69°F and very foggy here this morning. Forecast says 73°F and 50% chance of rain this afternoon.

I'm sneaking up on getting all our machines cleaned up. Washed the Polaris Friday and the Kubota ZT yesterday.

Now just two tractors and my F-350 left to do. At this pace I think I can milk this job for most of the week.

Good morning! 56˚F heading to only 59˚F with a slow north wind. Cloudy 30% chance of rain today 80% tomorrow and 100% Wed.

Drew, you get to play with the big boys. You are probably right about the chemicals, at least that was the speciality of our county extension agent. I guess you will find out for us if they have any expertise in organics.

Everyone had a name for the new trail picnic area where the benches were installed. The name I chose stuck, "Twelve Oaks", and we put the name on one trail direction sign. At every intersection and place of confusion there is a sign. Old people need signs so they don't get lost. We have over 50 to install. Rebar is hammer drilled into the rock and then the legs which have a hole in bottom are slid on with adhesive. The wood legs are not actually in the ground.

Looks like 8° for the low this morning. It was mostly cloudy yesterday with a few snow showers and in the low 30's. Today is going to be partly cloudy and in the mid 30's with light winds.

Not much going on today. I'll go out and see if I can find something to keep me busy for while.

Good morning to all! Low down to 36, going up to 55. Rain showers expected for the next 3 days, 60-80%. Low hanging clouds / moisture in the air.....now if it can only condense, we might actually get rained on.

Drew, have you looked into getting a "subsidy" to help offset the costs being you donate everything to the food pantry? Might help to produce more for them? Of course, the way gooberment works, might be more hassle than it's worth!

Roy, prayers sent for Suzette's continued healing.

had to come in and sit down after planting potatoes and beets for four hours. Was planting as the sun came up, delightful time of day and so far the bugs weren't out, although I did see a mosquito on the back porch yesterday which isn't good.
Had decided to do half the potatoes, one row, but kept going and did the whole thing.
Boy my back hurts even wearing a back brace. Hot tub for sure this afternoon.

Now some seat time. While I hand raked the first four rows to cover the potatoes, going to use Super A on last two rows and see if I can use the hiller to cover them. Just don't have the energy to hand rake at the moment... At least with the Super A I can see what I'm doing and not wreck anything. Would be nice if I didn't need a finish raking but the other four rows look so nice, hmmm.

Fed allows me $1.60 per pound deduction for food given to food pantry. One could really game the system buying 5 pound bags of carrots which cost .69 a pound, or bananas which are currently on giveaway at .37 here locally. Why are bananas so cheap?

So for the lettuce and kale and stuff like that, I take the buck sixty rate. But for these potatoes, I only claim .60 a pound. Never been audited and don't intend to start now... I'm in a very low tax bracket so honestly the tax deduction doesn't amount to much but it's something.
If I factored in the fertilizer, fencing, seed, plastic, paid wages, rototillers, plus all three tractors are used, the deduction is actually laughable.

58 now, high around 60 is the story, looks like a decent week with a couple of cool days and a couple of warm ones. At least there is not much rain in the forecast.

Good Morning Everyone!!!!!!

3” of snow/sleet fell yesterday here and not much rain as expected. 32ºF was today’s low temperature, 38ºF now and expect4ed to rise a couple of more degrees in today’s mixed sun and clouds. A beautiful day here.

To the tune of ~$400(USD) our heating challenges were overcome w/o incident, and a round of personal hygiene is on today’s project list. The mini-splits worked pretty well heating the house as backup in the relatively mild temperatures. The heating system is freeze proof to 0ºF and burst proof to -20ºF according to the HVAC tech. I guess I can now significantly dial back the thermostats for nighttime use.

Drew- What an opportunity. I hope you can take full advantage of the program and give your body an occasional rest.

Roy- I wish Suzette a speedy recovery.

RonJH- I hope your wife has a decent OT session and your Aunt continues to gain strength.

I appreciate the pictures. The pictured weather and landscape is a diversified as the posters here.

34°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 48° today. Weather voice on the radio this morning suggested we may be flirting with 70° by Wednesday. I happened to be driving through a patch of snow and sleet while hearing that.

Most of the weekend stormageddon stuff missed us far to the south on Saturday. We did get some bouts of heavy rain, but it didn't last much past noon. In fact, the afternoon gave us a fair amount of sunshine and mid-60s for temps. Sunday was dry but cooler.

I am not a fan of DST. If it's so important to everyone to have "more daylight" at the end of the day, well, just start the day's activities earlier. When the sun is at it's highest point, it should be 12:00, in my opinion. Most of our clocks reset automatically, but a few don't. Pretty sure we got them all yesterday. I was surprised to find that the little cube clock radio in the barn adjusted itself. I looked up at the wall clock in my office at work a little while ago and it took a few seconds to realize it was still lagging an hour. Need to fix that one.



I always get a kick out of people's reactions to that clock.

Congrats on the new gun, Roy. Can't have too many .22s.

I agree and in a similar clock status. Some clocks/timers here run on EST only; there is no real need to run DST time if the device generally only is needed during EST season. My truck is an old fashioned hour/minute pushbutton time set. Wifey's Forester requires the owner's manual, a computer brainiac, and a couple of attempts.

I learned to like DST when I was young and working a lot, still had some daylight in the warm months to do things at home, play with my kids, go for a boat ride, etc... There really were no other options to have that chance.

Drew, there's nothing illegal or immoral about taking a tax deduction that you're entitled to claim. The gummint doesn't need or appreciate your charity, and you could put the funds toward much better use in your community.

Yup, and yup.

My Wife got that for me one year for my birthday, before we were married. It used to hang in the kitchen of the last house, but went into a box when I moved. As I'm pretty much a hermit most of the time, it didn't get much exposure until I hung it in my office here a couple years ago. Most people just shake their heads at it. Some, though, get that very entertaining "WTF?!" look. :laughing: Love it.
