Burn your stove hot and don't try burning green wood and you will have no problem with cresote. Potato skins will do the same thing.

....so does burning aluminum cans . . . .

Around here you can’t burn the stove hot all day, everyday, not cold enough, I didn’t burn green wood either, I was raised with wood and coal stoves, so their operation is no mystery to me.

As for potato peels and aluminum cans, burning a chunk of styrofoam will also clean it like new. The latter two are quite toxic though.

I wonder if the bag of magnesium shavings (I have) will do anything? I've been saving them for a "Gandolf" bonfire...

partly successful morning. Podiatrist says he's done with me, slow heal from now on out.
Then went to Garden Club meeting, and had to leave 20 minutes later, thought my head would fall off,
tinnitus went crazy from live room, low ceiling and 30 women all talking at once.
Felt like a drum going off in my ear, just had to go outside, and it promptly subsided, but left me with headache
and determination to get steroids injected in that ear. So I made my excuses and left, but only a few minutes before President came over and saw my face and
asked if I was alright. No...so she understands.
But I did snag all my Dutch bulbs I ordered, and have a nice selection of them to plant, tulips, crocuses, daffodils.
Windy and raw out now, despite sun, going to wait until mid afternoon and then go plant some bulbs.
Thankfully a quiet operation.

I looked at the older lady at the podiatrist today with hugely swollen ankle and all kinds of issues,
was thankful I have what I have.

I might try to start the 1968 Cub Cadet today. I'm sure the points are stuck.
Really need to sell that, in very good condition, let it be someone else's winter project or
project to do with grandchildren. Deck is in a million pieces but it's all there, in plastic bins, waiting for
a motivated person. I mowed with it so I know it works, just sure didn't need another mower, much less one 51 years old.
It is definitely on my sell list. I'm doing pretty well so far, down two tractors and a chipper, now need to work on little stuff.

I also have a very low hour Ariens walk behind mower I would give someone for free. Drive belt won't stay on, plus with marvelous Kawasaki
single engine, with oil filter, it is heavy as can be and was not the ditch mower I needed. Plus after it stopped for the third time, and a warranty shop and a buddy
couldn't get it to work, I gave up on it. I bought it because I thought it was the heaviest duty thing out there. Turns out the cheapest, most lightweight mower was what I needed. One of a few items I have "collected" along the way which really need to go to happier homes. If any of you guys within driving distance of me want to come get it, I might send you home with a few more things. Bring a truck...;)

ear is much better now, what a relief. Those women just yapped me out of there....:D

Drew, the guy on the radio down here raves about some small tiny earbuds that use bluetooth technology. They can cut out the loud room chatter at a dinner table he says. And he can talk on his phone with them, and his tv is setup with them too. Basically, they are modern hearing aids.

Batteries installed and system running great

Looks great David.

Yes, prayers and remembrance for our vets.

Had to wear long johns to the football game last night. My knees still got cold. Aluminum bleachers suck the heat out of you like a peltier's heat sink.

Went to a company party today after steam train. Plenty of food. Had some chicken/sausage gumbo, and many other items.

I regret, that I only have one appetite to feed.

Steam train was AWESOME!!! Hundreds if not thousands showed up in Hearne Texas. Videos and photos are cool. But you have to see it live to really experience it. I took my 9 year old son to make lifetime memories.

Cold as Heck snap coming next week.

Need more firewood if it lasts.

Got all my chores done today...a rarity in my world!
Tomorrow, I'll put out the driveway markers/reflectors. Forecast is for 6-8 inches Monday evening into Tuesday. I neglected to put them out last year and almost stayed on parts of the drive....don't want to make that mistake this year!
I picked up some fender washers to replace those that pulled threw the rubber cutting edge of my front blade. I only need to replace those on the outer edges of the cutting edge...and I'll put three instead of just the one on each bolt. That should give it more strength. Optimally, an eighth to a quarter inch thick bar across the full width of the blade would be a better way to go. That project might have to wait until warmer weather.

