I grew up in the days when a car that didn't have to have a quart of oil added more often than once in a thousand miles was a really great automobile. And of course you were supposed to change oil every thousand miles. New cars sitting on the showroom floor almost always had a drip pan under the engine. And most folks checked the oil every time they put gas in their car. AAaaah, how things have changed, and for the better, in my opinion. We currently have a 2012 Ford Escape with more than 90k miles on it and a 2017 Ford Escape with less than 20k miles on it, and both are parked in the garage with a clean floor under them. And supposedly you only need to change oil about every 10k miles, but I'm so old fashioned that I still have it changed every 5 to 6k miles.

Back in the old days when gas stations had attendants, you would say "Fill it up with oil and check the gas"

Good evening all. 70F this morning, overcast, calm wind. Moderate wind today, overcast partial breakup mid-afternoon, peeks of sunshine, high temp of 88F. Finished the light fixture this morning, had to cut the threaded rod, wife officially happy :cool2: Also removed bolts from the wood pile that tore the tarp last year. Also got a nap in.
Drew hoping it does not get too bad at your house.
Also the rest of you east coasters be careful in the floods.
Don again congrats on your lifestyle changes and study results.
prayer for all.

I just had to shoot a snake getting into the chicken coop. about 4' long chicken snake.

My ears are ringing. My wife and daughter think I'm the hero. My coop has only 1/8" or less gaps when the doors are shut.

one would think a chicken snake would belong in a chicken house but for sure not...

rain is really coming down now, heavy bands and I'm smack dab in the middle of the Northern part.
Storm isn't going very far or very fast, Cat 1 now thankfully.

Read an article on how this is going to flush out many millions of gallons of hog sewage from giant sewage lagoons.
Can't wait to see if any of that wafts my way...

bunch of leaves and junk on back porch but otherwise can't see a thing. Big hi power LED lamp in front yard lighting that up, advertising to the entire neighborhood I have lots of power but it's raining so hard yard lamp just a blur.
Noise of the rain on the windows still sounds nice.

all this rain will displace all kinds of animals. Need to be careful what tries to get in house...or barn.

60 right now...high in the upper 70's.

Well, at least Florence has been downgraded to a Category 1. 90 MPH winds are still pretty destructive though.

Good morning all.

I also learned the hard way that many British cars were a nightmare. Not sure why, some say those with the talent to make them better went instead into the aerospace industry at Rolls Royce. The '80s cars were the worst. As well as being unreliable, they didn't leak quite enough oil to stop them rusting away after a few winters. Very sociable vehicles though, back in those days I was on first name terms with the guys on the service desk and most of the dealer's mechanics too.

After WW2 the VW manufacturing plant was to have been disassembled. A British Army major called Ivan Hirst had a better idea and it is thanks to him that Drew is able to drive around in his shiny new Audi - although maybe not so shiny for much longer if that hog sewage gets out :)

Looks like we will have a decent day today. 50 now going to 70. Hope everyone stays safe from the hurricane. Around here there was a gas line over pressure that blew up 3homes and started around 60 fires. So far 1 dead and multiple injuries. They are still trying to find out what happened. Over 8000 homes affected.Power has been turned off in three towns. I’m not affected as I am 30 or so miles away. Prayers for all.

Bonjour. I'm feeling a little Frenchy after completing my 3rd French Drain yesterday.

Glad to hear your generator is working reliably, Drew. Also glad to see the storm is down to a Cat 1...still strong and the rain forecast sounds devastating.

Raining here and 73, going to 80.

Phil, glad you are safe...terrible accident.
