Good morning!!!!

   / Good morning!!!! #101,172
Once upon a time I lived aboard a boat in South Florida for three years in the 90's.
Hot hot hot all the time. Bet it's even hotter now.
After I sell the farm, for a hundred grand I could buy a big old motoryacht and live aboard in the Outer Bahamas.
Rum and the baking sun instead of arthritis meds...;)
It's during Winter I think of these things, a recurring seasonal event.

and I would get that job with the local resort driving an old Ford with turf tires up and down
the 6 mile long white powder sand beach pulling a chain link drag.
Canopy on top, bright blue water and the sound of the surf a constant companion.
And while the sun is hot hot hot, the breeze off the ocean takes all the heat away.

ok, who wants to sign up? It's a big beach...

Sounds like a dream come true, Drew. But I dunno. Do you snore? Sharing a boat would put a coupl'a fellers in pretty close auditory company...

679°F and .01 inches rain.

Interesting and informative trip to the military training area yesterday. A real asset not only for the military but to the island for their conservation programs and economic impact.

Low point of the day had to be driving thru the Mauna Kea protesters shanty town. While I support their right to protest. I totally disagree with their message and method of delivery. They talk desecration from the telescopes but in reality their shanty town is the real desecration.

The new, propane generator is in place, wired to the transfer switch and operating perfectly. I do have the end panel to reinstall.

May get started on the servicing of the military generator before football.

Hand and Foot later, hopefully the guys can make a comeback.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Good Morning!!!! 53F @ 9:00AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 72F. Winds NNE at 10 to 20 mph. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.
We're still under a Red Flag Warning, likely through Monday. Winds were calm here until 8 o'clock last night, then roared all night. Metal cover on the porch rattled and banged, didn't get much sleep.

A mattock is a very handy tool in the hard round around here, Eric. Definitely one of those tools best used in cooler weather, though.

Great photos, guys! Love the colors and the "reach out and touch" lens.

I'll give that link a shot, Jay. But I've run up against ampacity before, and never made it through to the other side. Back in my computer programmer days, a company called O'Reilly wrote a series of primers they called Nutshell books. I wonder if there's one of those for household electricity. I've also got a bookshelf full of Time Life how-to books, and there are two devoted to electricity. I think I know what I'll be doing later...

Sounds like the owner of the Toyota dealership will be getting more customer feedback soon, David. Hopefully it'll do some good, especially in terms of the Service Manager's attitude toward fairness.

Hope things are still OK with your sister, Drew. 180,000 have been ordered to evacuate in Sonoma county, and a 90 MPH wind gust was recorded yesterday in Healdsburg. So far it doesn't look like the fire's crossed US101 yet, and with winds from the north, maybe it won't before they die down again tonight.

Real nice gathering here last Thursday evening with three friends dropping by on their motorcycles for a meal and a bed. Well, a place to sleep, as there's only one bed in the guest room. The odd man out got a spot on the carpet, the consolation prize winner got the couch. The tri-tip came out wonderfully, one fella brought a bottle of Scotch that was new to me, which inspired a Scotch tasting that was well enjoyed by all. I thought they'd all sleep soundly, and the one with the big snore did, but not sure the others appreciated it much.

Very nice ride over to the coast, too, with good suggestions on routing turning up a nice putt along the south side of Clear Lake, and a twisty romp over the coast range on CA175, a new one for me that is hilly with very tight corners. Got a real eyeful from a high south facing ridge of the smoke cloud from the Kincade Fire, it was HUGE! The bike ran great with oil consumption continuing to decline. Rode to dinner at a restaurant at the local harbor for so-so scallops, which may have been fresh, but the cook never heard of spice of any sort, not even on what were called garlic mashed potatoes. The ride back to the KOA was in the dark, first time I've needed the lights on that machine, and there's some alignment to do, but there was plenty there to light up the night.

