Good morning! 75˚ heading to 90˚ Brother picked up Mom's old F150 yesterday, one less thing to take care of. She has not driven it for a year and a half so she thinks she won't miss it. 10 years ago My dad and I needed new trucks at the same time so we went out shopping together. They had a good year end deals going but with limited selection. We ended up buying the exact same truck and same color. I have 76K miles on mine and Mom had 41K miles on her's.

Buppies, you know your Dr. will think you have been to Hippie Hollow on Lake Travis.

Poured second cup of coffee. 66° with light rain this morning. Heading to 74° with scattered thunderstorms. Got insulation put up in attic yesterday. Plus a few other small projects. Putting new handles on cabinets was a failure. Old cabinets have handles that have studs that go into doors and drawers. New handles did not. This left a exposed hole behind all the new handles. Returned them to Menards. Found 50 pulls on EBAY that are from same manufacturer and a close match to what kitchen has. I only need 12. Plan to resell them after project is completed. Need to get my annual Flu shot today. About the only other thing I have to do today is stain some trim for the island project.

Mostly, hope the Vertigo goes away.

RNG, like your video. Reminds of some the road that I traveled will visiting Don. I need to do a video of my trips in town. More like a plowed cow path in areas than a road.

Don, g;ad we got Gray2's air out solved. I would be interested in how your mom's deep cleaning helper works out.

Buppies, sorry to hear about the C again.

Drew, staying in right lane except to pass is what I was taught. I think a lot of drivers that do not follow this rule take advantage of those that do.

Thomas, glad your wife found phone. You may need to plan a special dinner out with her.

Prayers for all those in need.

Good Morning All.

I don't even like being in the left lane any more on I-95, but we have so many people who apparently have never heard of keep right pass left and with traffic patterns clogged, folks compound the problem by severe tailgating and weaving through traffic.

when I took driver training, I was taught to drive on the right.
I genuinely believe a lot of folks around here were never taught that. They pull out onto local four lanes and immediately go to the left lane.
And drive there at the speed limit. Arrghhhh.

Here it seems they are taught there is no speed limit in the left lane. It's for passing only, not for those that want to go 10-15 miles above speed limit all the time. Texas law below:

"Keep Right

Watch for signs on Texas multi-lane highways that read "Left Lane For Passing Only." These signs let you know that the left lane on a divided highway is not a "fast" lane; it is a passing lane.

After you pass someone, move into the right lane once you've safely cleared the vehicle. Impeding the flow of traffic by continuing to drive in the left lane is punishable by a fine of up to $200."

72°F and rain this morning, going up to 83° today. small thunder storm rumbled through just before I left for work, and we're expecting more potentially sever ones this afternoon.

Sorry about your unwelcome find, Buppies.

I'm one of those people who drive in either the right lane or the middle when available. I was taught this in Driver's Ed as a way to avoid inhibiting the flow of traffic merging on and exiting off the highway. On highways, I get in that middle lane and set my cruise control at the posted speed limit. I've been driving like this for decades now, and yet I'm still amazed at the number of people who get behind me and flash their lights like I'm somehow obligated to get out of their way so they can continue breaking the law. I'm not, and I generally just ignore them, and even wave and smile when they pass me while barking vulgarities at their window. No one likes to ride with me, as everyone thinks I drive too slow ... including my Wife. It's not that I drive too slow, but rather that everyone else simply drives too fast. When friends take jabs at me about my driving, I remind them that I haven't had a speeding ticket since 1984, then ask them to surmise why that is. It never sways them. They all still drive too fast, then complain about "speed traps" when they get a ticket. Funny ... it's only a trap if you're speeding.

I have no idea whether any recent "studies" have been done, but many years ago, studies were done on multi-lane roads that found the most FREQUENT accidents occurred in the right lane; traffic getting on and off the freeway, and the most serious accidents occurred in the left (inside) lane, higher speeds, people in a hurry. Seemed logical to me, so PJS, I usually drive as you do. And I love cruise control.

Can't you load up a tank of glyphosate and spot spray, Larro? Even better, you probably have access to even stronger stuff than what they let us bone heads have in Kalifornia...

I'm sure I could do that for the ones by the downspout. The cousins have 120 acres of pine trees, so spraying that could get costly. Part of it got clear cut, a couple years ago, so that part isn't as bad. But in the tall trees the vine goes as high as the trees do. I don't have a picture, but it looks like a fern, with lacy leaves.

No frost this morning but it was 23°. Yesterday was windy and in the mid 60's with mostly sunny skies. Today is going to be in the mid 60's again but with less wind.

We got the ramps done yesterday. I think they will work just fine and a lot lighter then the ones that came with it.

