Great pics LS!

Kubota will average 40-60 % of retail at 2000 hours, depending on model and options.

37 and blustery with a high of 45 and strong NW wind. Pseudo Winter came early this year, which often is followed by a mild real winter. Like 2011/12.

Gotta put up more decorations today now that the downpour is over. Have a good day all and God bless.

Question your statement above concerning weather do you think that’s what our winter will be like?

Having spent 71 winters (spent 1 in Florida) in this neck of the woods, I can tell you right now that there will be NO bugs and lots of NO bug days. Oh, there WILL be plenty of snow, but there will be NO bugs.
Snow I can deal with, cold I can deal with, but the dam bugs I can't deal with. The DIL belly aches all day every day about the bugs in summer. She knew before she came to this country from Sheffield, UK that we had lots of bugs, but she came anyway.
She did not know that we had as much snow as we do, though.

We have some bugs here in SE Michigan. But not big nasty ones that take big bites like are bred in northern Michigan & Ontario.

Thanks Randy, I hope you are feeling better as well.
Strictly based on past years that I remember, several times we had cold weather and snow before Christmas, often turned mild in January and February, but also cool March and April weather. No idea if there is any connection, just some personal experience.

Question for you guys. At how many hours would you stop looking at a used tractor?
Kubota is coming up on 3 years old and 1,100 hours. 3,000 hour dpf. I really don稚 want to go past that filter life. Do I look at trading in next year before 1,500 hours or keep it to 2,000-2,500 or see how many hours a kubota will run?

Farmer, someone will always buy your used tractor, whatever the hours or age, it's only a question of how many chickens you need to raise to pay for the replacement. How are your tires doing, they are often the big expense item ? Some would say sell while there is still enough tread left for a light user not to worry about, or change tires and keep the tractor for a few more years - your engine should be nowhere near the end of life.

I've recently sold my Iseki (I've been waiting for Drew's new tractor to arrive before announcing this, but he keeps coming up with excuses to delay delivery until his comes gift wrapped for Christmas :D).

Business wise, it was a stupid thing to do, if profit was the only consideration I should have kept it for several more years. It was built in 2012 and when I bought it 2 years later it was immaculate, having done only a few demonstrations. Another 4 years on and by some amazing strokes of luck, there was still not a scratch on it and the tires looked good (at least, they did when not covered in sheep poop:)). I had intended to retro fit an air suspension seat, then realised they were less than half the price if bought at the same time as a new tractor and that's when I thought if I was ever going to sell my much loved Iseki, this would be the ideal time. Still couldn't justify it on cost, then reasoned to myself, I have been very fortunate in life - why spoil it and risk having death bed regrets about not buying a new tractor ?

Good afternoon. Nothing quite like a forecast of a belt of rain coming over fast, confirmed by a blue, yellow and red radar map, to give encouragement to get out while it's still dry and have a late breakfast. 3 hours later and a simple bowl of cereals has never tasted better - and lunch is only 5 minutes away too.

Don, I have the 14" Ego chainsaw, my reasoning being shorter bars are slightly easier to handle. If I want to cut anything larger in diameter, I use a 2 stroke Husky. The 16" EGO datasheet says the chain runs at 13.5 m/s compared to 12 m/s on the 14", but I have no complaints at all with the way the 14" cuts softwood, elm, ash, or oak.

Both have the same capacity oil tank. I reckon the optimum battery size would be 2.5 Ah. With a bigger battery you will just need to remember to stop before the battery is flat to refill the oil tank.

Here's the inside pics....again you guys have to decide the results of the competition....

Competition with the Wife, OH NO. You will always loose. It is the gentleman thing to do.

If kept inside - A 3 year old tractor with 1100 hours is practically new. A 6-10 year old tractor with 2500 hours is an average used tractor, in my opinion. A tractor with over 5,000 hours and over 10 years old I would tend to compare with new for the real value.

Good morning! Colder than most this morning at 30˚ heavy frost light cloud cover.
bah humbug broke a tooth last night so today need to find a dentist locally or a 2 1/2 hour drive to my old dentist.

It's 27° this morning and overcast. Today is going to be cloudy with a light wind and in the mid 40's. We have a chance of more snow tomorrow night.

Made the trip down to Utah yesterday. Everything went will at the Dr's appointment for my wife. It ended up being a long day.

Making another trip to town this morning to see her therapist and do some shopping. That will take a good part of the day. Hope to work on some things when we get back.

LS ... Wishing the best for you today.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

19°F and some light snow flurries this morning, going up to 29° today.

