Rick, I replaced all the bulbs in my double fixtures around the house and garages with 90w equivalent dimable LEDs last year, no mud daubers or masons, in fact almost no bugs at all. Don’t have to clean those areas between house washings like I use to. I use dimables because mine are set to half power at dark, then go to full power when the beam is broken by movement.

Thanks. Good to know Randy. We also have four of the typical high pressure sodium fixtures. They draw bugs like crazy.

I'm considering replacing them with this 5000 lumen fixture from Sam's Club.

Yet another dry day for us, I still have a pile of paperwork to do but this weather is too good to miss being outside. My wife has me down for moving soil and filling holes in the driveway, while I want to get on with collecting wood that should have been split and stacked long ago. Not sure which of those will still be on the list unless I carry on after dark.

Wouldn't take long to get in this with an angle grinder, but thought some of you may like to see this absolutely stunning craftsmanship.Forged and Filed on Vimeo

That is insane... Clock work craftsmanship.

^^^^^^^^^^^ I agree. Awesome precision. And I was amazed by my friend who was/is a clock-smith. Eric thank you for sharing.

They have run into some snags... Both weather and material issues. The projected opening is late this summer / fall. There will be two restaurants when it reopens. One still called the "High Finance", and being a formal type dining area. The other will be more of a business casual atmosphere.

I can see it taking so long, they totally demolished the old and started the new building from scratch. Expensive proposition considering the very limited access to the site.

The history of that place is pretty interesting. It started as a "warming shack" way back when.

My daughter use to sell those pancake security lights when she was in commercial lighting for years, she really liked them, I would think either would be plenty of light. I am thinking about using two of them myself, my daughter told me about 16 to 20 ft height is ideal.

I have 3 of the same lights with plastic housings. Don’t know how long the housings will last. But they are very bright and do not need to warm up to get bright.

You have the LED lights Ron? Do they attract bugs?

Yes they are LED. They are on switches and not left on all the time. I have motion lights around the buildings. Which light my way as I go between buildings. The yard lights are used to light up yard when I need whole yard lit up. Never noticed bugs around them when on.

Thanks Ron. All mine are on switches as well.

If they don't attract a lot of bugs, I'll leave them on to turn on at dusk, off at dawn.

Good evening all. 40F this morning clear sky, calm wind. Wind picked up quite a bit, clouds increased to partly cloudy, and high temp was 66F. Went to chapel this morning and did dash after breakfast. Wife did a whole bone in ham from STL last night, It's GOOD!!. Was going to take down outside Christmas lights but we decided to play golf, then decided it was too windy to golf or lights.
The blacksmith video was amazing, would love to know how lonh he has been doing that, and how many hours to make?

11 degrees right now...high in the low 20's today.

-2and going to a high of 27°F. Winds ENE 17 mph. Snow starting this afternoon and continuing right through Wednesday afternoon. They say 5 cm today. That'll be 5" by the time it gets here and another 10 overnight.
The town of South River has already started their 'snow removal' program.

I'm going to Sundridge around 11 or so and get some fresh(er) greens.

Other than the town run I am going to sit back and watch the snow accumulate.

Have a good day all

Here in East Coast Canada it's -3 c (26.5 f.) and some light snow is falling. The coating of snow over the icy will make for some slippery driveway conditions. I have a few snow removal customers that help make ends meet. Before yesterday's rain the driveways were in spade condition with an inch of crusty packed snow. It was a matter of dropping the blower and go but that has all changed. There is ice in some areas and the gravel and rocks is exposed in others. Sending gravel through the blower and hitting bigger frozen rocks gets expensive. As for getting the driveways back in spade condition, I guess it's back to the drawing board.

Good morning, 28 earlier, 31 now 41 for a high they say. Some cold weather but not awful for the next week, with warm days mixed in.

Visited mom, but not much else yesterday, Ellen got a microwave replaced at the rental house and visited her parents. I had a calm Sunday and actually got bored.

Have a fine day gents, prayers all around.

My grandfather Knowles was a blacksmith, gunsmith, tool maker, clock maker, Carpenter, could read blueprints, and never finished 3rd grade. He spent a year in federal prison for moonshining, could shoot better than anyone I knew when he was in his 70s, except my mom.
What he passed to me was the belief that if someone else did it I could too.
