Ford Ranger only comes with a 2.3L EcoBoost Engine. A diesel motor is not available.

oops, thanks Don. It still listed for 43K
Will be interesting to see what Ram brings out in a compact truck.

another sunny day high in upper 50's. Cleaning ladies first thing, then annual physical this afternoon.

I let my passport lapse so I need to get all new ID.

38-46 and windy today. A little below normal but tolerable.

I got the Maryland enhanced license in 2018, looked basically just like Real ID version, but I got a letter last spring telling me it would suffice for passports or any federal ID and that I should get my required papers together and get Real ID. So I did.

ahh, you must have keyed in 4WD with the Lariat. I kept waiting to hear about a truck from Kia in 2020 but it looks like it will be a few more years, but I'm glad I got the 2wd 2019 year end Ranger (for a lot less than 43K).

Ron, no seat time yesterday BUT the president of the Gardens e-mail the 300 bed renters last night and told them I'm available this morning for tractor work delivering mulch to their gardens.

Good morning! 48˚F high clouds that have golden tips during sunrise, no fog heading to the 70s.

The county call about some trail blazing in one of their nearby preserves so a group of us from the hiking club will be heading over there next week.

RNG in 1980 I bought a Toyota truck for $100. I could see the street through the floorboard, real airy.

Good Morning!!!! 52F @ 5:15AM. Mostly cloudy. High 62F. Winds light and variable.

Yesterday's starting test on the van didn't go so well, with the voltage once again falling into the 9s. And I inadvertently stumbled onto the three second crank and let off, and it does start in a stumbling sort of way, with the idle yesterday spiking up into the 2000 RPM range for a bit. Not exactly confidence inspiring, but thanks for sharing your CDI experience Jim, which seems to parallel what's going on here. Dug out an old school charger with no fancy electronics, just an amp meter on the face, and put it on to see if it would bring the battery to a higher state of charge. Within an hour, it was only drawing an amp, so I left it on overnight and we'll see what happens this morning. But my guess right now is that all that unattended sitting, and the fact that this is a battery from NAPA, not exactly a first string supplier, will have me shopping for a new battery soon. The Kubota side-by-side needs one as well, so might as well take two birds with one stone while I'm in town today.

Anybody have experience with Duracel car batteries? They make pretty good flashlight batteries, and there's a shop in town having a 20% off sale...

The Vanagon's dash is rather spartan, with no voltmeter and only water temperature and fuel gauges. A while ago I picked up a pair of USB charging outlets that also have a digital volt meter in them, so I mounted one into one of the cutouts I'd made earlier in the dash, and wired it into the switched 12V side of the wiring harness. The response isn't exactly instantaneous, but it is quick enough to show the low voltage when cranking, and will be handy for keeping tabs on the charging system in general.

Most of the smart light switches I've installed are WiFi based, and their signals are pretty robust and reliable, but the few Bluetooth based ones in the garage often drop out. Their supplier, Eve, just released a repeater, so yesterday I installed one in the master bath, which sits on the edge of Bluetooth reception on that side of the house. After some initial fumbling and a firmware update, it seems to be working nicely now.

David was kind enough to offer some backchannel expertise on the latest solar quote, raising my confidence that this time is headed in the right direction and giving me a little peace of mind. Thanks, David, I owe you one!

Slow start to the day, as I'm fasting for some blood work, but it means I'll be in town early. With a little luck I'll get back before dark this time around.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!

Good morning,

What a morning I’m having so many big trucks down boy do I hate internationals. Hope everyone is doing well.

Redneckgeek- I have used Duracell batteries in my truck before I didn’t have an issue. For the price it’s probably a good deal. Lately I have just used whatever was most reasonably priced to be honest. Unless I was needing it for something I would be drawing a lot of juice for then go for a higher rated battery.

Good morning to all! Low was a balmy 38 last night. Had a brief rain shower. Only bad side is it is now windy (what else is new) gusts to 40 today. On the good side, maybe the wind will help to dry things out.

Yesterday’s excursion to Home Depot took longer than expected... but we got all the electric supplies needed. Today we will start using them up.

It’s funny how you start seeing vehicles that have come up in conversations.... while out yesterday, saw 3 different old Ford Rangers, all in great looking conditions. If we were talking about Blazers, would have seen those....

Never knew that Duracell made automotive batteries...never saw them in any stores/shops out here. I’ll have to check for them.

RNG, Ihope you can chase that ignition gremlin out of there!

Well.. off to play electrician... everyone have a great day! Prayers sent out.