Wife has been thinking of getting a new vehicle recently. The plan was to start looking in the Spring next year. Her encounter this past weekend with a sudden wiggle the front end of her 2012 Sorento has her looking a bit earlier now. She's looking at another Kia, but not another Sorento. She's had two of them, and really likes them, but she's wanting something a little smaller. She seems to favor either the Sportage or the Niro, and I think she's leaning towards the Niro. She has an appointment with the local dealer (if 20 miles away is still considered "local") to do some test driving on Wednesday.

The boy called her over the weekend to tell her that he thinks the engine is shot in his Jeep Grand Cherokee. She thinks he was hinting at her to help him buy a replacement. So, she told him that she's going to look at getting a new car this week, and is considering giving him the Sorento instead of trading it in. I'm a little on the fence about this (for a couple of reasons), but she's already determined to do it, so it's pretty much a done deal. I looked up the NADA value last night, and found with 200K miles it's still worth $6800 as a clean trade-in. It's a good vehicle, and probably has a lot of life left in it, as she's kept it in very good shape. We both know the boy won't take care of it, though.

Buppies, my Wife's EDC is a Shield 9mm. It's a very nice-shooting little gun, and even fits nicely in my larger hand. She got it new about 3-1/2 years ago for $379. Is the one you're looking at an older one or the newer 2.0?

Eric, you noted that you sold your Iseki, but you didn't tell us what you got to replace it. We'll also need pictures, you know.

Fortunately I managed a quick snap this morning, just before the rain came (It is still a little shy and wanted to hide behind the bales I was moving :)).

new iseki.jpg

Yes it's another Iseki - aren't I boring ! I did have a look at a couple of other colours and also tried a non-hydro Iseki, but felt most comfortable in an uprated version of the HST model I had before.

The loader is from the same manufacturer I had before (MX), this is a new model - not as elegant as the previous one but looks a bit tougher and with a better reach and lifting capacity.

PJ, a good opportunity for your wife to be happy with a new Kia and happy her son is taken care of.
You have a few miles to go before I think you can sleep on this one...or a few more years of growing up.
But then I don't think I've entirely grown up either...

Brownies to food pantry, yes the ladies come over and thank me, and send me little notes in the mail,
from my "vegetable ladies". We are all trying to spread the love, make the world a little better place.
And they are delighted I'm growing collards next Spring, it's their top vegetable request.
I think half an acre of collards will be more than plenty. And they will pick them too.
No way I can do stoop labor like that any more.

Father and son carpentry team here who are my absolutely favorite tradespeople.
Both genuine finish carpenters, always looking how to do things better.
My garden shed will no longer look third world when they are done.
And they are remarkably inexpensive. I keep telling him he should charge more,
so he can retire, and once
again he was moaning the blues about needing money.
Outstanding work quality at low prices.
He may have difficulty saving or he doesn't charge enough to save enough.
Us retired financial planners are always thinking of ways to fix someone's finances.
But oh does one need to keep that old important saying
right up front, as in advice not requested is often not appreciated

Good Morning!!!! 52F @ 7:45AM here in Chico, CA. Rain early...then remaining cloudy with showers in the afternoon. High 54F. Winds SE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Rainfall near a quarter of an inch.

We're in for another series of storms this week, but the strongest will only deliver an inch or so of rain and blow at 15 mph, pretty mild. It's still enough to have the disaster folks cry the sky is falling, and drag out the evacuations. At least that's the impression I got from watching last night's press conference, despite all the "making good progress" proclamations from the sheriff. Someone from the county said they now know the condition of all the roads. They've had a map showing all the surviving dwellings up for more than a week. Seems like they have the means to let homeowners use known safe roads to get to their surviving homes, but perhaps the thought never occurred to them? Time for more emails and phone calls...:pullinghair:

Back to town this morning to pick up concrete stain and sealer after I double check my calculations.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Those would be the Pine Beetles. They will bite right through your shirt and take a sizeable chunk out of you.

RNG, thats just stupid thet wont let you back to your house. Just not right.

   / Good morning!!!! #84,959
RNG, I'm another one who can't understand why they won't let you go home if the fire is over and the roads are clear, .

Perhaps the angle to take is that, if they keep on preventing everyone returning to homes that are still standing, the next time there is a fire people are not going to be so willing to evacuate, which will only lead to more deaths.

Exactly! If someone's house was left standing, the obvious conclusion is that it'll survive in the next fire, too. But fire is rather capricious, and like the stock market, past performance is not a predictor of future success.

The only reason I left this time is that PG&E, the local utility, preemptively cut power to my home and I lost water pressure. That left me unable to fight a fire if it came my way. That won't happen again, as I plan to install a large standby generator with an automatic startup triggered by loss of grid power. I'll also add more water storage, and more concrete/gravel/decomposed granite around the house to create a wider fire safe zone.
