The low this morning wasn't to bad 32°, yesterday was partly cloudy and in the mid 40's. Today going to be back in the 40's with a chance of snow this afternoon and over night. It's supposed to be only a few inches of snow with the wind 10-20 mph.

Going to work on the tool box and see if I can get it back together and maybe put tire chains on the side by side.

LS ... Glad everything went well for you.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

RNG, hope you get home soon. Do you get enough rain to catch an emergency supply?

Average annual rainfall here is about 25", all of which falls in the winter months. A 10' x 10' x 40' cistern would hold close to 30,000 gallons, enough to run 3 30 GPM fire hoses for five and a half hours. It would run a water cannon sprinkler system around the house for considerably longer. But runoff from the "roof" over such a cistern would only amount to a couple of feet, and I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be letting rain water in there without the sort of filter system you've developed. That would be a factor if the cistern is plumbed into the fresh water supply for the house. Otherwise, maybe I could just shock it a couple times a year with chlorine and not worry about microbial growth?:confused2:

Good Morning!!!! 56F here in Chico, CA. Considerable cloudiness with occasional rain showers. High 57F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

We're supposed to get an inch overnight, and all the weather guessers are predicting death and destruction from flash flooding in the fire burn scar. The Sheriff'll probably get another week of evacuations out of it...

We're not made of rubber like we used to be, are we? Too easy to break bones or tear cartilage, even in youngsters like Ted. Who I hope is spending the next few days in bed, giving that new knee a fighting chance to make him happy for a long time to come.

Two more evac zones opened up yesterday, but both were only minimally impacted by the Camp Fire to begin with. Lots of rancor developing among the folks in my same boat, at least if the comments on the sheriff's Facebook page are any indication. Some are even starting to call congressmen and threaten lawsuits. Seems like anyone with a lame excuse gets a pass to get in, but homeowners that live there get no grace. A FUBAR situation if there ever was one.

Happy Hump Day folks!

RNG, I'm impressed with your firefighting knowledge and determination. Likely why your house is still standing now...
Having your own full cistern is a wonderful idea.

Two maintenance guys from local community college just left after an hour of taking exercise equipment out of my house, a Bowflex and a Tunturi recumbent bike. I still use my treadmill in the winter but not the other two. I asked for three strong guys and got two old guys...sigh, but...one was head of maintenance, had all his tools, and he took the Bowflex apart for both fit and weight help, and they took that giant thing down the stairs and out the door without a scratch anywhere. Brains over brawn, experience over blunt force. Best part is one of the guys used to be a mechanic at the Massey dealer I use and was a farmer himself. I told him I had a nice artificial xmas tree for him, and he said his wife would love it, so he took a pic of it, but he said he personally would be more interested in seeing what was in my barn.
So I helped the local young men who work out in that community weight room, and apparently they had neither of these pieces of equipment and were really appreciative. I'll get a little write off and everyone goes home happy. And in my case, I can now finish off the second floor instead of having to hide it. Good project for this winter.

Garden club ladies coming to inspect my new sunroom plants and then we are doing lunch.

time to go vacuum...;)

I知 afraid your winter will be filled with heavy wet snow

18°F and partly cloudy this morning, going up to 35° today. The clouds make a nice canvas for some colorful sunrise painting.

Good luck with the knee, LS. Sounds like you're off to a good start.

David, my skepticism stems from entirely too much experience. The boy is already into us for over $6K from a previous car payment arrangement and a couple of loans, with not a single payment ever made. Of course, a contract is only as good as the willingness to enforce it. So, there's no point making another one for him to just ignore as well. Bottom line is that he'll never truly appreciate anything he hasn't paid for. And, as long as his Mother and grandmother keep bailing him out of the consequences of his poor choices, there's no incentive for him to stop making those choices. He doesn't get his license back until 06 January, so she says he's not getting the vehicle until then. He hasn't even had a driver's license for four years yet (his 20th birthday will be in March), and this will be his 9th vehicle already.
It's a major source of frustration for me.

Randy your thoughts are interesting on this upcoming winter a lot of folklore there my grandmother said the same thing. If you start off with an ice storm that痴 all you will have.

