46 degrees this morning for a low and only going up one degree for the high today, and it's raining; may continue most of today and tomorrow. Sorry to hear of so many of you having health problem, like Toppop. Our younger daughter, and granddaughter, are both sick, so it looks as if it'll just be the older daughter and her husband for dinner today at the Golden Corral.

Good morning! 33 now, maybe 39 later. The wind is still blowing.

The wind was really blowing yesterday afternoon just as I was starting to prep stuff for today. Power went out, was out for several hours. So way behind on prep. Did manage to get 1 of 2 side dishes done on the smoker. Used the big generator to run the smoker and hot plate in the garage. Little generator ran select things in the house. So one side will not get done. The 2nd turkey that is to be fried is still not prepped.

But the turkey that needs to be smoked was prepped and is in the smoker!

Everyone have a safe and good day! Don稚 eat too much.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Good morning! 47˚F only getting into the 50s. Today is in-law's in-law's Thanksgiving and our's is tomorrow and last week was with Mom. Today she goes to Thanksgiving with her sister. That leave us with a day to cook for tomorrow. I read about the lettuce also, did any of the sick people actually eat the romain lettuce?

The neighborhood is really nice around here and one of the neighbors invited everyone to her house that did not have plans for Thanksgiving.

Still sore from the last two day's of the hiking club's project of replacing the trail head signs. We replaced 9 signs, and it involved generators, jackhammers, and cement. We had a crew of 4 and worked good together. Kyle and Rick this land north of 35 is nothing like your counties. After a few inches of soil and large rocks then solid limestone, good for clear water but not good for crops or digging holes. I can see why the indians in this area were either good hunters or starved. If any tried to farm it had to be in the floodplain of the river bottoms.

Now I need to pick Meyer lemons from our tree and make a lemon poppyseed cake.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Good Morning!!!! 39F @ 5:00AM. Rain ending this morning. Breaks of sun in the afternoon. High around 50F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 90%.

Woke up yesterday with a scratchy throat and sneezing, it's worse this morning so I'm going to pass on TG dinner with friends. There's a rack of ribs already defrosted in the fridge, so I guess my turkey will have four legs instead of just two, and BBQ sauce instead of gravy. Such is life...

Finished re-routing the heater hoses under the dash, and there's still not enough clearance for the glove box. Turns out that the blower motor for the heater was installed in the wrong place, so now the whole dash has to come out. It's a fiddly job, but one I'm familiar with, and with bad weather on the way for the weekend, I might as well get it done today.

Hope everyone enjoys a happy and delicious Thanksgiving, and takes a moment to appreciate our modern lifestyle, and just how good we've got it.

Good morning and HAPPY THANKSGIVING

We woke up to 9" of snow, an additional 3" expected this morning. Tomorrow has another storm coming in, no estimated of accumulation forcast yet. This storm broke a lot of records for the state.

My middle son and family were supposed to drive up here today for dinner but that might not happen now.

I hope everyone has a safe and pleasurable thanksgiving with friends and family.

Prayers for those needing.

I’m pretty much past the bug, don’t feel great but no other symptoms. Was able to eat dinner last night. Ellen was over it yesterday.
If we had any bad lettuce it was in Arby’s side salads. I don’t remember seeing Romaine in them.
48 now and that’s about all for today. Windy and cold. I’m kidding the mid 60s from the last couple of days.
Just put my Fordhooks on to cook. At least I’ll have one thing I like at the in laws dinner.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

I was wondering how many of you have a navigation system in your car. Our 2017 Ford Escape came with Ford's navigation system and it's been very handy a few times. although not used a lot. It was a window sticker $795 option. And now, after nearly 3 years, I've noticed quite a number of things that have changed, and yesterday the mail brought a letter from Ford saying "A new SYNC 3 Navigation Map Update is available . . . .." It can be ordered on a preloaded USB shipped directly to me for $149, download option for $109 but is expected to take about THREE HOURS to download, or contact your dealer which I plan to do next week. Don't yet know what the dealer would charge to do it.

I had hoped that all that all the Thanksgiving travelers arrived at their destinations safe and sound and without incident; and saddened that some have had to change plans. I hope that everyone who made it to their destinations have a great time celebrating Thanksgiving with friends and family; give thanks for what we have; and have a safe return home. It's interesting weather across the CONUS.

