was a little bummed by the news this morning.
very pretty 13 year old Hispanic girl kidnapped three weeks ago right out of her home and they found the body
yesterday. They are asking anyone with video cameras in the area to give stored files to local police to review, I guess enough point towards streets so they can identify cars. Mine does. Heartbreaking to local Lumberton community South of here.
there is a special spot in the deepest HEdoubleL for those who do this to kids.

Her younger sister saw her being taken. Think that kid is not going to have nightmares?
So hard to protect your kids all the time. And then they think you are unfair or unreasonable
when they don't know what is lurking out there.
My hat is off to all parents, I think parenting is a lot harder now vs 60 years ago.
Growing up in the 50's in the country, we didn't worry about anything like this.

I remember as a kid wanting to experience everything. Just didn't know all the things that weren't good for me.
Happy to have survived the process. Kids unfortunately have to look at new adults like wild mushrooms, just can't trust them
unless you are absolutely sure. In this case a snatch and grab and nothing to prevent it. Thankfully kids are now getting schooling in
this. I sure was never told to be careful around strangers. We were told to help strangers... today that is nice until it sure isn't.
The bad apples are just too bad to ignore.
A prayer to the parents of that young girl and so many others just like her.
A prayer that it may never happen again.

ok, on a lighter note, it's still really cold out!

Drinking first cup of coffee. 25° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 31° with cloudy skies. Christmas tree is up but needs decorations. Found other little projects to do. No plans for today yet.

:welcome: FarmanJoe to Good Morning thread.

Don, what is a iPhone 8 EX? Like your 12 days of Christmas.

RNG, hope you are going home soon. My iPad has seen me type this so many times it already has the next word displayed.

Gas Buddy is available on a PC if you do not have a smartphone.

Prayers for all.

Good Morning All.

23 going to 46. Nice dawn pre-sunrise starting to color the east.

Hello FarmanJoe!

Wife returned last night from taking her parents home and Christmas-decorating their house.

Now it is our turn to begin decorating. I ordered new solar LED lights to put on my small barn since the old ones died...should arrive today with lots of filters...a box of a dozen 20x24x2 HVAC filters, and oil filters for both vehicles.

Good Morning!!!! 55F here in Chico, CA. Rain likely with a few thunderstorms. High near 55F. Winds ESE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Localized flooding in recent burn areas.

Hope you like what you see at the dealership, Drew! Don't forget your camera...

You guys are killin' me with your gas prices! It's at least a buck more a gallon here. Diesel seems to be about the same, though, closing in on $4/gal. Recalling the gas rationing of the late '70s, though, I'm just happy you can buy all you want any time you want.

Let us know how you like the 8EXs, Ed. My old eyes are tellin' me it's time for a bigger screen, even though my pockets might not like it as much as the SE I have now.

Last night's Camp Fire press conference didn't bring much good news. At least for the living. The sheriff said they've searched all they're going to for bodies, with the current count at 88 and 190 something still unaccounted for. Unbelievably, they're keeping the evacuation orders in effect for most of the burn zones for at least another week, and possibly ten days, and then only if the current storms don't cause problems with downed trees and the like. I'm not much of a Monday Morning Quarterback, but it seems as though the main effort so far has been on body recovery and not on letting people that survived the fire get on with their lives. The excuse given is they need to make the burned areas safe for the sheeple, when the truth is they can never make the burn areas totally safe. Property owners have that job ahead of them, but they can't do it as long as they're evacuated. I guess common sense isn't very common anymore.

Hang in there, folks, Friday's comin'!

It was 20° this morning and partly cloudy. It was mostly cloudy yesterday and it started snow in afternoon ended up with about 3 inches overnight. Today is going to be overcast with a 80% chance of snow later in the day. The high will be in the mid 30's with a light wind.

I'm about done with the tool box, it still looks bad but all the drawers work and top is in good shape and it has wheels now. One of the neighbors has a couple sets of ATV tire chins that we can make fit the side by side. They are heavier then the ones I've been using. Hope to get that done later to day.

LS... I will look for that switch, but I think I may have buried it the last time I moved snow. But I will keep looking.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

$2700 of concrete stain and sealer ordered. Can hardly wait for that fun to start - power wash, stain, neutralize, seal.

Welcome Farman Joe

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Good morning to all! Not a bad start this morning, low was only 42. Going to another balmy 55. Tonight a front moves in with high winds in front of it, temps dropping to the 20's. Early morning brings a chance of snow, rain, mixed precip. Looks like 3 days of that, temps slowly creeping downward to a high of only 30 on Sunday.

I had a great nights sleep last night. Took a bit at first to find that "sweet spot" position of comfort, but only woke up one time....WOOHOO! Not too much pain this morning...knee doing good. Haven't done any weight bearing yet, so the jury is still out. Fingers (and toes) still crossed hoping for a final resolve to this.

Saw a story on the news this morning about a small community up in arms over a Christmas light display in New Jersey. The town is going to charge the homeowner $3000 per night each time he turns on his display. They say it's to provide police security and traffic control. They are describing his display just shy of a 'public nuisance'.....really?

At least he's going to stand his ground....1st amendment right of freedom of speech. Also stating his choice of freedom of religion. Good for him! He said he'll pay the first few nights of the town's 'fee' out of his pocket, they started a go fund me page to help with the costs.

Worst part about this was the loss of a charitable contribution if they put a stop to it. The family started collecting donations for wounded service veterans over the past few years. 100% of the donations go to veterans. They had donated over $30,000 previously.