The tale for this winter lies in January痴 outlook and it痴 not clear yet but if I had to guess more of the same cold milder wet rinse repeat

That痴 just some anecdotal evidence I致e seen in my lifetime, I知 not claiming any knowledge of it or ability to predict. I致e noticed that often it seems cold fall is followed by mild winter and cool spring.

46° here this morning about 15° warmer than yesterday morning. Forecast is for high of 72° today and will be warming into high 70's / low 80's next few days.

New tractors, this time of year, make Christmas special regardless of their color. . We upgraded our small tractor to a 55 HP this time last year.

IMG_0204.jpg

I've got a dead tree to remove today so ...... that will keep both tractors and grapples busy. This tree has been down for a while but, pastures have been too wet to get into, with tractors, for a couple of months.

Hoping all aches and pains heal soon.

LS .... that's good news on your surgery. Just take it easy for a while.

RNG .... hope you get home soon! As a retired road warrior, I can tell you (and Dorothy would agree) There's no place like Home!

Hoping for an excellent day for everyone.

Prayers to all.

Not awake enough yet to decide where to put today’s efforts.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Good morning everyone. I could not post here at TBN and not check in here. My absence here was related to my need to rid myself of drama and unnecessary BS and establish and maintain my priorities. Actually the BS on a thread at another site led to my taking a break from social media. Personally, it’s a long story, but a whole lot of “nothing” transpired. And no I was not medically or psychiatrically hospitalized nor incarcerated. I did gain back 5 of the 30#’s I lost.
:embarrassed::(

This is the wettest Fall we have ever experienced here. I was not willing to take the tractor very far from the driveway due to the R1’s rutting up everything. The subsurface springs here became surface water; even the recent -3F did not really stop the flow. Monday's/Tuesday’s 7” of heavy snow really messed up the trees around here. My “pet” dogwood lost most of its limbs:(, but my ancient peach tree seems(?) unaffected. All kinds of tree fall in my woods.

32F with light snow. 1.5" of new snow fell last night/this AM. 19” of snow has fallen here so far this season; most of it fell while my tractor was in the shop for maintenance :(. The driveway was pretty ratty looking with the Tundra packing down the snow and busting through the roadside snow banks. When the tractor was delivered I had to dig my way back through the plowed snow bank. Never had to “dig in” before.

This is shaping to be classic El Nino winter so far around here. We’ll see.

I need to catch up. It appears that those on the mend have mended, surgeries were successful, and there are new injuries and challenges from the frequent fliers here.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for all.

J

JAY! Welcome back! Yes you do have a lot of catching up to do. You didn't mention Brogen....I was thinking he had taken you on a loooong sleigh ride:D

   / Good morning!!!! #85,013
"Home from surgery. Reported as "nothing earth-shattering" found. Meniscus had degraded some, they removed additional portions. Some tibial bone was " rough", so that was smoothed. Some "debri" was removed. The actual surgery took about an hour. I did not want to wake up from the anesthesia....way too good of a nap....haven't slept so good in the last 9 months

I think the knee is finally fixed. There is minimal pain, feels better than the entire last 6 months. Hopefully it stays this way. No weight bearing for the next 3-5 days, getting used to the crutches again. Now if I can just get myself to remain bedridden for a couple of days."- Ted

Ted- thanks. It's great to read that the surgery was successful. I hope you can handle being bed bound. "Some people" seem incapable of handling relaxation appropriately..

My 19" of snow is well compacted along the walking path along the perimeter. Breaking trail trough snow is a decent workout. It's too icy to walk the hill trails at this point. Brogen still requires a choke chain and probably will need one forever. At least he no longer wants to chase all moving lifeforms. He is not a model citizen in the kennel. He now goes into "solitary" for kennel boarding due to his bad behaviors directed against a great dane. He (on leash) drug a staff person across the courtyard and took down a great dane. It took the entire staff at the kennel to pull him off the great dane. At least he is naturally "muzzled." He still loves going to the kennel. He's the first dog we ever had that liked kennel life. He seems to be experiencing some food allergy which has necessitated the purchase and use of a pretty HD rug shampooer. Brogen accidents are measured by shovel load :D Trying to figure out what is triggering his GI response is proving difficult.:( He is already on a limited ingredient, grain free diet.