An overcast, windy 36ºF for today's low; 39ºF presently with the sun trying to show itself through the clouds which may also be close to today's high of 41ºF which occurred ~ midnight. I never got the backend snow; some occasional spits. It's really too warm to fire up the wood stove and the wind would not help. Hopefully the winds will die down enough to fire up the Big Green Egg later to smoke that lamb roast and bake rosemary encrusted potatoes.

David- I hope that Sophie's eye surgery went as planned.

"... It is heartbreaking but a fact of life that we humans will probably outlive our pets."- Bill I am sorry to read about your cat :(

RonJH- Thanks for the woodpecker picture. I guess it's a male Downey Woodpecker. I reloaded our suet feeder early this AM and watched the Downey and Hairy queue up patiently waiting for the feeder stations' bully, the Red Bellied woodpecker feast on the new suet.

Rich- You are working under pressure, but it reads like you have everything managed well. Smoking my lamb may be interesting with all the wind.

RNG- I am sorry to read about your change of plans and hope you shake off whatever you have quickly.

My + thoughts and prayers.

The Bimmer I had came with a nav system in the dash, Bird. As you found, the updates to the maps were not free, and I found that the Garmin GPS on the dash, which came with free lifetime map and software upgrades, was more reliable anyway. The time you quote for the download is reasonable, as the map files can run to several gigabytes for the whole of USA. Maybe if you're on good terms with your Ford dealer, they'll update the nav system for free. It's a question that's certainly worth asking.

Bird my 2019 Ranger has Sync-3, so I can help AFTER you down load if you have any questions. I found by using sync-3 with Car Play with my iPhone with Google Maps app to be very accurate and up to date with traffic congestions.

Kia came out with a new nav version for my Stinger a month after I bought the car and they sent out a flash drive free to update after I called and requested one. Even with the flash drive it took 20 minutes to update just like they said it would. The would be cost for the flash drive or the download were about the same as Ford. It looks like a new version comes out every year for KIA but I'll just use car play unless more than the maps are updated.

L4N, sorry about your pet.

38 right now...and, according to the weather report, that's where it's going to stay all day. The report calls for a bit of mixed precipitation this morning.
Since my stepdaughter has to work today, we had our Thanksgiving dinner last evening. Ham was the main course along with mashed and scalloped potatoes, salad...and a few drinks of Jameson whiskey. Nice time! As usual, no body ate too too much and we'll be having ham sandwiches for a week.

Happy Thanksgiving, All!

Glad all have seemed to have had good Thanksgivings so far.

Hope everyone celebrating thanksgiving has a good time, what better day can there be to skip the lettuce.

Traditionally no turkey in this country until Christmas, but that's ok, we have plenty of dry bread left and an abundance of water...

... Or maybe not, this morning's toast is toast - the bread has gone mouldy

Mouldy/moldy rye bread can be hallucinogenic according to some researcher stateside....hopefully the water will get you through to Christmas. :)

I was watching a video on Vox amplifiers' history, and discovered a different term for what we call electronic tubes, you folks refer to them as valves. Did not remember that.

Speaking of electronics, my McIntosh MC2205 stereo amplifier (vintage 1978ish), is in need of some love. Not sure where to start, there is some stuff on the net about replacing some caps and such. Have been told the caps are at the end of their designed life.
Here is one for sale just like it.

Yes Don, I35 is a rough divider between the limestone plateaus and the farmlands. Plenty of limestone quarrys up and down I35 from San Antonio up past Georgetown.

Lemon poppyseed sounds good.

Happy thanksgiving

Got to listen to the song.

And watch the turkey drop

WKRP Turkey Drop - YouTube

Love Alice's Restaurant.

And can you imagine fifty people a day? I said FIFTY people a day
Walkin' in, singin' a bar of "Alice's Restaurant" and walkin' out? Friends
They may think it's a Movement, and that's what it is THE Alices's
Restaurant anti-massacre movement! And all you gotta do to join is to
Sing it the next time it comes around on the guitar
With feelin'
You can get anything you want at Alice's restaurant
You can get anything you want at Alice's restaurant
Walk right in, it's around the back
Just a half a mile from the railroad track
You can get anything you want at Alice's restaurant

So much to be Thankful for.

I told my wife that some of you are without power. We are all electric. If it happens here, we would have to head out for Chinese food.
