Coffee is done brewing. 32° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 36° with cloudy skies. Had a good time with family and a fantastic chicken dinner. I need to get out and enjoy more restaurant eating again. Best part is not leftover turkey sandwiches. Oldest son left yesterday evening. Back to 2 dogs in house. Need to pickup branches and other stuff that got blown around during storm on Wednesday. Back to wearing new glasses. So far they are OK.
Now that I know that bird was a Hairy Woodpecker I was able to find it with a Google search. Thanks for the replies.

Looking, sorry to hear about your cat. Always hard loosing our pets.

LS, horizontal icicles. Must have been a good wind.

Eric, I had to look up moldy bread. Other than compost pile. Throw it away. Even a microwave cannot save it.

RNG, hope the ribs made you feel better.

Bird, never had a nav system in any vehicle. I do like my Gamins. A friend that has a Mercury Mariner. He looks on EBAY and finds a memory stick that is a your old for a cheap price.

Don, looks like a good project putting up signs. Lots of toys (I mean tools) to play with.

Prayers and best wishes for all.

Good Morning All.

Under normal circumstances, Smokie would holler and squawk all the way to the vets', 5 miles. There was not a peep out of her. She knew where she was going and why. She was ready and went peacefully. She is in her coffin and in the deep freezer until spring when I will bury her.
Thanks again for your good thoughts.

I know how badly it hurts and I can’t say thing to help, but I’m counting on that Rainbow Bridge being real.

45 degrees going for a high of 67 forecast for today with a 40 to 80% chance of rain right on through today and tomorrow. We're only getting a light sprinkle right now.

I appreciate everyone's response about the NAV systems. Our daughters say they just use their cell phones. I CAN do that, but I might have to stop and look again before I got to my destination. And my hearing is so bad that I avoid the use of my cell phone as much as possible. The display in my car normally shows a map, current street name and city, speed limit, heading direction, as well as cell phone and audio current settings, so I like it very much. And that pleasant young lady's voice with fully adjustable volume giving me directions as I go is certainly nice.

L4N , you are welcome anytime, but we aren’t home yet. So sorry about your kitty cat. Making that last trip to the vet with them is the hardest thing a responsible pet owner has to do.

We had a great Thanksgiving with wife’s sister and kids in central NYS. Watching the weather closely for our return trip to MD. Sunday is the plan, but our stay may be a bit longer!

Wishing a safe trip to all my fellow travelers

Frank

Good morning! 32 now, may get to 39 later, freezing rain in the forecast for tomorrow. Ugh!

wngsprd - I think you win the award for most Thanksgiving Day drama.....way more than I want to deal with!

After the power came back, I prepped one turkey for the smoker. It sat all night letting the Creole Butter injected marinade work it痴 way through the bird and Creole seasoning on the outside do it痴 magic. Did something different once it was in the smoker, cut a 1/4 stick of butter into patties and laid it on top of the turkey as it smoked.

I should have taken a picture, but didn稚, the bird looked great when it came out. And the taste was amazing. Usually it is a toss up which tastes better, smoked or fried. This year, no contest. The smoked turkey was simply amazing. The fried was good as always, but simply was not in the same league as the smoked turkey.

There was very little left of either one......

Everyone have a safe and good day.

Bird, on my Ford sync-3 the phone can plug into the NAV and appears on the large screen NAV through "Apple Car Play" and the adjustable voice comes over the car speakers really clear and loud. At the same time the phone is charging. Do you have a USB port?

Bird, one fun thing about not updating maps is finding a new section of road. Our sat nav lady starts to say take a left or a right, then a u turn and finally goes into stunned silence once she believes the car is in the middle of a field :)

Even with a fresh, free update, Eric, my Garmin has tried to send me down a boat ramp, up someone's driveway, to the top of a mountain so I could use the cul-de-sac there to turn around, to someone's house that it thought was a BBQ restaurant, through a dry wash to get back to the main highway, and has many times told me the place where I was going was on the right, when in reality it was on the left (or vice versa). And I always turn the voice off when using a GPS or phone based navigation. I don't like being nagged.

So our guests think we are jinxed, since about 5 years ago our refrigerator died on Thanksgiving day while they visited.

...

Or, can I just come over and stay with one of you? :)

I'd be more inclined to not invite those jinxed guests back.

You're welcome here; one advantage to being sick on T-Day is it was pretty quiet with just me and the TV...

Good Morning!!!! 35F @ 7:00AM. Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 49F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph.

Thanks for the ID guides on the Hairy/Downey woodpeckers, Don. There are several of one or the other here, and they play tag with each other and make all kinds of racket with their calls.

Sounds like you all had some wonderful food yesterday! Nope no one got a tummy ache, especially you and yours, Randy!

Smoked the ribs on the BBQ for about five hours, and yes, with the cool temps, it was tough keeping the temperature right. They came out nice and tender, but with just a bit of char when there was a flare up when I was basting 'em with sauce at the end. Two bags of leftovers for later, too. No way I can eat a whole rack these days.

