Good morning!!!!

It was 5° this morning. Yesterday was sunny but not as warm as they said it was going to be. Today is going to be in the mid 30's and sunny and a light breeze.

Don't have any real plans. Maybe do some work in the garage.

Hope everyone has a great day.
CWB.

Bird migration has been strange here this year. Mountain bluebirds showed up about 2 weeks ago, only stayed around for a few days. Usually they are here for a month. Usually hear / see a lot of Canadian geese flying overhead this time of year and not a one yet. An area south of here called "Bosque Del Apache' is a large preserve for the migration stop of sandhill cranes and geese. Usually thousands of birds are there this time of year, the numbers are way down. It is truely a sight to be seen.

Ted- Congratulations on the new truck. I wish you many uneventful miles together. I really like my sprayed-in bed liner; far superior to a bed liner insert (BTDT).

Our bird counts are way off for most bird species this year as well. No finches seen at all, and reduced #'s of birds seen generally.

Good morning to all! Low went down to 28 after a cold front came through. Cloudy now, shower / t-storms expected by this afternoon. The kicker is now they are predicting 3-6" of snow for tonight....thought winter was gone...

Kyle, hope you are able to be somewhat comfortable, gall bladder pain is some of the worst. Are the docs going to try and remove the stones?

All this talk about maple syrup....having pancakes this morning....with store bought pure maple syrup. That stuff is sure 'watered down'. Doesn't taste like 'real' syrup.

Well the dump run didn't happen yesterday....something else came up. I knew it would. When I took the jeep in for service, I had started "negotiations" for trading it in on a new midsize pickup. The dealer called back and forth quite a few times. They finally met the figures I presented to them. They said "we took a big loss on this deal".... I doubt it... I just got a decent price and decent trade value. We went to town and signed and picked it up.

My 'off road adventure' days are pretty much over with, so a vehicle more conducive for our needs was in order. Drives nice, a lot more comfortable than the jeep. Didn't need a full size truck, thought about that for a while, just couldn't justify the $20 K more. Going from a 'manual everything' vehicle to one with all the bells and whistles is amazing. Now to just figure it all out. Mmmm...wonder if I can get on TBN through an app on the radio?.... I'll have to look into that.... Pics to follow.

Guess I have to use the new truck to go to the dump. I have to take it back in next Wednesday to install the trailer hitch and spray in bedliner. Guess unloading the dump trailer into the truck bed is in order.

With that said, I better get going......

Everyone have a peaceful Sunday. Prayers sent for all as usual.

Hey, LS, where’s the pics of the new truck?

   / Good morning!!!! #91,486
LS congratulations on the new truck I知 sure it will serve you well. Never heard of that preserve sounds fascinating. We have 4 blue birds that stay all year round juncos have not left yet plenty of red and yellow finches, titmouses and red birds downy woodpeckers all gather around the feeder when we eat breakfast. Mallards and Canadian geese stay at the pond basically year round

Here's a couple... Didn't think about taking them last night before dark.

Well, that is a surprise. My brother said he had a huge single gallstone, and the doctors said to leave it because it was too big to pass into the duct and cause problems.

Doc said my large stone is too big to pass, but will clog the bile duct. She said that it can mess with liver function, and jaundice is possible, among other problems. Mine's coming out. She said to back off of fatty foods. I need an air fryer.

Interesting. Mine was large and was to large to be removed normally with Laparoscopic Gallbladder Surgery. They cut another hole near belly button. Pulled it out that way.
What happens with a large Gallstone is it blocks the bile from exiting Gallbladder. Then it all of a sudden lets the bile out. This causes the flu like symptoms. What it has to do with a cough I have no idea. But my nextdoor neighbor in AZ had the same symptoms. Fought it for 20+ years as i did. You do not want an infection or ruperture. The bile will get into areas that will make you very sick. This is my layman description. Dr may explain it differently.

Thanks to all for their gall bladder stories. I was wondering about the time to heal... Many phone calls to make tomorrow. I like to shop around on medical procedure pricing.

Grey outside this AM. Yesterday was a bust with the chainsaw. Got one tree all cut up and put away. The huge maple remains next to a house and in the yard. Need big equipment to move it. Cleaned out a garage after the first tree and decided I was to tired for the maple.
Hope all have a good Sunday. Prayers and blessings of safety for all.

