Good Morning!!!! 54F @ 6:15AM. Sunny. High near 70F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.
Thanks for posting the conductor size calculator. The longest run will be 250', and with 1/0 copper, that's a 5% voltage drop. 240V -> 220V. Is that OK? I dunno... More homework needed.
There are hog problems in CA as well. Haven't seen any evidence of them in this area, though. Hunting is OK all year round, but I'm pretty sure you need a hunting license, and that means hunter safety training. Not a bad thing in my mind.
The No Trespassing sign I had up on the front gate was so badly faded the letters were all but gone. Yesterday I fired up the stencil cutter and made new stick on letters in black vinyl, so it'll be interesting to see how long that lasts. Punched a few more holes for zip ties, too, which get brittle in the sun and break.
The Kincaid Fire doubled in size overnight to 54,000 acres, with containment dropping to 5%. The winds should moderate somewhat today, so hopefully the rate of spread should drop. It's coming up against US101 on the west side, and hopefully firefighters can keep it from crossing. It's already started spot fires in Windsor, a fairly large community north of Santa Rosa. One of the local TV stations is posting links to a
pretty good map showing evacuation zones, fire perimeter, and MODIS satellite data. The MODIS data is updated a few times a day, so it's the best indicator I've found of current fire activity.
The winds caused power lines to fall in several places locally, but no fires because the power was off. One fire was reported in a home where the owner was back feeding his generator through a 110V outlet. It was quickly extinguished. No reports of problems with CO, yet. A new CO detector was delivered last week, so I'll try to find time today to get it installed in the alarm system. PG&E is forecasting more PSPSs starting Tuesday, and said power may not come on today in all areas. That turns out to be the case, it would make this the longest outage yet at four days.
Went to make a phone call yesterday and found the land line down. AT&T's website trouble reporting page wasn't working, but I caught a good moment when the cell reception was, and was able to report the outage. It was working again when I got up this morning. I don't know what I'd have done had the cell reception been bad, as it is this morning.:confused2: Ov course, there was no notification of any kind from AT&T of the repair.:muttering:
The veneer of civilization is very thin.
The shipping container is supposed to be delivered today. That should be interesting.
Hope everyone's week gets off to a good start.