I don't have any plans for today I'll see how it goes.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

Topic i壇 like to throw out for discussion.
I知 sure most of us on the down slope of the age curve have had thoughts. How do I leave things for my significant other? My discussion with my financial planner last week and I知 confident that financially, we have a good plan in place regardless of who goes first. And with the planner being aware, he値l be able to step in and assist with the financial aspects.
But what about the physical aspects? If i predecease wife will she be able to take care of the day to day requirements to live here? I値l guess that may have been a factor in Don choosing Sun City. Funny thing is there are 3 single women of similar ages that live on the street, 1 longer and 2 about same length of time as us. And they do very well. No doubt she is aware what needs to be done, but not getting any younger either. One of my thoughts (but slow to implement) is the hiring of someone to do what I term caretaker stuff. Someone familiar with the off grid systems (catchment, PV, generator) that can perform the basics as well as some mowing/weedeating. My plan includes building a studio type residence so I that person is on site.
Just curious as to other thoughts.

I have given this a lot of thought. Not so much for dying, but for a thru hike. No way Margie can handle the farm by herself for 6 months. {or longer if I do my usual 8 miles per day} We are alright with regard to money, so taking the time off work wouldn't break us. It's just finding folks to help that you can trust.

3-4 days at a time is the most I have been able to get away the last couple of years. It will only get harder as time goes by.

One night last week I was out night hiking, and some guy was broke down and knocked on the door after 2200. Margie was asleep in front of the TV, woke up thinking it was me, and opened the door, then shut and locked it as soon as she saw it wasn't. He ask to use the phone, but left before she found it. She was pretty upset when I got home. The first thing she said, "you are not going thru hiking."

{we called the Sheriff's office, and a deputy found him and gave him a ride}

With the wind finally leaving us alone for a while we were spared a frost last night by only a couple of degrees , though I wouldn't have known that without a thermometer as the sun is out early today in a cloudless sky.

Back in 2004 I put a few sweet chestnut (Castanea sateva) nuts in plant pots. Some were gathered from a friends tree and others were being sold as food in a local market. After 3 years they had grown tall enough to plant out. I thought if I was lucky, I may live long enough to collect a few thinnings as fire wood. They seem to like this soil and to my surprise several have fruited this year. Even better, the strong winds have brought the nuts to the ground before the casings have split, so I get to try a few before the squirrels.

Do I have to wait until December, or would it be ok to light the fire and play Nat King Cole a little earlier this year ? Nat King Cole - The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting...) - YouTube

There is a big chestnut tree in the side yard at my old house. But a few years back my cousin had her land surveyed, and the chestnut tree is now on her land. So maybe she will rake up the hulls before I step on one barefooted. I go through there on my night hikes, and I saw they were falling. I need to remember to pick up a few next time by there.

Good Morning. At 1030 it's partly cloudy, 85F with 78% humidity. Forecast high low of 87/71F with 60% chance of rain. Once again I see a 69F on the tenth day of my 10 day forecast. But it is a lot like a dream. When you first wake up it's there, but after while it will be gone again.

I slept in this morning til 0700. Sleeping inside, the birds don't wake me up at daylight. Since breakfast I have been listening to You Tube hiking videos while catching up on this thread. No real plans. Not working again until Friday, so a couple of days of hiking at Torreya State Park is an option. But it's still hot and there is a good chance of rain the next three days. So most likely will do some walking and camping down at my river camp.

Margie is having a bad leg day, so she ask if sausage sandwiches and a Suddenly Salad would be alright for lunch. Of course I replied in the affirmative. Then she was reading off the options for Suddenly Salad. One of them was Racon and Branch. Ha

Buppies. Good luck with getting your new spot removed. If it gets too sore to sit, you can always pretend you are a hiker.

Here is all the equipment you will need. {trowel and s**t tickets}

RNG nice video, where is the camera mounted?

I used another ball mount adapter on the RAM mount that holds the GPS to the handlebar. This one replaces the nut on the clamp with another ball that has the nut in its base. A very clever and clean design. But I see from the video it tends to shake a bit at low RPMs.

You'll find a selection of RAM mounts and accessories HERE.

RNG I misread the tach reading in the picture. Looked to be about 2 o'clock for awhile.
I have no idea what you are riding other than a BMW and my memory was they weren't super high rpm machines so
I was just curious. Thought it might be an Italian tune up.

It seems you mistook the speedometer for the tach, Drew. That bike is a BMW, the R100GS model, an air cooled twin from 1993. Long stroke, big pistons, lotsa torque. From back in the day when electronic ignition was high tech, so it's very user friendly when it comes to maintenance and repair work. Unlike BMW's current product offerings, but I'll just leave it at that.

...there, no more Left Lane Louises, all fixed.

I can hardly believe you wrote that, Drew! I could swear in the last year in this thread you wrote how you like to get into the left lane and loaf along at five miles an hour over the speed limit, and to heck with anyone behind you that wanted to go faster. I'm going to have to start taking one of those memory drugs to stop having these delusions!:confused2::laughing:

As for the Audi idiocy, well, the marketing claims are far outrunning the engineering accomplishments when it comes to "driver assists". I just hope the accomplishments surpass the claims before I get to the age where they take my driver's license away from me and I need a self driving car to go grocery shopping!

Very sorry to hear that, Buppies! Skin cancer's bad enough on it's own, and you've had more than your fair share of suffering, but that's a low blow and a royal PITA to boot!:muttering:
