Good morning!!!!

Good evening all. 36F this morning, .5 inch in rain gauge, overcast, calm wind. Light to moderate wind day, overcast thinned out during afternoon, high temp made it to 56F. Light puttering today, Stepdaughter's vacuum wouldn't pick up, machine was plugged with impressive amounts of debris. Went for bike ride and removed some of the ashes so the coals would burn out faster. Finished with dog walk.
Never bothered with winter storm names, always seemed like so much hype, forecasters seem to rub their hands with glee over that. :2cents:
prayers for all

Well, something tells me that our esteemed Mohammad is prejudiced against anybody that is not an American.

1. ELIGIBILITY. This Sweepstakes is open only to individuals who (i) are legal residents of the 50 states of the United States or the District of Columbia, and (ii) who are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry (19 or older if a resident of Alabama or Nebraska).

I see. Now I don't feel so bad about blocking all the ads on TBN.

It's a Yanmar USA sponsored drawing, not TBN. Maybe take it up with them.

How long would it take the ambulance by air or ground to get you to a facility with a coronary ICU that could provide intervention and stop a heart attack. In the country I witnesses several fast transports. The best time was two hours. Your heart starts to get damage after an hour of obstruction, still conscious just chest pain.

Use two scenarios 1. you can't walk to car and must call an ambulance and 2. you can walk to car and get someone to drive you to the hospital.

Scenario #1
1. realize something is wrong as pain increases - 10 minutes
2. call 911 and give information - 3 minutes
3. ambulance to receive information and drive here - 12 minutes
4. evaluation and start IV -15 minutes
5. transport to hospital - 20 minutes
total = 1 hour

Scenario #2
realize something is wrong and get to car (10 min) and have wife or neighbor drive to hospital (20 min) - 30 minutes.

AED and CPR are overrated, sure sometimes they work and those will be the one you hear about but when we lived in Houston with close everything the situations the ambulance responded to with the person unconscious and CPR was required there was a less than 5% survival rate. I do not know if that figure has gone up or down the last 20 years.

Think prevention.

Great info, Don
The focus of our class was cardiac arrest, very different from heart attack in that patient is unconscious. As described to us, heart attack is essentially a plumbing problem, cardiac arrest is an electrical problem.

As you state the CPR success rate has been terribly low, 3% was our county about 2 years ago and is approaching 20% with the advent of training/awareness and distribution of AED units. Location is a major factor of course, being rural works against us. Instructor stated there is some Wash State area that hovers in the 60+% range. A Dr told me after class that the Vegas casinos report around 80% as most of the staff is trained and equipment abundant. Our only public AED is located at the Fire Station. The local PD refuse to carry them in their cars.

Visited Suzette...she's doing quite well

34 and rain, going to 61.

Most of yesterday's snow has melted from the 34 degrees rain. For a while it was freezing, and our lights flickered.

I finally caught up to about 10 pages of posts.

Roy, hope Suzette can go home soon. Hope she liked the stuffed cow.

Buppies, glad you have back up generator. Do you have to clean up those trees?

Now that I've finished doing two others' taxes, I finished my taxes yesterday...spent all night deciding how to spend the $1.00 Federal refund I'll be getting. Maybe buy a lottery ticket and turn in into thousands.

yeah, glad your wife is doing better Roy.
I think L4N was kidding. I get in trouble that way too..................

foggy morning predicted with no rain until dinnertime and warm.

Buppies, sorry about the trees. Did the wet ground add to this and they just let go or was it wind?
Pics?

For those that asked about the recipe for Southwestern Shepherd's pie...I asked the chef (my wife) since all I do is eat it. Pretty simple, real good on a cold day, and different from regular shepherd's pie...

Myla's Southwestern Shepherd's Pie

1. Brown 1 lb meat (she used ground turkey, but previously used ground beef...she doesn't like lamb - I know Eric's flock will be glad to hear that). Add some cumin and chili powder, or Mesquite seasoning.

2. Drain and add 1 can of Tri-mix beans (black, pinto, kidney)

3. Add 1 can or half bag of frozen corn

4. Add 1 16 oz jar of green chile sauce (this is the magic...we haven't been able to beat the flavor of Hatch Valley sauce that we've ordered from 505 Southwestern in Albuquerque, but they've been bought out and shipping cost is sky high now...I guess my job will be to make up my own batch).

5. Blend and simmer for about 10 min.

6. Put above into glass casserole dish

7. Top with mashed potatoes

8. Top with grated Mexican cheese blend

9. Bake at 350 degrees until bubbly and cheese melts

10. Thank the lord and the chef. Eat too much and enjoy.
