My son just got his 75” tv. Talk about huge. IMG_2559.JPG. Sitting on floor almost as tall as my 55” one on a stand. We were going to replace mine with it, need a board on the stand to hold it, my stand not deep enough.

I ended up with laser surgery on some leaky vessels in that eye, after a solid three hours, he said the floater was likely not serious, and it is better today.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I wish they could blast the obstruction in my eye with some kind of laser. Other than no depth perception and having to be careful with anything to my right it's just a matter of adapting to it. I would really like to be able to weld and do mechanical work but with no depth perception that's a no go.

Good Afternoon Everyone!!!!

An overcast 3ºF for today’s low temperature. A mostly overcast day today with brief periods of hazy sun. Presently an overcast 26ºF; probably close today’s high temperature.

A busy day yesterday. I spent the morning shoveling snow. The afternoon was spent taking Wifey to the Health Center and down to the “Big City” for a visit to the orthopedic surgeon for evaluation during which time I picked up meds and food at the supermarket/pharmacy. Despite the “quick and dirty” x-rays complaints the orthopedist thought that the resetting and casting needed no further work. Today was the dump run and I was able to walk Brogen in the woods as the snowpack is now down to ~6”-8”’s. The snowpack was down to ~~4”- 6”in open areas.

I am definitely Peg’s right hand man at present and have picked up a lot of her daily housekeeping chores and kitchen activities. I am not allowed to go anywhere near the wash, washing machine, and/or dryer.

I forgot to post this before, but Santa gave me an early Christmas present- a plugin tractor seat heater.

“…. Bottom line, we realize that we are indeed fortunate that we can choose to live this lifestyle, and as dear wife likes to remind me if people only knew the struggles that got us here. Maybe it isn’t cheap, but life is good.” David- The “struggle” makes everything achieved more meaningful. There are quite a few + + impacting life stories shared here. That is a really nice cement job.

“….. Drew without parents involved in the education process throwing money will not improve the schools.”- Bruce. The morning low temps definitely got my attention. Once I sucked up the jewels I went into “Winter Mode”

Bill- I’ much prefer to spend Winter as you, excepting CR. Wifey is already talking about another trip somewhere around mud season

Ted- I am really happy the driveway got plowed while we were gone and he did a really decent job. Peg is on oxy’s. They definitely make her loopy. Thankfully she’s pain free. I am probably the only aggravation in her world at present;) Good luck with the trenching and a major congratulations for your Son and a long term career position. His move was a great move in so many ways. Nice canopy paint job and installation.

BEF- Thanks for sharing your good news.

Randy- It’s nice to read how well both yours and Ellen’s families are connecting.

I have floaters; some permanent some not. I also have a wrinkle in one of my retinas. I can usually ignore it except during an eye exam.

“… Eric, the mind will tune out the wife’s voice regardless of the frequency”- BEF There is research to support the oft used male excuse “I did not hear you.”

Check- I really like my electric splitter. It can easily break down 18” firewood 1/4’s into kindling. 2 hours of splitting = 2 month’s of kindling.

I hope the everyone is having a decent day today.
My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

met a new critter today
A nutria crawling out the woods where neighbor's drainage ditch is, walked slowly around and then back to home.
Identified, I'm told, by long thin tail, like pulling a thick piece of rope behind it.

They can make a mess of ditch banks, ponds, etc...

BEF That's one big TV

Jim- It's too bad that you had to adapt rather than have some kind of laser procedure to correct your obstruction.

Nutria Meat. While Nutria meat can be cooked a wide variety of ways it can be on the tough side thus improves with low, moist heat. One common meat it is compared to is rabbit though the taste is closer to dark turkey meat. Raw Nutria meat has more protein per serving than ground beef and is much lower in fat than farm-raised catfish.- internet source.

My Wife's medical expenses including the village Dr bandaging, orthopedic $, and hospital $ totaled ~$1100 (USD). That may be it. My Wife's health plan covers ER visits worldwide. I think her co-pay is $200. I am sure my broken wrist here in the USA cost significantly more.

The snowpack is now down far enough that I can resume some walks with Brognin as the snowpack is now down to ~6”- 8”’s woods, ~4”- 6”in open areas.

Did Costco run this morning, then picked up my new glasses.
Once home I stocked up on pellets on the porch, good for 2 more weeks. Tried to start go kart using the berryman spray in carb. It runs on the spray than stops. Need to remove gas tank and empty, and replace gas line. Not today.

Got son’s 75” tv in place of mine. Found an old oak board in basement just the perfect size, and found a couple small c clamps. Now where to put mine. Already got one that size in basement.

Wife wants to try instant pot tonight with chicken. Need to find recipe.

Txdon, you can extinguish that behaviour very quickly with a product called 撤et Corrector? It is an aerosol spray can that let痴 out a very noisy 塗iss when you push the button, and is about the size of a can of hairspray.

We use it on our Airedale Terrier whenever he lunges at or barks at another dog, or even if he is barking on the deck at the cottage. Very effective.

Thanks, Ill check that out.

Good evening all. 42F this morning, overcast with fog in area, light wind. Saw patches of fog, wind became calm for a while and high temp was 46F. Bike ride this morning, just 2 of us. Still on Trek, passed 6K miles, was cold riding with the moisture. Had 2 hour nap this afternoon :)
Thanks Drew, looks like you had a bit better forecast than us.
Eric sound like you are liking the transition anyway.
Randy, hope your energy meter is up for the festivities.
Ron your aunt sounds like fun.
Don, the biggest problem I have is some of the wood is not sawed parallel, and wants to jump out.
Drew muffins sound yummy.
Hawkeye, great that only took 20 minutes at DOL.
Check, I am finding that try to split wood like I would with wedges is giving me best results.
Buckeye, that is one huge TV.
Jay, good to hear Peg is getting quality help where she wants it :)
Buckeye hate to see bridges abused like that
prayers for all.

Good morning all, not a bad day at all here, no rain and very little wind, just enough to allow the sound of the church bells in town to drift over the fields to me while I was filling the hay racks.

BEF, it must be feeling strange for your dad without any cattle to watch over. Will he be renting the ground out to a neighbour ?

Some specific hearing aid info
For Don and anyone else curious about hearing aids. The model I have is a Starkey Livio i1600. I have 60 days to decide if I want to keep it or try something else. It cost me 」2,300 and has a 4 year warranty. I was guided entirely by my audiologist on which make and model. I think this lady really knows her stuff, she used to train other audiologists before recently working for herself. She is not tied to a single manufacturer and her prices are not much different to online sellers, so I don't mind placing my trust in her instead of going on the ratings in consumer magazines. As well as the quality of the sound and how it fits in/around the ear, there is a lot going on in "digital" hearing aids and how well each model performs can't be determined by reading a data sheet. Information is constantly being transmitted by wireless between each earpiece and clever algorithms use it to process sounds from different directions to try and eliminate unwanted sound and give good spatial awareness to what is heard. I got a confidence boost the first day I came home with the hearing aids on and even with the wind gusting around the buildings above 30 mph, there were no feedback squeals or whistles.

When not in use they stick magnetically into a small docking pod to recharge. They say up to 30 hours of use from each 3.5 hour charge. The charger also has an inbuilt lithium battery which is able to charge them 3 times without needing an ac supply.
Spec wise this model has 16 channels and a frequency response up to 10 kHz. Regarding memories, I don't know the limit Don. The audiologist has set me up with basic ones to get me going of "normal", "music" and "crowd" and said these can be changed and added to after I get more practice. I can cycle between these by pressing a small button from either hearing aid.

The phone app adjusts volume and allows memories to be selected. Multiple custom memories can also be created. I think this uses the "normal" information as a template and then allows it to be modified in lots of different ways. Out of curiosity I had a quick play to prove it it does change the response, however for the next month or so I intend to leave well alone until I am more used to the basics.

For gadget fans, there are other phone options, such as to geotag memories. As your phone GPS identifies your have arrived at, say, home or church, it automatically change the memory accordingly. Haven't tried it and doubt I ever will.

What I did try yesterday was listening to music. Wow...

24 going to 52.

BEF, glad you are getting much better. Nice TV...I'd need 4 eyes to watch one that big. Sorry your dad's farm has gone vegan. :)

Rick, do you remove the cedar stumps, or leave them since it looks like most are next to your oaks? We like our cedars...they provide winter color, as mentioned, plus the birds love them as cover and eat the berries, and they seem to have no ill effect on out other trees...maybe we have enough rain here for them all. Most years one of them comes inside the house to be our Christmas tree. I agree they look great with snow covering them.

Eric, thanks for sharing your hearing aid stories. I don't have/need them now, but can see it in the future and have learned a lot from you.

We had our family Christmas gathering yesterday...great food, fun and family. Our house looks like a wreck. But I gave each couple (son and wife or girlfriend) a Dyson Cyclone V-10 and told them we would have a parade around the house today. I've had mine about 6 months and like it so much I ordered 3 of them on Black Friday from Costco.com. Eric, I only wish Dyson was owned by 3M. :)

Don, I kinda like Whipper's spirit. He has adjusted well.

Thomas, is Peanut a deer?

good morning all.
28 going to 55 today in sun and clouds
Making dinner for a friend coming here tonight, need to do very little for that, bought a big chicken pie, just have to bake it, and will also
bake an apple pie for dessert.

I remember selling 32 inch tube Sony's when they came out, the big step up from a 27. Well over a hundred pounds.
Sony also made a 36 towards the end which
was a back breaker. And then tv's got very very light in comparison. Mine are all five to ten year old Samsungs. When I downsize I will need to see
who wants one. Or they wind up in the pile of discarded electronics at the township dump.

Just for nostalgia I kept a laser disc player and use it in my woodshop in the barn, since it also plays CDs. Built like a tank.
Back then Sony made things to last, so did Panasonic/Matsu****a.
This was long before China began to dominate the market. First Japan, then China. RCA, Magnavox, Philco, GE all got left in the dust. Only US electronics folk who survived were the high end builders for audiophile equipment. Tube amps, high end turntables and electrostatic speakers, items ignored by general public due to being seriously expensive.
The kind of stuff we can afford after we sell our tractors...

What I did try yesterday was listening to music. Wow...

Eric, that's wonderful. I really miss the music.

Good morning,
the temp is 31°F and going to a high of 36. Wind WSW 9 mph. Mostly cloudy.

I am not doing anything today that requires me to drive, so I think you all know what I will be up to.
Energy conservation is the thing these days.

Have a good day all

sounds like a balmy day for you Bill. Enjoy.
Eric, for those of us with arthritic hands, that phone app sounds great vs. trying to operate tiny controls with stiff hands.
