Good morning!!!!

Good idea, Rick! I haven't been using Fluid Film long enough to be sure, but from what I've read, it's a great preservative. Used after penetrating oil, which is better for getting things broken loose and working again, FF should keep them from getting stuck in the first place. I use a light grease on the PTO shaft, and have never had issues with corrosion there. Now if I could just figure out a way to cover the couplers on the ends of the PTO shafts...:confused3:

With our sandy soil here, it's easy to get grit in the implement side couplers. That why I blow them out, with compressed air and relabel with FF before reconnecting. The snap on plastic cover on the tractor side helps a lot as well.

Good Morning!!!! 57F @ 5:30AM. Sunny to partly cloudy. High 81F. Winds light and variable.

I think a big reason I've been dragging my feet on replacing the Kubota is all the trouble I've had with it. I'd hate to get another tractor and have to go through the same things again. Maybe I should start loaning it out to tractor addicts as a way to break their addiction?:confused3::laughing:

And thanks for posting your list, Wng. I don't feel so bad now about all the implements scattered around on the little gravel pad here, especially the ones that only get used once a year!

Still too dry for mushrooms here, Eric, but there are some the locals call "puff balls" that get as big as a person's head.

I sure hope there a way to lock out the dump lever when the bed is converted to a seat, Don.

Hope they figure out what's going on with the youngest, Farmer. And that all those taking sick call get back on the road to wellness.

Spent most of the morning on the phone, but I'll have gravel and decomposed granite delivered next week, and I think I found a vendor that can get a high cube 40' shipping container with doors on both ends delivered here for something less than a king's ransom. I just have to choose between brick red and dark blue for the color, neither of which is particularly appealing. The salesman I spoke to said I could always paint it, to which I replied "nothing is impossible for the man that doesn't have to do it".

Got a little side tracked after that, and ended up tearing into the code spoofer installation again on the van. I found that the source end of power lead had just been jammed into the relay socket it was attached to, and a piece of electrical tape was used to keep it from coming out. I can see how that could easily lead to an intermittent connection, and the error code I've been seeing. In the process of discovering that, I also learned that the main power lead to the Engine Management Unit stays hot for a few minutes after the key is turned off. I'd tested that lead before, turning the key off and then putting a multimeter on it, and came away thinking the lead was hot all the time. But yesterday I heard a click come out of what turned out to be the main power relay, and when I checked again there was no voltage on that lead, or any other. Turns out the EMU controls the main power relay, and the power to the EMU is controlled by the main power relay. Kinda like a dog chasing its own tail.:confused2: Anyway, I hooked up the power lead to the code spoofer to one of the switched wires coming out of the main power relay using a PosiTap, so no more intermittent power problems. That seems like too easy of a solution to the error code issue, but one can always hope.

Then I got a pair of lever guards mounted on the red bike, something I'd sort of been dreading because it looked like I'd be in for a lot of cutting and welding to make them fit. Turns out by moving some clamps for a handlebar stiffener, the guards fit right up. And with a little work with the bandsaw, an old pair of wind deflectors fit over the lever guards, and now my hands will be dryer and warmer on the trip this weekend. Now all I have to do is make the bar on the stiffener a quarter inch or so longer, so doing one weld instead of four seems like a pretty good trade.

Sheesh! Now October is half gone. I must be havin' fun, because time sure is flyin'!:confused2::laughing:

Good Morning Everyone!!!!!

My name is Jay and I am a tractor addict.

A mostly clear and sunny 32ºF for today’s low temperature and there were actually some frosty slick spots on the newly mowed field debris during Walk#1; a clear and sunny 45ºF presently; and I anticipate a clear and sunny afternoon high in the mid 50ºF’s. The hot coffee and wood stove taste and feel pretty good at the moment. Despite the lack of available information as to how; I was able to replace the ink cartridges on our printer w/o breaking anything during this morning’s “quiet time” activities. After things dry out more tractor seat time is in today’s plan.

I appreciate all the recommendations given.

Lou- I saw some not so scantily clad models here on TBN popups. I guess that my definition of “scantily clad” vixens is much more liberal.