If memory serves me correctly, I had to remove a mix of twenty something screws and bolts to get the dash off yesterday, and though I was able to get better routing for the heater hoses and cut down on a lot of electrical wire clutter, there remain some interference issues when trying to install the glove box. I'm still glad I went to the trouble though, as I also found that some of those fasteners hadn't been tightened properly. That shouldn't have come as a surprise, considering past experience. Anyway, I have a few ideas to try out on the glovebox today, and some new information on what might be causing the hard cold start problem, too.

TGIF gang!:drink:

It was a mixed sun/cloud breezy 25ºF for today’s low; a mixed sun/clouds 29ºF presently which is probably close to today’s high temperature. I anticipate increasing sunshine and reducing wind later today. I have never used the BGE in winds like yesterday’s before. I had to start the chimney charcoal starter in the Egg with the lid down and fully vented, but once the charcoal started it was cooking as usual. The lamb and potatoes came out great.

Thanks for the clarification on the woodpeckers. I did not know/remember the differences in beak lengths.

RIP Smokey :( Bill- It’s never easy helping a beloved pet transition to a better place. :(

Billy- I am happy to read that you pulled dinner for 11 off successfully. I am sorry to read about Coco and the resultant drama. I hope that her puncture wound only requires a good cleaning and some antibiotic ointment. Good luck with her and the “hurt feelings.”

“I know how badly it hurts and I can’t say thing to help, but I’m counting on that Rainbow Bridge being real.”- Randy

Frank- I am happy to read that your trip to NYS went well and that you had a great Thanksgiving. This next weather system bears watching. This pending system may become a 3 day event.

Rich- It reads like great eats was had by all. I have never eaten fried turkey (yet). “I should have taken a picture, but didn’t”- I resemble that remark :embarrassed:

RNG- I hope that you are feeling better.

I hope that everyone who did over-indulge during Thanksgiving recovers quickly.

My + thoughts and prayers

35 going to 51.

LFN, sorry to hear about your cat. Hope you will get another soon.

Get well, RNG!

LS, thanks for sharing those cool snow pix.

We had 11 at our house for dinner...went well until the oven started dying before all was cooked. Its temp dropped and wouldn't stay above 222. Quick reboot, and read of the owner's manual didn't help. I always write the date acquired, price, and where bought on the front of the owners manual...ironic that the purchase date was exactly 3 years before. I didn't check the warranty yet, but could it be 3 years? So our guests think we are jinxed, since about 5 years ago our refrigerator died on Thanksgiving day while they visited.

I finished cooking everything (3 casseroles, turkey, salmon) on the outdoors grill...but the wind and cold made it hard to keep the heat constant.

Then one of the guest dogs attacked Coco and left a deep tooth puncture on top of her head. Coco is big (85 lbs) but is all bark and growl, not a dog fighter. Cleaned wound, but I don't think it looks too good this morning, so think a visit to vet this morning is wise. One of the other guests insulted the dog owner, so we also have some feelings to deal with today.

Or, can I just come over and stay with one of you? :)

Come on down. Bring Coco to swim, we have a great pond, but no mountains to hike on. Hope Coco's head wound heals fast. Sorry about your oven and guests' feelings. There are some dog breeds I have very little sympathy for.

Eric- can't bury it just yet. Too many memories. It's been with me since I was 20 yo, through all the thick and thin, used at college parties, Christmas parties, and like my brother used to say, "Turn it up and drive the roaches out of the house"...Your clouds must have come to us.

Sorry about all the oven problems. The smoked Turkey sounds great!

We had 12, should've been 14, but 2 weren't able to make it.

Repaired my autistic daughter's bicycle yesterday morning. It had a flat front tire/tyre and I had a new inner tube on the shelf, so I got her going again. Much easier to change out a bicycle tire than a tractor flat...

Taking her to my mom's today for a cupcake baking lesson.

Coffee tastes great this am. Intermittent showers. Cloudy and cool 52F, but a warm front coming and getting up to 71F later.

Good morning to all! Low was only 34 last night, actually went up to that after being in the upper 20's all day. Now it is really foggy with all the snow on the ground and the temp now at 36.

The next storm is approaching with a cold front...so....the snow will freeze over, get some fresh snow on top (1-3"), then turn to rain this afternoon, then freeze again tonight.... This should prove to be very interesting

Today does not include any shopping... Thank goodness! Watching the crowds waiting in lines on TV news is enough for us. Online shopping and delivery to home works well!

I 'm going to try and set up the new generator today. Not too much to assemble, but they recommend a 4-5 hour "break in" period varying the load. First time I have heard of needing to break in a generator. They did send a bottle of break-in oil, and specify changing the oil to synthetic after the break-in run.

Maybe grease the tractor while I run the genny, I've been procrastinating on greasing it....why I don't know....

All the talk of navigation systems... I must be old and set in my ways....maybe just old school....either use a map if it's out of the area or look up direcrations beforehand. We used CAD navigation at work, but as soon as I would leave work, it was back to "old school".
Maybe that's why....association with work....

Still having the computer issues....new one arrives next week. I hope I keep my sanity until then....

Everyone have a great, or at least, a better day!

Prayers sent for all.
