Ron at 120K a piece for the outboards I think 300 hp i/o would be much cheaper.
I had 2 boats with twin engines. One with I/O and one with straight inboards. While not as fast as the I/O's. I would take the inboards for better maneuverability and easier/less maintenance. Fuel economy would be a big concern today.

30 and several inches of snow so far...going to 34. Sleet is now mixing in with the snow. Radar shows we should be in all snow, so hopefully will change back before power outages.

David, great birds eye view of the project. I knew you were paving all the way to the volcano :).

Sounds cold up north...Brrrrr.

Bupppies, did you get your tractor back?

The birds knew something was up (snow) yesterday...they ate double, and the Carolina wren that sleeps on our porch speaker every night went in to the nest at 3pm right after it started snowing...came back out later when I went out to get firewood.

Took my wife out for breakfast yesterday and then spent much of the day re-tarping firewood pallets, a couple of tractor implements and even a pile of dirt. Had enough time to do some target practice and it started snowing while I was shooting...kinda fun. Until I "ruined" it for those few minutes, it was the quietest Saturday afternoon I can remember all year...almost no vehicles going down the road, no dogs or chainsaws or trains or planes.

Hope many of you hurting are feeling better today.

rain is bringing in warmer temps, 42 going to 51 today, cloudy and rainy
I see on my remote thermometer it's 57 in the garden shed with two electric heaters and propane running, sure shows how inadequate both existing heater and insulation is. I'll be real happy with good insulation and a bigger heater in there. Headed out soon to turn off the electric heaters, 1100 seedlings growing will have to suck it up.
Padded floor mat on order.
Have run out of room in the garden shed to store seedling trays, been having too much fun,
so will have to wait until next wednesday when greenhouse finally gets heat.
Once you start scratching that planting itch...

Any of us with arthritis know that cold weather is not our friend. One nice silver lining of a neck soft collar in winter is it sure makes
a nice scarf. That plus my beard and a hat, I'm ready Freddie. But I just don't want to be Thomas's neighbor, even as nice as he is...;)
Or Roy's. And then there's the icebox of the world even further North.
Have to be very self reliant for that part of the world.
But then you see those pictures of a forest of pine trees laden with snow, through which your nicely plowed driveway goes,
and you think, why would I want to leave? Plus there's less people, and less people is usually good.
Just be safe with the super low temps coming.

Am hoping all of Farmer's new fans and heaters are working well. Not like those chickens can put on coats
if the power or heat goes out. 80,000 of them, lot of coats to put on...;)

Have a nice Sunday.

26° and 4" of snow here, still snowing.

Billy, your Saturday sounds wonderful. I always admire all the fun things you get into and the joy you get out of life
comes through here. Having a little peace and quiet is good for the soul.

But target practice is important too, which reminds me it's time
to oil my .22 rifle and shotgun. I really ought to give the latter away, that well used pump shotgun might actually get used by
someone else. I have a box of birdshot for it. Not that I'd shoot birds but there was some logic used in that choice many years ago.
I don't want to put home defender rounds in it, really want a non lethal alternative. Like those police rubber slugs, though I don't think I can legally buy them. Not an area I know much about.

31 and We have about 2” on the ground and it’s snowing pretty good, but forecasts are all over the place. From heavy snow with 4 + additional, to rain and freezing rain with maybe an inch of snow tonight. I will let you know how it goes.

Guys, be careful in this stuff, whether you are driving or shoveling or even playing on the tractor.

Prayers for all.

Minus 11 here...not as bad as LookingforNew's minus 18, but cold enough for me to stay inside! High about 20 today.
Main chore is to pack my gear for a weeklong training session at the sister plant in Connecticut.
Something I need to do, but not sure I'll do it...is to see if I can fix the mail box. I hit the crosspiece (the horizontal arm that holds the mailbox) when clearing snow on Thursday. I'm not sure it can be fixed...might have to replace the post. The problem is I have a bad cold (or worse) and I don't want to make things worse before this trip to Connecticut. I have to, at least, go out and give it a more thorough looksee.

32 outside and that is the expected high. About 4 inches of snow so far and we are in the 4 to 12 area.

No insurance guy showed yesterday. Called an hour after he missed his time and said he would not be there. Lousy customer skills on his part.

Managed to get a six point on the game cam. Revives the debate on spike bucks between my friends and I. Still looking for the big one. Wife got a nice shot of him a long time ago.

Off to fill the feeders and play in the snow. Hope all have a great day. Be safe.

Good morning everyone!

6F and headed to mid-twenties today, otherwise quiet in the north north-east.

I wish the best of luck with the storm to all in the south, and a warm day next to your favorite heat source to all in the north.

Enjoy the day all!

Good Morning, good luck to all with weather today. As a third from New England this AM, just want to add I hope our quiet weather is only interrupted by cheers heating up the sky over Foxborough today!

Good morning to all! Low of 28F so far. It started snowing just after 05:00 am this morning. Predictions are all over the place, from 1-4", 3-6", and another at 4-8".... I guess we'll just wait and see. High is supposed to get to 34F.