This family has been doing this display for the past 10 years and it was a local attraction. Someone new moved into the neighborhood and complained to the mayor. Maybe they can make a better donation to the community? Probably not....

I have one thing to say to that person... SIT DOWN, SHUT UP, AND SUCK IT UP FOR A FEW WEEKS! You'll be a better person if you do....

Ok, I'm done with my rant. Thank you.

33°F and partly cloudy this morning, going up to 54° today. Some rain expected this evening.

I was somewhat surprised to see gas here this morning at $2.26/gal. $20 actually filled my tank for the first time in awhile. I recently stumbled across an old Facebook post from several years ago where I was elated that gas prices had dropped back below $4/gal. The Jeep Liberty I had back then was costing me $100/week in gasoline just to get to and from work. I don't miss that.

Welcome to the Good Morning thread, FarmanJoe.

Wife called me yesterday evening on the way home from one of her dog trainings, and said to feed the fuzzy butts early so we could go pick up her car. I assumed she meant the Sorento that's in the shop. Nope. We went to Fairview Heights to the Kia dealer and picked up her new Niro. It's a 2018, the last one they had on the lot. It's the sport hybrid package, and has every bell and whistle with the sole exception of a sunroof. There is even a nifty app that the salesman loaded on her phone that will notify both her and their service department if the car's self-diagnostic detects a problem. She was all smiles when she got it home. Fits nicer in the garage, too, as compared to the much larger Sorento. Sitting next to my Soul, it's a little longer, but about the same height and width. The cargo area in the back is more rounded at the top, where the Soul is more squared. She said she didn't notice any transition in the engine until she was pulling into the garage and actually heard the engine shut off. If she hadn't heard it, she wouldn't have known it had switched over to electric. I'm still a bit skeptical of hybrids over the long term, but the fact that she averaged 51mpg on the drive home is pretty impressive (my Soul averages about 37mph).

The high today was 32F Wind WSW 7 gusting to 17 mph. 60% chance of flurries tonight.

The good old reliable Hydro went out at 4 A.M. and came back on at 11. I was at the garage for my yearly oil change at 8. No juice so no oil change, but I went to Sundridge for another purpose and when I got back I only dropped onto the garage for a quote, but ended up getting the oil change as the lights came back on just then.

Regular gas in South River, ON $1.099/L ($4.15/US gallon in CDN money). This is the lowest I have seen since last summer.

A trip to North Bay tomorrow. The monthly shopping trip.

Have a good day all

Good morning all, was down in the 20's last night and going to 41 and mostly sunny today. Woke up with a bad head ache last night and was up from midnight to 6 am. doing fine now. Going to get wife's I Phone worked on, it acts like she never used her phone sence 2016.

RNG. I like the 8 ex, it is just like my 6 as far as how it works and the larger screen is very nice. It has some new fetures that I just ignored and don't rely know what they are. It is harder to fit in my pocket. I think I would be getting upset about not getting home. Prayers sent.

LS sounds good, prayers sent.

Have a great day, prayers sent. Ed

Good morning all, we warmed up getting down to high 30s, low 40s at night, getting up to mid 40s, low 50s during the day.. Coffee tastes especially good this morning after rough night with back pain (muscle ache, some sharp pain, think I stressed it last weekend moving stuff in shop). Almost done with Christmas shopping, late on getting tree up this year (we have fake tree due to wife's allergies and usually put it up after we finish black friday shopping)..

Good Afternoon everyone!!!!

The now "typical" 4:00AM start to the morning, but at least there was nothing to shovel off the living room rug:cool:. Those 4:00AM walks walking around in the dark with a headlamp are eye openers. Actually I can see resident wildlife easier by headlamp. Like a lot of you I had a decent slip/fall on the ice that now necessitates wrapping my "good" knee and ankle prior to venturing outdoors. I have elastic knee and ankle braces on order; hopefully UPS will deliver them soon. My old knee and ankle braces were designed for wrong side. I walk my property paths daily; I have seen no bear tracks or scat for several weeks. I am not taking my bird feeders down at this point. I have no clue as to why the bears have not been more active in my area.

El Nino winters in theory should be wetter and "warmer" for the NE, but statistically at least for my area some of the greatest seasonal snow accumulations and individual storm snow levels have occurred during these El Nino Winters. It is a winter wonderland here at JaysterAcres, and there is green grass down in the CT River valley 24 miles away. I have a lot of tree damage from the recent wind and snow/ice storms. I plan to have a tree service take down all the trees near the driveway and house. This may happen sooner than later. We'll see.

I want to thank you for the "welcome backs." It's nice to be back here. I do not plan on expanding my "social" media world any time soon.

FarmanJoe- Welcome. Post freely and often.

Ted- It's nice to read that you finally got some restful and relatively pain free sleep last night. I hope the sleep pattern continues and you knee rehabs quickly with a fully functional knee. Thanks for the recipe.

Kyle- Brogen's rear jaw muscles have atrophied due to a rare canine autoimmune disorder. He can only open his mouth around a 1/2". He can barely grab a rice cake between his teeth.

Bruce- Thanks for the pumpkin suggestion. I/We have an oversupply of delicata squash from our garden. I need to see if this variety of squash works as well as pumpkin. Brogen is getting some squash tonight. It can't hurt. Again, thanks.

Drew- I agree with your post. It's so sad. I saw/experienced a lot of pain in my years working with the victims of violence/physical/******/emotional abuse. I have memories that I wish I could forget. The almost daily news reports of violence directed against the helpless does not help. :(

RNG- I too hope that you can return home and start reliving your life again. Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts about this catastrophe.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for all.

J
