Good morning, it痴 the weekend! 30 this morning, may get to 40. Looks like both days will be about the same temperature. Chance of some wet snow tomorrow.

Only thing I need to do today is take on of the bike frames to have a new pipe rab welded on. May start gathering up some of the branches that are down in the yard. Basically going to take the day as it comes.

Everyone have a safe and good day.

Gee! That is my yard!

I was thinking that that would make a pretty yard, with a very early green-up with no fertilizer.

Good morning 42˚F heading to the 60s.

12 potatoes plants are up - that's about half. I supported the green house by buying 12 starter plants - tomatoes, peppers, okra to start off with.

Worked on placing 180 lb. trail number markers in the ground/rock yesterday, have a few more to do today. The coordinates of these markers are given the the FD with which road access is the closest so an incident that happened a few years ago will not be repeated - a very delayed response to a hiker that fell and had a bleeding head.

During the open house/ribbon cutting of the new trail the Hiking club will have members at trail intersections directing people. I have my assignment but have no idea how many people are expected to turn out. We just have 8 days to complete the finishing touches.

In exactly one week I have my assignment for the Horticulture plant sale - traffic control and set up and take down and loader helper.

In each of these events there are about 50 people that are volunteer helpers. hopefully things will slow down in these two clubs so I can concentrate on the Woodworkers club in April after my safety classes. Some asked about the saw dust vacuum/air cleaning system in the wood shop. Yesterday I was in the back of the wood shop and saw it. IMG_2741.JPG

Scott's and most Weed n' Feeds are loaded with Atrazine herbicide. IMHO most Weed n' Feeds are crappy fertilizers mixed with dangerous herbicides. In other words ..... they are crap!

You'll soon see lawsuits against Atrazine which, unlike Glyphosate, is a real problem

If you use the correct fertilizer, for the specific time of year, for your specific area, you will have good results.

In early spring, once ground temperatures are consistently at 60°F or higher, you should apply a quick release / fast green-up fertilizer with a N-P-K ratio of 3-1-2, like a 15-5-10.

In a few weeks, apply a slow release product, like a 19:4:10, with a slow release nitrogen.

The Bonide Weed Beater Complete granular is a good low temp pre-emergent / post emergent herbicide for early spring application. Use it again in the Fall when it cools down. You can also use Bonide Weed Beater Ultra, in a sprayer, for low temp spot treatment.

Best advice I can give you, is to meet your County Extension Agent and develop a relationship with him / her.

We are blessed in Texas to have the Texas A&M supported "Texas Agri-Life Program. They are a HUGE resource for us.

This is a great lawn program, kinda specific to our area of Texas, but good information for review for your area.

Randy Lemmon

Randy likes Atrazine even less than I do.

The big takeaway is that healthy soil will grow great preferred grasses that will choke out weeds.

Read The Label. The Label is the Law.
Thanks, will look for some bonita to put down now. Grass just showing hints of greening up.

Good Morning!!!! 47F @ 5:30AM. Mainly sunny to start, then a few afternoon clouds. High 71F. Winds light and variable.

That's one heck of a foundation for that hopper, Don. Do you think they got the slab thick enough?:confused2:

The breeze was a little stiffer than I thought yesterday morning when I started the brush pile fire, and the branches upwind of the ignition point were quite safe from the flames until nudged in with the forklift tines. I learned that letting the tines hang straight down from the FEL and driving toward the middle of the pile is an easier way of banking the flames than using a shovel. Good thing, too, because by 6PM it was all I could do to put one foot in front of the other after cutting wood since noon. I feel like I earned my Bourbon yesterday, purely medicinal, of course! And yes, Rick, the tines are really convenient for lifting one end of a downed tree to just the right height for comfortable cutting, cheating the sawbuck out of some of its work. And today I'll push them closer together so I can roll the larger rounds onto them to let the tractor do the lifting and carrying to where they will be stacked until I can break out the splitter.

I hope everyone enjoys a nice weekend!

Made a quick trip to Sams Club. Roads very slippery. By the time I got home sun was shining. Then it started snowing again. Did get feeders filled while sun was shining.

Don, I never realised that hummus came in more than 1 flavour ! maybe I should have another look next time we go grocery shopping. What I have tried before has always looked and smelt like - well not sure I should say while some folk may be eating breakfast ... here kitty kitty.

I could not have said it any better. I don't think I've ever been hungry enough to eat that stuff.

33 degrees this morning going for a sunny high of 58.
