Still searching for replacement plates, Eric, and now I see that there are shims at the top of the stack to adjust for variations in plate thickness. If there's too much deviation from the plates I have, I'll have to adjust the shims, and I have no more shims, either. Rebuild viscous couplers are available at about twice the cost of the splined tube that would replace the coupler, and just to keep things simpler, I may end up with the tube anyway.
Forgot to mention that on Thursday's trip to town, I dropped off a pair of stub axles at the ex-mechanic's place. It looked like he was having a garage sale, with one of his units almost empty and the other nearly so. Turns out he's closing his business and merging it with that of one of his biggest customers, the van flipper. That guy is a much better businessman, but operates a little too far on the shady side for me, so they make a good pair. I wonder when the ex was gonna tell me about the move, or was I supposed to discover it myself when I went to drop off the axles? I think it was Ron that first speculated about the fragility of the business, and he was right. Just took a little longer than we thought.
Off to Lake Tahoe for an Airhead Tech Day this morning, with breakfast up the road in Quincy. This is the fella that builds docks on the lake, and has a beautiful shop to do it in. Tonight's low up there is supposed to be 37F, nice crisp camping weather!
Have a great weekend, everyone, and I'll catch up with you on Monday morning!
