Good morning!!!! 75F @ 9:45AM. Sunny to partly cloudy. High around 90F. Winds NNW at 5 to 10 mph.
Still under a Red Flag Warning, and the winds were strong and gusty most of the night. Strong enough to slam the master bedroom door shut at about 3AM, what a rude awakening that was!
Power went off at about 3PM yesterday, and remains off. As usual, no word from our beloved power company on when they might see fit to turn the juice back on, but not likely until late today when the RFW expires at 4PM. Also as usual, the generator fired up without hesitation, but then several hours later, in the dark, unexpectedly died, complaining of an overload. After futzing a bit, I remembered I'd left the small air compressor on in the garage, and when it tried to start it overloaded the genny. Once it was shut off, the generator went back to behaving itself, and continues to do so.
Got confirmation from the shipping container company that they think access to the pad will be OK, and the neighbor was over with his monster backhoe in the afternoon to finish the pad. He found the rock my FEL bucket was bouncing off of; it was about three feet long and half that around. In fact, he found a lot of rock, and spent a good amount of time scratching at it with the hoe until he got everything level and to the right depth. The laser level really came in handy there, with me poking the stick here and there as he worked back and forth, and bending over to toss out rocks that had found their way into the gravel that he spread on the pad for drainage. He also pushed the south end of the pad out to the little approach road that ends at the back porch, making a nice ramp up to the pad that is level side-to-side for easy transport of firewood pallets. Might also be a good approach for the container truck and trailer, but that will be up to the driver on Monday.
Also got the new line on my backhoe yesterday, but still need to refill the tank with oil and give it a bath with degreaser.
I want to give the red bike I rode last weekend the once over today, and then a bath to clean up the bugs. Tried to fix the non-blinking left turn signal yesterday, but it has healed on its own. Pretty sure I haven't seen the last of that one.
But I'll probably start out the day with a little housekeeping so my guests this evening don't find out what a slob I really am. Besides, yesterday's excavations put a lot of dust in the air, some of which found their way inside. I'm leaving the cob webs in place though, because Halloween's coming up fast and I'm not one to turn down free decorations.