Rip, I know they make expensive guitars out of maple, both acoustic and electric. I'm wondering if your wood is still good and if you might could find someone who would actually pay you something for it? I know heartwood walnut is very valuable.

Congrats on your new truck LS. Did you get 4WD?

RNG, going back to your building plans, if you started moving some dirt around yourself with a box blade, maybe you could "chip away at the stone". Or does your soil have a lot of stone in it which requires much larger equipment? Seems to me if you did a little at a time, you wouldn't have the authorities breathing down your neck....

Drew, I respect your Sunday morning quiet time. We had an informal "pact" between my city neighbors, no mowing prior to 9 am on weekends. Most of us mowed in the late evenings.

47F and blustery here, going to 57F. These temps are about 10 degrees below normal.

Daughters planted a tomato plant given to my autistic daughter at school. Also planted 6 burpless cucumber plants. My wife likes them in salads. All the green bean and green pea seeds have sprouted. Growing fast.

Hope you all have a blessed day.

Don, tomorrow is your big day. Be sure to get a slow moving vehicle sign to put on the rear when you drive it around the community to your garden. Boy will the garden competitors be envious. They should have got a 3 car garage....

Ted, good luck with new truck, always a fun thing.
Kyle, hope tomorrow goes well, sorry you are going through this.

Hooked up solar fence charger to new electric fence running entire length of potato and collards field, zapped myself nicely, so that works though deer can jump right over it. Hoping from tracks I see they amble up to it and get zapped.

Rain is forecast which we need, if only to wash off huge clouds of pine pollen dust, tis the season. Dust cloud follows me driving in the lane. Rain might fizzle out, never know.

Trying to find something else quiet to do, decided to sand points on 1968 Cub Cadet 125 that never starts due to sticking points.
Got them sanded, turned the key, slow groan (motor generator starter, all in one) and engine turned over, started about three seconds later. Amazing. Hadn't started in over a year. Thank you high test non ethanol fuel loaded with SeaFoam. Just ran it at idle for a little bit to not make noise and put it back in shed. Will sell soon, doesn't get used, fully renovated and probably not worth a penny more than the 500 bucks I paid for it, and before all new tires, paint, decals, etc.

"Congrats on your new truck LS. Did you get 4WD?" -----Kyle

Absolutely...I'll need to get some all-terrain tires when I wear these out. Definitely need 4WD out here.

Drew, wish I was closer....two of my favorite tractors were the old cub cadets (my dad had one) and the old wheel horses (I just gave away a '72 that I wanted to restore). I think you should be able to get a bit more than $500, especially if it has been fixed up like you described. Good luck! Sure don't make them like that anymore!

It was 47°F here this morning, 20° colder than yesterday morning when it was 67°F. Guess this will be winters last gasp here. Forecast is for 55°F this afternoon and down to 40°F overnight, and 36°F for Tuesday morning.

It's been very windy here since the front came thru yesterday.

Sunday is always tractor, Kubota ZT, and Polaris Ranger maintenance day but, will most likely do all four inside the shop with doors closed.

Good luck with your gall bladder Kyle. And yes ...... you do need an air fryer. You can get "fried food" flavor ..... without all the fat. We use our at least once a day and sometimes for multiple meals. I think "fried" chicken is one of my personal favorites.

My experience with augering in fence posts and digging trenches tells me that there are rocks of all sizes in the dirt, then at some point you get to the mountain itself, which will either be limestone or schist. Either way, it'll stop the little 3PH hitch backhoe on my Kubota cold.

As for chipping away, that might work for a while, but the county has started reviewing satellite imagery looking for illegal marijuana grows. Then they cite them for building code violations and environmental impact/pollution ordinances, and of course for the dope if the proper licenses haven't been pulled and adhered to. I've seen fines levied close to a million, and it's not uncommon for them to get into tens of thousands of dollars.

At this point, my bulldozer neighbor has agreed to come down and dig an exploratory trench or two, the idea being to determine how much overburden there is before hitting solid rock. Before that, he's also offered to help me scope out a more level area to start with to help me see the forest for the trees. Regardless, with the prices being charged for earthwork, it would be more cost effective to purchase a bulldozer and excavator of my own and do the work myself. Even if I kept 'em for a couple of years, I could sell them for not much less than they cost, and still come out way ahead on that aspect. I just don't know how long my on-the-job training would take, and how successful I'd be at producing a level pad at the end.