One of the projects I have been contemplating was building/fabricating a snow plow mount for the tractor. I had an old plow for years, gave it to another neighbor (who also hasn't used it), she gave it back to me last week. So, I finally measured everything and figured out the metal pieces I would need. Not too costly, but inconvenient to get into town to pick it up. Another neighbor is a pack-rat when it comes to usable 'stuff'. I gave him a call and he said "come on over...I'm sure I have some metal". .....

So, got on the tractor, drove over to his place through a muddy, messy, bogg. Tractor was slipping all over throwing mud everywhere. Well worth it though, he gave me 3-20' sticks of 3" angle, some other steel channel, and some flat stock. Enough to build the mount (probably x 3), and maybe redo my implement dollies. Loaded it on the tractor and made my way home.

Now I also have another job....cleaning the mud off the tractor. I won't get to either of those projects today with the way it's snowing. Have an 1 1/2" in 2 hours. Not the heavy stuff yet... Today is stay inside and have 'puppy time'.

Hopefully it will be done snowing early and the roads get cleared. I have to go to the ortho doc tomorrow. That's a 40 mile trip each way...

For all those also facing frigid temps and snow... Stay safe and warm. Keep the fires burning!

Everyone have a great Sunday, prayers sent.

Good Morning Everyone!!!!

Today’s low was 10ºF and I expect it to warm to the mid20ºF’s here later. What I did yesterday excepting the dump run will be repeated again today.

“… I try to be funny, but sometimes I put my mouth on my foot.”- Kyle I hate flossing those bits of Vibram sole that get stuck between my crowns. I finally got used to those periods of awkward silence in social settings.:embarrassed: I am happy to read that MIL had a good time and FIL is adjusting to his diabetic diet. It’s more a mindset than diet changes when it comes to eating/drinking. Counting calories and figuring out food/ingredient substitutions were my challenges. I wish him luck and health.

“… but looks like two weeks of bitter cold starting around February first.”- Randy. I agree. The cold is locking in, but so far nothing else is changing with this hemisphere encircling, closed loop upper level jet firing up the Pacific and all the other stuff I occasionally ramble on about here.

BEF- I am happy to read that your sons arrived at their destination safely.

“…. it was the quietest Saturday afternoon I can remember all year...almost no vehicles going down the road, no dogs or chainsaws or trains or planes.”- Billy I agree about that magical silence and stillness fresh snowfall brings and also the bird feeding behavior changes at the feeders before a storm. This is the strangest year yet about our “normal” bird Winter visitors. Some of it is due to lack of snow cover (~2”), but our frequent fliers are not so frequent this year and the bird counts and flock sizes are significantly smaller. Except Morning Doves. We counted 42 at one time at the feeders during our bird count.

“…. and less people is usually good.”- Drew No people is even better. ;) I like the cold more than my joints; and they do complain.

Roy- I hope that you shake your illness soon.

I hope everyone has a decent Sunday

My +thughts, wishes, and prayers.

Good Morning!!!! 46F @ 6:30AM. A good deal of sunshine. High 58F. Winds N at 5 to 10 mph.

I've had good luck straightening things with a Harbor Freight Porta Power. Also broke a lot of stuff with it, too, so if you decide to go that way, Don, be careful!

Poured a lot of water over the van yesterday, covering all of the front end, and didn't get any leaks. So I'll start on the sides today.

Fastened another tarp over the firewood stacks, but it looks like I need to swap out a pallet today. So back off it comes. :confused2:

Got a material list put together for a new sawbuck, added it to the insurance claim, and did some measurements for adding decomposed granite to the claim as well. Then spent some time looking for the hardware from the old sawbuck that the fire took, and it was nowhere to be found. I just hope a tractor tire doesn't find it instead.

Took the side-by-side up to see my bodyshop buddy, and it ran just fine. New filter and separator seems to have solved the bogging problem. He, on the other hand, was pulling his hair out trying to figure out where his buried water pipes ran around the foundation of his burned house and to a house trailer that survived the fire. I helped him dig a little, then asked why he even cared? He knows were he wants water, PVC is cheap, and he has to rent a trencher anyway to get water where it hasn't been before. Told him to just run new pipe and quit screwing around digging holes in the ground. Then he told me an electrician was supposed to put the new power pole up yesterday, too, but didn't show up with any tools. And the neighbor that was going to dig the hole didn't have the right sized auger. I told him I had one, and if he came down and helped me put it on the tractor, I'd be happy to dig the hole for him. If he pounded the dent out of the tractor fender later. I think he liked that idea because he said he'd be down later.:D

And while the auger is on the tractor, I'll go prospecting for bedrock out where I want to build the shop. I also need to be able to measure the grade, so I've been shopping for a laser level. Anyone got a favorite?

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend, and the snow doesn't get too deep!

Looks like -2° for the low this morning. Yesterday was sunny and in the mid 20's for the high. Today is going to be about the same, they don't show much change until the middle of the week.

Went up to visit a neighbor and ended up helping him stack firewood for few hours. I did get a good lunch out of the deal.

My wife found a picture that she wants to put in a frame. I'll see if I have the stuff to do that and maybe get that started. Not much else going on.

Hope everyone has a enjoyable Sunday.
CWB.