“… minimize dirt and water once you get it working.”- Just remember it gets older as you get older and rust is working on PTO joints like arthritis is on yours.”- Bruce Thanks for the recommendation and observation. I do not think that neither of my two sprays do much to prevent rust from redeveloping. The PTO shaft and U-joints will be heavily greased for storage and better protected from ice and snow.

Farmer- I am happy to read that your youngest son is + responding to his meds. I hope the pulmonologist figures out what’s driving your son’s illness. I never heard nor read anything about a “sweat test.” I am sorry to read about your other son’s increased moodiness and decreased self-regulation. My + thoughts and prayers for your sons, you, and the rest of your family. I have two sizes of strap wrenches, but neither could get a grip on the ring casing due to all the spray. I almost regressed to expressed profanity trying to use those strap wrenches.

Eric- Thanks for the fungus pics and a good question that I am still pondering. There was an interesting early childhood research experiment once that matched similarly aged boy and girl infants by gender as well as by pupillary response to light stimuli (a test for base IQ). The researchers set up two separate simultaneous choice situations- black boxes with blinking lights and facial pictures of people. There was a statistically significant difference between boys and girls: The boys tended to choose the black boxes with blinking lights and the girls tended to focus on the facial pictures. So it appears that there is some male genetic predisposition towards all things mechanical.
“… normally sane people will drag themselves onto their machinery just to get another high, while others risk heat exhaustion and some take to the slopes in less than perfect conditions.”- The instinctual driving force is strong in this group. It appears that in our own ways were are stimulus junkies.

BEF- Happy birthday wishes for your eldest son and thanks for the laugh.

Drew- Thanks for the link. When an exhausted 190# dog does not want to move they do not move. That dog did look exhausted. Our St. B’s have gone on sit-down protests on occasion, but never due to exhaustion. St. B’s may be incredibly strong, but I do not think that they have that much endurance.

Check- Thanks for the picture.

Don- I hope that Whipper’s “snake aversion” training works.

I hope that everyone is having a decent day today.

My + thoughts and prayers.

50°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 69° today. A good chance for some showers and possible rumblers this afternoon ... right at drive time, of course.

Thanks for all the compliments on the house. It's just a small ranch-style with a walk-out basement. We've spent a lot of money (and time) on it over the last three years making it the home we want it to be. She puts in a lot of work keeping it up while I'm away on week days "making the donuts," as they say, then I try to get caught up on weekends. It takes a team, and I couldn't ask for a better teammate.

My name is a Rick and I'm addicted to blue air conditioned tractors and grapples. I used to have an orange one but ..... I got over it.

Clearly deep down inside you long for another orange tractor. And we are here to help.

Paul- It's great to have a teammate. I too am so lucky.

This is an old picture of our late St. B. Leo who decided to do a sit-down strike rather take a walk in the snow. He was a great dog; bone cancer took him far too early. We kept him pain free (24/7) with quality of life for 9 months.

I am a recovering tractor addict, working on my addiction, but hope to never get totally well...:D
:tractor::tractor::tractor::tractor::tractor:

Ram dealer charged me 360 bucks to replace the cruise control brain in my truck, and then another 37 bucks to fix the radio.
I never get a chance to grouse on the latter, because very nice lady service tech applied a ten percent credit to whole bill, and so the
radio was effectively free. Truck runs great now. Whoever gets this low mileage truck next will be pleased, probably in two years. I won't need a hemi powered
truck then for sure, need to get down to one vehicle.

futzing with rv rest of day, my elderly Miss Daisy is coming over for a visit in an hour, wants to see the rv.
She is finally driving again after falling and breaking her wrist.

looks like 25mph winds on Thursday crossing the big Chesapeake bridge, should be fun.

But most importantly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Ellen. :drink:

70°F and .15 inches rain
Not a particularly productive day yesterday, but wx improved by afternoon and a very nice Happy Hour with 16 folks. More of a small party I guess. Lots of good food.

Anemometer on wx station seems to be sticking. Need to fix.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day
