Good Morning all,

Weather is starting off clear and in the high 40's and will be in the mid to high 60s by 11, going to the 70 in the next couple of days, gotta luv SoCal.

Coffee is good this AM, thinking of what I need to do today, probable will have another coffee around the 10 o'clock mark.

Going to attempt another drag with the Land Plane on the driveway this AM, hoping to remove another couple of inches, as I have stated in the Gravel Road Maintenance Thread. Still building a new approach angle in the upper driveway towards the house.

I will install one more vent in the main door to the barn, hoping to get a good air flow but I am thinking I will need install the last two in the smaller door to get enough air to cool down the barn a little when the weather warms up.

After that I need to clean the office and believe it or not I still have boxes full of items from when we moved here five + years ago, it will be like finding some old friends. I uncovered one of mt Amateur Radio Boxes a few days ago, I pulled out my Paddle Keyer, played a few words on the two Paddles and put it back in the box, made me feel good that these things will be out soon.

Ok so my coffee is don't, I need to get out to the Barn and get started.

Thanks for reading and have a GREAT DAY !

Merry Christmas to All !

Good Morning Everyone!!!!!

The maitre de remembered us from our last visit here and we got the royal treatment including special seating to view the sunset, putting 3 waiters, 2 bar tenders on us and himself and a personal introduction with the head chef

Wngsprd- I do not know how you remembered my anniversary better than I. Thanks for the reminder. My Wife thanks you too:cool: We toured the coffee region in a previous visit and I brought back 17 kilos of assorted coffee beans. USA customs were already giving me a hard time due to my activities with livestock and the residue on my boots and then they found the coffee. I think they let me pass just to get rid of me.;)

I tried to, but could not enlarge this sunset picture

Randy and David- Thanks for sharing the pictures of your Dads:cool: The greatest generation. Randy- more + vibes sent your way.

David- Thanks for sharing another beautiful picture of HI. HI is now on our bucket list.

Grev- Good luck with the trucks and creating a crown on your driveway.

Mostly- I hope Scooter recovers quickly

Eric- Good luck with the new and improved Christmas tree stand

Rick- Villa Caletas is in the same general area, but more southward. It's an amazing place. I asked Wifey what this room cost us, but she could not remember ;)

RonJH- Great moon shot for a handheld camera. I am currently working on how to use my iPhone to operate my TGE-6. They are already WIFI linked.

Kyle- I hope that your Daughter continues to improve. Those are weird symptoms :(

Had it not been for the services and sacrifices of the Greatest Generation I/We would not be here in CR enjoying the people and Nature.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers

"Rick- Villa Caletas is in the same general area, but more southward. It's an amazing place. I asked Wifey what this room cost us, but she could not remember ;)"

So you're down closer to Jaco then?? Sounds like a nice area and some very good eating in and around Jaco.

When I put the LED lamps on the van, the headlights didn't improve much. Then I noticed there were metal shields over the lamps. I cut them out and the lighting was very, very good. Found the same problem with the headlight on the touring bike yesterday, and also learned I could separate the reflector from the lens. I did, and was able to pop the shield out without cutting it up. Made a big improvement in the light, but it still seems like the high and low beams are switched, even though all the alignment notches are in the right place. It may be that I need to swap the high and low beam wires on the headlamp socket.:confused2:

Are these Projector type Headlights or Standard Bulb type ?

Projectors really don't have high/low beams, the build put out one light level and a Shield is dropped inlace when low beams are wanted to cut the top of the lights pattern off. This applies to both LED and Halogen Projectors. Not all Projector Housings are designed the same, LEDs and Halogen Projectors need their own designed reflectors to work.

Standard Bulbs are setup to use different voltages to obtain the high/low beam, usually you get two problem with standard bulbs, 1) being wiring sized for the current level required using a relay to control the high/low, and 2) is the proper bulbs, usually more of an LED Problem than incandescent or halogen bulbs.

I quick way to improve your older headlights is to rewire the headlights using two relays controlled by the existing headlight wiring and adding a new fused power wire from the battery to the relay to the headlights AND using a large enough gauge of wire to achieve the correct current flow necessary to burn the headlight at the highest level. The rewiring process is not really hard to do, just more time consuming and although the headlights are burning brighter they will last longer because they aren't starving for power.

With LED Bulbs if they are not oriented correctly, will create a poor light pattern, that is why you need the proper bulb with the correct alignment tabs for your headlight housings. Halogens and Incandescent Bulbs are usually not affected by it except when you get these fancy headlights with special designed reflector.

Funny how things change and still remains the same... more light, more power.

AND last but not least and with Tractors as Vehicles, it is the placement of the light that makes the difference, a lot of light directed to the area you need it works but aim it a little higher than you need to ge the distance and you are burning someone eyeballs out of the head.

So with S82's explanation you have cut out the low beam shield?

19°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 46° today.

No skunk encounter again last night. Guess he changed his schedule. I still haven't put out the trap.

Fantastic pictures this morning. Thanks for sharing.

Rick- We went down to Jaco this AM. Actually Villa Caletas is actually 5 miles north of where you and Wifey stayed.

This is the real deal. Paco was head bobbing and throat extending all morning marking his throne, marking his territory, and soliciting for female companionship in true iguana fashion. And his efforts were rewarded with a female who climbed all over him and rested by his side.

The security door at the walkway entrance to our room. That metal door must weigh ~300#'s

I'm using H4 replacement LED "bulbs" Grev. I chose this particular one because it uses two LEDs instead of one, so there's no fooling around with shutters or solenoids to get the correct position for the high and low beam emitters. They also use heavy copper braid to cool the LEDs instead of a fan, which will work better inside a headlight shell, but still aren't optimal. But they seem OK on an even smaller shell on the other bike, so don't think they'll be a heading issue. The LEDs also draw less current than the incandescents the bike's wiring harness was designed to handle, so relays aren't needed, either. Back in the bad old days of 100W halogen bulbs, I put relays in place to handle the extra current, mainly to save the contacts in the handlebar switches. So there's another advantage to using LEDs. What I haven't done, though, is compare the distance from the adaptor mounting flange to the LEDs to the same distance on an H4 bulb. If they're different, I'll have to make further alterations to get the beam pattern closer to what Bosch intended. So that's on the agenda for today.

Aside from the shield issue, the LEDs were drop ins on the van, and I've had very good results with these particular lamps on another motorcycle as well. But I suspect this batch has been monkeyed with by the manufacturer, and then sold under the same part number/name. My first clue was when the plastic adaptor ring to mount the lamp in the H4 opening in the reflector had to have the three tabs around the edges narrowed and shortened to fit. Easy enough to do, but really shouldn't need to do that, as the H4 standard has been around for years and years. The lamp fits into the center of the adaptor using two cam lock type pins, one wider than the other so only one orientation is possible, but I think they are off by 180°. I tried flipping the adaptor over, but the clip that holds it in place wouldn't reach the retaining hooks, and the slots for the two cam pins don't go all the way through to the other side. That would also have moved the lamp toward the back of the headlight shell, changing the position of the two LEDs, which would also change the beam pattern.

Removing the shield made a big improvement in the pattern, and put a lot more light on the road as well. On low beam, I get a narrow spot. When I flip on the high beam, I get a much broader pattern in closer to the headlamp, and the low beam stays on. I'm now also seeing the cutoffs on the top and sides, but only when that second LED comes on. That is pretty much the opposite of what should be happening. I could reverse the high/low leads on the lamp connector, but I really don't want to alter the factory wiring to fix a problem caused by the LED lamp. So once I get the lamp out, I'll take another look at that adaptor and see what makes the most sense.

That's funny, Jay. The little fence lizards do much the same thing out here. But there's a lot more chasing involved, with the males doing most of the leg work. I have yet to see a pair, er, engaged.

That's not the case with the baboons a motorcycle tour group I'm following encountered in South Africa. Theyve been down there for five weeks, and this is right at the end of their stay. On a boat tour they came across a troop, and every other shot shows a pair having "fun". Kinda surprised Facebook hasn't redacted some of those photos. But no complaints of monkey shines, either, so maybe you could find a boat tour to keep you and the monkeys safely separated.:laughing:

25° and calm' had a dusting of snow this morning, cold night, cold day tomorrow, then warming Friday. Mild weekend, then up and down. Not sure what expect after that.
Dinner with friends tonight, always a good time. Then a run to Tractor Supply for critter foods, got gas, but forgot the Target gift card swap for my grandson. I’ll do it tomorrow so I don’t have to deal with it next week. Need to visit mom as well.

Good evening all. 29F for the start, clear, light wind. Cloud cover like a yo-yo today, cloud up, clear off and repeat, Wind almost moderate, found 1/2 rain from the other day frozen solid. High temp for the day was 51F. Dig coals from ashes and rescue fire, Men's meeting, rebuild fire. Bike ride, walk dog, and conserve energy for rest of day. Wife decided 5 ton electric splitter was in order for Christmas, it is hiding in garage now. Scooter is doing fine , does not like cone, and snapped at wife before he got his pain pill.
Enjoying Dad pics, looking for one of Dad in uniform, haven't found on yet.
Eric win/win you get to play with welder, and wife gets a better tree stand :)
Frank, stay warm.
Drew stay warm and enjoy dinner.
Rick they have cut the rain in forecast for Monday in half already :(
Ron dropped a set of keys by GPS and then could not find them. Had to go to dealer for new fob and reprogram car. Found it a month later when needing GPS again (looking for 6 mo).
Buckeye hope you get through workday with no sleep!
Kyle hope drs get a handle one your daughter's issue
Jay great update, and sunset pic, happy anniversary tomorrow.
prayers for all.

Looking more and more like a white Christmas for you, Bill. Tell you what, if we get any snow headed this way, I'll do my best to reroute it your way instead, OK?

Drizzly rain here all day, but with enough breaks to stay dry picking up the mail and removing some batteries. Surprised a bald eagle roosting in one of the big pines, happy to see him, and hopefully his mate, sticking around here for the winter. Rain doesn't seem to bother the deer at all, and now the bucks are banding up. Four in the back yard yesterday, none older than a year or two, all dumber than posts. Yep, wrong year to not buy a tag...