All during this time, PG&E kept pestering with emails, phone calls, and text messages that they might be shutting the power off in 48 hours, then 36, then 24 hours, with the last 12 hour warning coming in at breakfast as we left a very good restaurant Saturday morning. I'd already packed up camp in anticipation of that, and made it back over much the same route by 3PM, the announced blackout time. Power was still on, and remained so until 6PM, so I ran the A/C and took a short nap and caught a shower before things went dark. The generator fired right up as usual (funny how now there's nothing unusual about an electricity interruption), finished the show I was watching on TV, then went to bed, which is a LOT more comfortable than the one in the tent.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!

That’s a serious looking edge, Eric

Jay, I did mention to wife how a tie rod “could” be damaged like it was but was met with immediate denial of any such action on her part so I reassured her I was only speaking hypothetically, not accusing. Changed the subject.

Kyle, there was a court case re the soybased wire insulation used in Toyotas. Lost.

Mattock is one of my favorite digging tools. I’m no longer a fan of edging material of any kind.

Heavy rain this morning, now sunny.

David, I'm just impressed by what you know. It sounds like you got your EE home schooled.

heading downtown early tomorrow to local Napa and see if they will make me a custom 30amp rv cable,
65 feet long, minimum 10 gauge, preferably 8 gauge.
They normally just do hydraulics but they have a do it all attitude so I'll give them a try.

Using the chart and calculator from;

jbrumberg

Re: Good morning!!!!
RNG- I hope this helps. This stuff is totally incomprehensible to me: American Wire Gauge Chart and AWG Electrical Current Load Limits table with ampacities, wire sizes, skin depth frequencies and wire breaking strength

with 65 feet of length;

at 30 amps load on #10 wire you would have a 4 volt drop in voltage,
at 20 amps load on #10 wire you would have a 2.67 volt drop in voltage,
at 10 amps load on #10 wire you would have a 1.35 volt drop in voltage,

at 30 amps load on #8 wire you would have a 2.52 volt drop in voltage,
at 20 amps load on #8 wire you would have a 1.68 volt drop in voltage,
at 10 amps load on #8 wire you would have a 0.84 volt drop in voltage,

at 30 amps load on #6 wire you would have a 1.58 volt drop in voltage,
at 20 amps load on #6 wire you would have a 1.06 volt drop in voltage,
at 10 amps load on #6 wire you would have a 0.53 volt drop in voltage,

Thomas- I have yet to hear/see migrating geese around here, but I am seeing increased #'s of slate backed juncos.

RonJH- It saddens me that expensive unused medications must be destroyed rather than re-prescribed. Years ago I was involved with the destruction of $1000's of dollars worth of medications with the opening of a secure, longterm care facility because of stupid MA prescribed medication regulations. All the meds were flushed down the toilet. I was surprised that there was no fish kill downstream.

Rick- I've seen a couple of TV shows about feral hogs, the extensive damage that they do, how smart they are, and how they can outsmart most attempts at capture and how aggressive they can become. Good luck.

RNG- Good luck with the power cable and the PG&E BS. I hope that you remain out of harm's way. I used to like scotch. I do know why my tastes changed; probably a forgotten - memory.

"A low point of the day had to be driving thru the Mauna Kea protesters shanty town. While I support their right to protest. I totally disagree with their message and method of delivery. They talk desecration from the telescopes but in reality their shanty town is the real desecration."- David. I agree. "I did mention to wife how a tie rod could be damaged like it was but was met with immediate denial of any such action on her part so I reassured her I was only speaking hypothetically, not accusing. Changed the subject." A wise decision on your part. Denial is a very strong and primitive defense mechanism. If your rider was a Toyota it could blamed on metal fatigue rather than a less than effective interaction between a moving rider and immoveable object.

"I'm no longer a fan of edging material of any kind- BEF. I use rocks and more rocks with each Spring crop.

Lou- I made the mistake of trying to do some #'s in my head and came away with a headache; too many neurons got involved. I saw the "s**w" word a couple of times since the modeled delusional doozy. You might see some mixed precipitation at the beginning of this event changing over to rain.