Good evening all. 40F for the start, clear, light breeze. Wind stayed light, sky stayed clear, and high temp was 71F. Little brother came in from visiting sis in Austin, last evening, got caught in I35W traffic jam. Truck was carrying large propane tanks looked like 250 or 500 Gal. tanks and they caught on fire, what a mess. We visited took a short walk took some pics (and had Scooter along, on dog sitting duty :) ) No bike bike ride, brother left but still had dog till 1:40 and was totally out of mood and watching gladiator on TV. Did pretty much finish storm door, handle assembly issues resolved, finished mounting closures, am getting squeak from door now and closers don't close door. No nap today. Big Boy was never closer than 3 1/2 trip did not work with everyone's schedule.
Roy hope your next training session goes better, prayers for your SD
Eric have fun with grandkids hope nappys are not too nasty!!
Rick, nice pics
PJ hope concert and Dr visit went well.

Buckeye nice to hear you got cable run inspite of obstacles, how id your endurance coming along?
Ron nice pic of your GGD.
Drew good luck with your mice problem. nice pics
Kyle, very nice pic. I would be afraid mag chips would overheat a wood stove.
prayers for all

Nice pics everyone!

Got to 25 around 3, but up to 31 now, looks like 60 later.

Went to the dinner last night, which was a delayed wedding reception and sat with the father of the bride, great guy, good conversation. I didn’t know a soul when I got there, but felt like family when we left.

Went to see mom yesterday and she was on top of her game, telling jokes, laughing and eating like a horse. She told Ellen thank you, for taking care of her baby, You just never know.

Church and more visits, MIL is having cake and ice cream at the nursing home where she, Ellen’s mentally challenged sister who just moved there from home a couple of weeks ago, and her dad is rehabbing from heart surgery. So everyone is meeting there to party.

Have a good day folks, God bless us everyone.

cold morning to start, well below freezing but sunny and low sixties today. If wind isn't too bad, I'll
get my bulbs planted. Will also go plant some extra daffodils at friend's home down by Pamlico River.
Soil is awful, about 90 percent sand, but she is slowly adding bags of dark dirt in the garden area. Every five years or so the whole place floods and
the garden dirt winds up in the River, so only so much I can accomplish here.

David, how long will that battery bank power your inverters if nothing else is on?
anything you can't run on them? Welders?....

somehow we need to make solar and wind power cheaper, more attractive and easy to install.
Of course if both our hot water heaters come on and the swimming pool pump is on and the hvac is on...
sure get dependent upon our juice.

vacuuming a string leader, brilliant. Plus the vacuum might pull the string around a corner more easily.

time to make some breakfast, probably eggs and turkey sausage, and I'll chop up my last green pepper picked yesterday to go in the eggs.

Good morning.

29 and going to a high of 32 °F. Wind SSW 21 gusting to 32 mph. One one hand they say 'flurries' and the other says snow squall warning. Looks like we can expect another 6" today. This is a good thing.

jbrumberg; Jeep is building pickups again. 4 doors and a pickup box, what is not to like?
I suggested to the DIL that I trade the Dodge in on a new Jeep. She suggested that IF I liked the twins where they are that I would NOT trade 'her' Dodge in. I bought the Dodge, insure it, plate it, fuel it, maintain it and drive it, yet it is 'her' Dodge.

Have a good day all

27 right now...high in the mid-40's today
I listed today's chores in post 101824, but here's a recap:
I'll put out the driveway markers/reflectors.

32 and pretty red sky a bit ago...going to 61.

Kyle - cool you took your son to see that train. I'd travel to see one if anywhere near here. Seems like the Roanoke or the Baltimore museums are the best bet for old engines. There is one in a park in Richmond, but not so impressive as "yours."

Harvested the last of our jalapenos a couple of days ago, and had some sliced into a nice omelet yesterday...great flavor and not too hot. Forgot to say the Tex-Mex we had Friday marinated their chicken in Shiner Bock. Then my wife made a nice pot of chicken vegetable soup...forgot the pic, but didn't forget to eat last night with a chunk of sourdough bread.

Took me until dark to cut down the big (10") dogwood, and the sugar maple (26"). Didn't start until after 10am, after watching a nice 6 point buck wandering around our field on a doe trail. Didn't take any breaks, except for getting the zero turn out to mow the weeds that were growing around them, and throwing the Frisbee a few times. Much of the time was picking up dead branches that broke into a thousand pieces when the trees fell over. Still have some rounds on the ground until I'm ready to bring them to the splitter. All the small logs are already stacked and ready to burn (burned some last night). So now have a nice spot to plant the deodar today. Sore this morning.

26F clear sky low 40's for high.

Outside chores are done E muffin time. :licking:
Not much plan for today...Checking game cams, hope what little snow left will melt for last blowing of leaves, put side walk wood threads down and dig out snow shovels, maybe watch little football nascar.

Enjoy the day all.

Need to pour second cup of coffee. 30° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 41° with rain and possible snow. Yesterday's swimming event was good. But to long and my tinnitus did like all the yelling, whistling and cheering going on during each race. It was almost 7pm when we got home. Dogs were not happy. Hope to get some leaf mulching done today if rain and snow stay away. Then some NASCAR.

Kyle, great photos of trains.

Mostly, like you photos. I second picture your place?

Randy, my visits with my Mom at the nursings home were always good. There was always that one comment that was going to remind me why she was there. Smile and it's time to go home.

Don, lizard waking is a new experience you can add to your resume.

Drew, install a Progressive Industries EMS-HW30C. I will display the info you want and protect you RV from other bad voltages.

Roy, I am trying a new approach for early snow this year. Do not have the front blade on tractor or snowblower on mower. Hope the forcast 3" is correct. I can shovel that off the walkways easily.

Jay, looks like the cold and snow will hit southeast Michigan Monday and Tuesday. With lows in single digits on Tuesday. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Prayers and best wishes to all.

Good Morning All.

crank up the woodstoves men, Winter is knocking on your door.

Ron, thanks. Allegedly the rv has a built in surge protector, Dynamax throws in some nice extras, plus I have used this from
the very beginning with first rv. Having owned a Radio Shack, I am a major fan boy for surge protectors.
It's not just the one killer surge, it's the repetitive smaller ones that can make components fail.
We are very much on the same page, thanks.
Progressive Industries SSP-3X

I don't lock it so someday someone is likely to steal it, but kind of hard to do that since I'm in the rv just about all the time.
Like coming out and finding someone stealing your bicycle. Usually the threat of calling 911 will get them moving.
I actually had that happen to me in The City of Brotherly Love, drug addict trying to steal my wife's bicycle, which stupidly we had exposed on the front deck of our boat.
I suppose I could put a simple lock on it this surge protector, just one more key to lose. But since I'm going all around the country, might be interesting
to see where it gets stolen... Might have a little pool on this...;) Las Vegas? LA? San Francisco? Fort Worth? Albuquerque? New Orleans? or some little town along the highway where I just am in the right place at the wrong time.
Though I'm not sure that is worth 120 bucks worth of entertainment...
Most thieves have bolt cutters so not sure what typical chain lock will do, plus you have to
find something sturdy to attach to.

/ Good morning!!!! #101,838
Good morning. It's 43° and clear this morning with expected high to be 77° this afternoon.

Our VFD Chili Cookoff Fund Raiser was a great success last evening with an excellent turnout of neighbors. The Chili was great on a fairly cool evening. The live / silent auction and several raffles raised a lot of money to help fund the construction of our future new Fire Hall / Community Center.

Plan for today is to cleanup and level the areas where the four burn piles I ignited last week were. Three burned to nothing but piles of ash, one has a couple of short unburned logs. I'll grab the unburned stuff with FEL bucket and drop them in the fire pit down at the shop. If winds stay down I'm going to get another burn pile going this afternoon.

Tomorrow will be our last warm afternoon (77°) for a while and it forecast to be just below freezing Tuesday morning with the oncoming cold front.

Today marks the 244th Anniversary of the formation of the US Marine Corps. Marines ... thanks for your service! If you're not a Marine ... thank one.

Hope everyone has an excellent Sunday.

Prayers to all.

Actually, upon reflection, I have to add St. Louis to that list.
Apparently there are few criminal elements in that area and I'll be right across the river looking up at the monument.

/ Good morning!!!! #101,840
I wish the local fire company here did a chili cookoff. They don't bring the community in at all, little rural VFD, which I contribute
generously to each year. Same with local ambulance corps. Now I'm waiting for them to have a big feed and invite me.
Pancake breakfasts are too much sugar and carbs for me in the morning, bad mid morning crash after eating pancakes, but give me a blueberry
or strawberry pancake and I'll take the risk. Not the plain stuff.
Back in PA local VFD would sell hoagies and the moms could drive through in their expensive SUVs and never have to get out of the car.
Anything you can drive thru seems to do well...

Don, you sound like you are having a great deal of fun. And busy as you want to be.
I hope your wife enjoys it too.

Jay and Roy, you two particularly, be careful in the snow. Visions of Jay being dragged down a snowy street by
that enormous dog, hopefully on a bob sled. Mush. Mush.
