keep the secret and not slip up during conversations.

Hope everyone is prepared for the holidays! Prayers sent

Drinking last cup of coffee. 23° with mostly clear skies this morning. Heading to 48° with clear skies this morning. Had a great time visit with my aunt at home. She has been in rehab for 3 months. A very happy family gathering with both of my aunts. Put a special walker together for her. U-Step Walker. Sure hope it helps with her falling.
After getting home I went to next door neighbors place to join in their family Christmas party. Visit was mostly for Sassy. She was the hit of party. Made it home by 9:00 pm. I was beat.
GD is coming to clean house today.

No time to go read all the post. Will catch up later today.

Prayers and best wishes for all.

Good Morning All.

That's interesting, Ron. I've never seen that model walker before. It certainly looks impressive.

Watch some football, didn’t realize there were some games yesterday.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

BEF, it must be feeling strange for your dad without any cattle to watch over. Will he be renting the ground out to a neighbour ?
..
No demand for farmland there.

   / Good morning!!!! #103,935
Sorry your dad's farm has gone vegan. :)
Still has lots of deer, coyotes, turkeys, etc.

I know he will miss cows , but he realizes he can’t do it anymore.

Good morning all, not a bad day at all here, no rain and very little wind, just enough to allow the sound of the church bells in town to drift over the fields to me while I was filling the hay racks.

BEF, it must be feeling strange for your dad without any cattle to watch over. Will he be renting the ground out to a neighbour ?

Some specific hearing aid info
For Don and anyone else curious about hearing aids. The model I have is a Starkey Livio i1600. I have 60 days to decide if I want to keep it or try something else. It cost me 」2,300 and has a 4 year warranty. I was guided entirely by my audiologist on which make and model. I think this lady really knows her stuff, she used to train other audiologists before recently working for herself. She is not tied to a single manufacturer and her prices are not much different to online sellers, so I don't mind placing my trust in her instead of going on the ratings in consumer magazines. As well as the quality of the sound and how it fits in/around the ear, there is a lot going on in "digital" hearing aids and how well each model performs can't be determined by reading a data sheet. Information is constantly being transmitted by wireless between each earpiece and clever algorithms use it to process sounds from different directions to try and eliminate unwanted sound and give good spatial awareness to what is heard. I got a confidence boost the first day I came home with the hearing aids on and even with the wind gusting around the buildings above 30 mph, there were no feedback squeals or whistles.

When not in use they stick magnetically into a small docking pod to recharge. They say up to 30 hours of use from each 3.5 hour charge. The charger also has an inbuilt lithium battery which is able to charge them 3 times without needing an ac supply.
Spec wise this model has 16 channels and a frequency response up to 10 kHz. Regarding memories, I don't know the limit Don. The audiologist has set me up with basic ones to get me going of "normal", "music" and "crowd" and said these can be changed and added to after I get more practice. I can cycle between these by pressing a small button from either hearing aid.

The phone app adjusts volume and allows memories to be selected. Multiple custom memories can also be created. I think this uses the "normal" information as a template and then allows it to be modified in lots of different ways. Out of curiosity I had a quick play to prove it it does change the response, however for the next month or so I intend to leave well alone until I am more used to the basics.

For gadget fans, there are other phone options, such as to geotag memories. As your phone GPS identifies your have arrived at, say, home or church, it automatically change the memory accordingly. Haven't tried it and doubt I ever will.

What I did try yesterday was listening to music. Wow...

Eric, amazing stuff 🤙🤙🤙🤙

.

I’ve installed wall mounts at our church building but not at home. It’s my sons tv, he plans to get his own apartment within a year and he will take it. Will be hard to put my 55” back in it’s place. Maybe I’ll upgrade to a 65” then. I really need to remove my old oak entertainment system that sits beside the tv. It still has my turntable and CD player, records, and a drawer with vhs tapes. I keep my security camera dvrs and a monitor where the old tube tv used to reside.

Heading home from worship and eating out with the Sunday gang. Wife got groceries, stopped at orchard for apples and cider.

Nfl football yesterday only on NFL Channel which I don’t get. Did watch some college.

Watched my Buckeyes beat KY in basketball.

Ron, big price on that walker.

LS, I’ve been meaning to trench from my house to barn for years now and haven’t gotten to it.

I have some small cedars I need to pull along my treeline. One big one I should cut. It’s why I don’t have good apples.

Good morning! Yikes, afternoon. It was 36˚F during Whipper's walk in the fog this morning, now it sunny and 52˚F.

Eric it is very important to get a good person to evaluate your hearing and program your hearing aid and it sounds like you found a good one. During your 60 day trial don't be afraid to go back regularly for tweaks. It has to make a big difference in your hearing or they will not be used. Can your wife tell tell the difference? Do you feel like it is less of a chore to understand words? Do they have the ability to connect to t-coil? That is the public places in the US like movie, theaters , conference halls and churches that have the t-coil so you can connect to right to their sound system. Our church has it but I find I do not use it there because the mic there picks up too many sounds and I like my sounds filtered wen using the hearing aid. Just the speech sounds are needed the rest just mumbles the words. I have not tried the t-coil at the movies yet.
