31 and going down to a high of 28F. Wind NW 7 mph. It sure looks pretty out with the snow coming down, heavy at times. We have about 3" on the ground and a lot more coming down.
Historically speaking, whatever Gaylord, MI gets we usually get, with some added for the lake water a storm will pick up crossing lake Michigan and Georgian Bay.
Block heater on tractor already turned on.

It looks like I will be doing the kitchen drain myself. I cannot seem to get a plumber out, I think because it is 'hunting season'. That is the only reason I can figure out. I do have a reputation for paying in cash on the spot. That used to account for something, but not anymore I guess.

IF I remember my 7th grade volume formula right I think to find the volume of a cylinder it is;
V=PDL (3.14[PI]x3"[D]x240"[L]) = 2260.8 cubic inches to change into gallons would be 12x12x12=1728cubic inches. 2260.8/1728=1.3 gallons. Correct me if I am mistaken, but somehow I have it in my head that one gallon equals 1 cubic foot. Eric Salop, HELP! You know the imperial system better than I do, I think.

Stay safe RNG

Have a good day all

L4N;

1 cubic ft. = 7.48 gal.

1 gal. = 0.133681 cubic ft. (231 cubic inches)

Lots of deceiving advertising out there for Medicare supplemental and Advantage plans.
Find someone that is a specialist in all forms of Medicare insurance. I found most of the calls are for Advantage plans. Mostly because theses plans pay the largest commission. But may offer less when you read the fine print.
I checked my Medicare account recently. Medicare paid about $80k for my arm surgery a month ago. Balance was paid by my BCBS C plan.
All the Supplemental plans coverage are the same. It's your choice which one you want. F being the one with most coverage. Prices do vary from carrier to carrier.
Do not wait too long. There are penalties for not signing up within a given time.

Buppies, I am on a retiree healthcare plan now through my former employer, and it contracts with VIA Benefits to handle the transition to Medicare, etc. VIA is a big national health exchange company. I think if you go to their website you can enter your zip and DOB to shop for coverage in your area. It doesn't look like VIA charges us any fees since I comparison shopped with a similar website through the NRA partner (Medicare.com...not the government's site...medicare.gov) and I went directly to the issuer of one Medicare advantage plan I was looking at, and no price diff.

When I login to VIA, it shows a co-branding with my former employer, but I think this link takes to their "generic" website.

Via Benefits – This way to personalized benefits

Let me know what you find out. I'll do the same.

Bird, there are a lot of choices, which I think can you allow us to buy down the amount of risk we want to pay for...but I agree that the annual enrollment period swamps us with calls and advertisements. I was watching one TV program this week, and every advertisement was a long commercial for one of the Medicare plans.

It's a little warmer this morning 31°. Yesterday was in the high 40's and sunny with a little breeze. Today is going to be in the mid 40's and partly cloudy with a 15-20 wind.

I got most of the stuff done yesterday from the hunting trip. Just a few little thing left to do.

I got signed up for Medicare last month, I hope I did everything right, part B and D was a little confusing to me. But I got it done with the help of my wife, she did hers a few years ago. We'll save some money over the insurance I had before.

RNG. I'm still hope the very best for you. Hope you get back and find all our work payed off a few years ago.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.
CWB.

Good Morning!!!! 35F @ 6:00AM. Some clouds this morning will give way to generally sunny skies for the afternoon. Areas of smoke and haze are possible, reducing visibility at times. High 73F. Winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph.

The above info is for Chico, CA, my hopefully temporary home until I can get back up to Yankee Hill.

Hope those of you dealing with fresh snow manage to safely cope. The images are... chilling!:eek:

Thanks for all the moral support, folks. It's a real roller coaster ride right now, and believe me, every little bit helps. The photos and videos of the destruction continue to pour in, especially on social media, and it's not a pretty sight. Death tolls in Paradise alone will soon skyrocket if some of the rumors I've heard turn out to be true. Near as I can tell, power is still off at the homestead, and any way in is roadblocked to keep people safe and looters out until utility workers can get power lines off the roads and fire the state can get the debris cleared. There's a ton of misinformation going around as well, all of which has to be verified with official sources. Never the less, my host and I will make a try at getting home today, just as we did yesterday morning to get back here. As long as we see no active fire and hit no roadblocks, we'll keep going.

Yesterday I missed the satellite tracker checkin message from the van that's still parked on the property, and I was starting to lose hope that the house made it. Earlier this morning I was digging through email on the laptop and found the tracker message! Last night it really started to hit home what it would be like to loose everything but a couple of motorcycles, my truck, a laundry basket full of clothes, and two suit cases. All that time spent earlier this year finding a homeowners insurance company will certainly pay off, but what I find most depressing are the countless hours working through the insurance process, getting the debris cleared, drawing up plans for new construction, then watching like a hawk while the work is done. I'm not sure I'm up to it. In fact, I'm tempted to wash my hands of the whole thing, take the loss, and start again in a hopefully safer place. My heart goes out to Larro, who seems to be in very much the same shoes. Hang in there, buddy, we're all pullin' for ya!

Preying on my mind now is just not knowing if there's anything to go home to. I gave up trying to sleep at about 3 this morning, and that unanswered question prompted me to email both my state and federal representatives, and even the President, to ask them why there's nowhere I can go to view current high resolution satellite imagery of the burned areas to help prepare me for what awaits when the evacuation orders are lifted. I seriously doubt anything can be done soon enough to help in this disaster, but since mega fires are part of the new normal, something should be done. Toward that end, I've started a campaign on Facebook to get people to write their Congress Critters and encourage them to get the images up on line, with appropriate privacy protections of course. But that last qualifier will probably be enough to ensure it never happens...

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!
