Unusual day not to be seeing song birds at the feeders and a couple dozen dove on the ground at this time of the morning...but the Bird Airport is closed due to heavy fog (named after you, Bird).

Toppop, I think it was you that observed last year how the grass was beginning to take on its autumnal look. Mowed a section yesterday that was looking that way. Plus the forest near the county "convenience station" aka dumpsters/recycle bins have a lot of trees with red, orange, and yellow color. Mostly sassafras trees, but some maple and poplar.

Good morning! Starting off with 80˚F before sunrise is never good. Heading to 101˚F. At least I have mornings to get outside.

Heading to the gardens to till in my 50 lb bag of dried molasses which was delivered yesterday. Found it on-line $10 less than Amazon even with the shipping added. Ridley 5 Lb. Dried Molasses 47975 Want to keep my microbes fed. I need to start the Fall garden soon but I'm waiting for the temp to stay in the low 90s.

RNG I'm still excited about your firetruck. Post as many pics as possible. Most FD vehicles have very low millage. Like Drew said get some turnout gear. I would get the lighter wild land gear instead of the interior structure gear since you will not be entering a burning building and you might have it on for an extend time. A good helmet with face shield is essential to block the radiant heat and falling hot ashes. A good pair of leather gloves is also needed.

I saw water vollyball being played in the central pool last year but have not looked for it this year. Its on my Summer bucket list. I think I saw them on a Sunday but Sunday afternoon is also card time.

Speaking of Cards, we had a 3 handed Hand and Foot Card Tournament last night in the Card and domino Club. 33 people showed up to compete. They had a rotation set up so you never played with the same people and since this was 3 handed no partner to help. I ended up about in the middle of the pack with 3 wins and 7K points but my Wife came in second place with 5 wins and 9500 points.

I'd be like a kid in a candy store at Messicks, Drew! I didn't know about the axle seal video, but have experienced first hand the under designed nature of the front axle on my current Kubota. When I purchased the 4-in-1 bucket the dealer warned me it would be heavier than the bucket it replaced, but he neglected to mention it would put added wear on the front axle components as well as the FEL. To date, I've had to rebush the pivots on the FEL and replace front axle seals and a broken hub. And now the seals are leaking again.

It seems contrary to my engineering training that a company would design components that would fail at less than the advertised capacities of the tractor. In other words, a customer should be able to load a bucket up with gravel and side hill all day for a year and not break loader mounts or front axle parts.

Wow, that is a big surprise on the Kubota. We even havhave threadsre on TBN complaining about the low capacity of the Kabota front end loader‘s, and some have commented that the under rate their loaders just to be safe

BTW We are cooling down considerably these days up here, and getting more rain. Perhaps the rainy season is starting earlier now that we have all this climate change stuff happening. Bummer again – I have lots of outside work still to do!

68 this morning and headed to 91 today.

Will be getting my exercise in with a chain saw. Besides the daily task of feeding calves, walking birds and watering cows that’s all I have planned to do today. New helper coming to mow today. See how that goes. Last week our grass mowed like a fall mow. Maybe it’s just drying out.

Rng. Nice fire truck. We have one green department and 10 red departments in the county. Insurance company probably won’t care unless you have someone on site 24/7 though. 750 gallons doesn’t sound like much. Do you have the ability to refill quickly?

Buppies. My knowledge of the Ford 6.7 is second hand. Only what others tell me. But the 6.4 and 6.7 owners talk about the next truck being gas. Unless they really need the power then they talk of 100-150k miles being the life of the truck and they trade. Cummins and Duramax owners say they will buy another diesel. 20k miles on my 6.7 Cummins still love it.

You can edit with the i-phone and TBN app. Just hold your finger on your post and a menu comes up. Also to fine edit hold your finger on the space bar and the letters will disappear and you can move your cursor to the exact word/letter that needs correcting.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 65° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 85° with mostly sunny skies. Got grocery shopping done yesterday. My cousin came over and collect all items needed to make food Betty can manage to swallow for the next week. Big help for me in her care. I have a few outside things to get done that have been neglected for the past week.

RNG, If you want a custom made cover for your fire truck. Check out CalMark. Or find a boat cover manufacture. Neither is cheap. But use Sunbrella. My CalMark RV cover was still in good shape after 11 years. Need protection on all sharp corners no matter what you get.

RNG, what a marvellous looking fire truck. Having a mobile pump and water supply independent of any other equipment must be very reassuring on top of all the other measures you are taking and a lot of fun too. Maybe those on here with fire fighting experience can give you some tips on how best to protect yourself if you are contemplating having to go outside during a fire.

You're reading my mind again, Eric.:confused2: It is something of a relief go know there's a backup in place if the generator won't start and there's no water to fight a fire. And I'm somewhat bewildered by the vastness of choice in firefighter clothing on display at places like Galls. The people I see fighting wildland fires usually don flame resistant shirt and trousers, and some kind of helmet with a visor to protect their eyes. I've enough experience tending large bonfires to know you can't get very close to them without being burned unless you have some kind of protection, be it clothing, some sort of shield, or a water spray. I don't have any plans to be running into burning buildings, and there's enough fire safe space here to provide distance from heat, so the traditional heavy turnout jacket/pants/rubber boots probably aren't necessary, and could lead to heat stroke should I wear them in weather like we're currently experiencing. Worst case is a wind driven ember storm, the type that resembles a blizzard with sparks instead of snow, and I'm not sure there's any clothing that can protect from that.