   / Good morning!!!! #85,014
Jay, way back a few years ago, we had a large German Shepard that had a food allergy. We would wake up in the morning and curtains would be half eaten, the arm of a wing back chair eaten off, blankets/comforters eaten...even a 3' diameter hole in the carpet....minimal amounts of fibers would be left...he literally ate it. Usually the day prior to these events, he would have severe GI issues. Found out he had numerous allergies to ingredients in commercial dog food, even the 'good stuff'.

We ended up doing a full 'fresh food' diet. We would make a home cooked 'doggie meatloaf' using all people food. Within 2 weeks no more problems. He finally put on weight to where he should have been, coat became beautiful, and he had way more energy. All in all, it was also more cost effective to make our own, just spent more time to prepare.

It's now been almost 20 years, every dog we have had since, including our international champion Giant Schnauzer, and our mini Schnauzers are still on the home cooked diet. I had recently been in contact with a Standard Schnauzer breeder who said he would not offer any health guarantee on his pups unless they were on a 'fresh diet' .

There are numerous websites that talk about fresh and raw diets. We did not like the raw diet aspect. If you want our recipe, I can PM it to you, or if anyone else is interested, I'll post it here.

Jay, I totally get your hiatus from social media. Sometimes life is too short to waste on Internet idiots, and there seem to be a LOT of them out there!

Good of you to check in so we at least know you didn't drop off the edge of the world, though.

Hang in there...

   / Good morning!!!! #85,017
Ted- It appears that Brogen is reacting to dairy products. He was not happy with the ban on yogurt and dairy products. So far dairy products and spicy leftovers seem to trigger him. This is not surprising. A lot of dogs have difficulty with lactose. I/we are interested in your "fresh food" canine diet. Thank you.

RNG- Thanks. "Social" media BS was taking more of my limited life energy than I cared to expend for idiots and stupidity. For a brief period I was considering returning to the "Prozac Nation," but did not. I am happy to see that you are at home and posting with all those catastrophic wildfires in CA. What a tragedy.

David- Thanks. I hope that all is well with you and Sophie and that life is beginning to return to normal in HI. Another tragedy that should be still newsworthy. Displaced people and families is still a major life stressor for all involved.

   / Good morning!!!! #85,018
Good morning to all! Low temp this morning was a balmy 42 degrees, going up to 55. Major change coming in from CWB's territory tommorow, dropping our temps to the low 30's and snow predicted for Thursday night and Friday. Then another system with more snow on Sunday.

Told the daughter to come down from Colorado on Sunday instead of Monday morning...I won't be able to go rescue her this time...she did get a necessity bag in her Jeep though.

Ed, take care and baby that arm, trust me it won't get better if you don't. Prayers to you for getting better.

Ron, same thing...good luck at th Doc's next week.

RNG, still hoping your time away from home becomes shorter as we speak!

Claye, glad to hear your wife's shoulder is getting better...I'm sure that weather up there isn't helping. Speaking of which, can you make sure that snow stays up there and doesn't come down here like they say? Unless Thomas comes up with that switch to turn off winter.

PJ, I surely do wish you the best of luck dealing with the situation. It's hard to have a past history like that and be able to logically justify doing it again, but on the other hand, once that motherly instinct kicks in....well it's just better to just give in...I hope you find an amicable solution.

Drew, nice that you were able to find a home for the exercise equipment where it will go to good use. A couple of years ago, I had a spinning bike, weight bench with free weights, a seven station universal machine, and a treadmill. Couldn't find a home for any of them...even the local PD or Fire station. They weren't able to take them because they weren't "safety certified"....really? Ended up taking them all down to a Goodwill store. They thought it was great.

Everyone have a great mid-week(hump day). Prayers sent out.

PS: I have actually been a good boy...using the crutches faithfully (except for one brief forgetful moment), and actually laying in bed with it elevated. I do have the countdown timer going: 25 hours and 35 minutes left of non-weight bearing mode....then I can at least try it a little:D

Tragedy indeed. But the unaccounted list, which at one time reached over 2000 souls, has dropped to 158, with 88 confirmed fatalities. Much of the town of Paradise was reduced to ashes, but a surprising number of businesses and houses remain. Most of the burn scar, including my own home, is still under evacuation orders, while most of the focus seems to be on fixing infrastructure in Paradise, even in areas where there is nothing to return to.:confused2:
