70°F and only .58 inches rain
Compared to Maui and others we were spared Olivia. Hope those in path of Florence are as lucky. Overcast and light rain at this point

Sears tech coming this afternoon to fix the mower , replace the electric clutch switch I think.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have A great day

time to take it down

not much rain yet, used the time to wash the audi and vacuum it inside for first time.
Thought I was having a serious senior moment when I could not find
the oil dipstick. Finally took the manual in and sat down to read it.
No dipstick. None.
Only way to check oil is through infotainment system.
Amazing.

I've had oil life sensors before, but this is the first no dipstick engine I've ever owned.

Wheels on audi pita to clean, forgot how nasty German brake dust is. Even if it is built in Mexico.
Just seems to be stickier than normal.

at least I accomplished something worthwhile today.

My Borrego has an oil dipstick, but no transmission dipstick, it also monitors the oil level on the display and has been the same reading as the dipstick , but it’s always full and I never tried it when it was draining.

Same with my Soul; has oil dipstick, but sealed transmission. I don't know ... I don't mind the electronic gizmos, but I'd feel better having manual backup.

so I'm not a dipstick for not finding my dipstick...ok

rain has just started for real and my power has been off for almost an hour already, good thing for backup gen.
Not a good omen. And my video cameras just went down.
Might need to go hit a reset button somewhere with power going on and off.
I turned off garage freezer, will turn it back on tonight. Have some automatic load shedders on system
but I can do more than they can.
Guess I should go dunk in the hot tub while it's still warm...for sure I wasn't buying
a big enough generator to run that thing too. Although it does consume far less than I originally thought.
More things I can disconnect by breaker, less things susceptible to surges
Tornado alert out. Good time for a hot tub soak. ;)

I do not think anyone is going out to take Flag down. Another strip got torn off while I was viewing a few minutes ago.

Our flag fell victim to Olivia, tore out top grommet. Might look to replace as rest of flag still good shape, only flying since 4th of July. First time I’ve had one do this.
We normally go thru 3-4 flags (4x6 nylon with embroidered stars) a year. Usually frays on the non grommet edge. Sometimes almost every strip showing some fray but without separation, the reenforced seam still intact, still looking good from a distance.

My BIL just got through last year dredging/pumping sand back on Nags Head and Kill Devil hill beaches.....Wonder what this storm will do to those beaches now?

I had an '03 BMW 540i purchased used instead of new partly because the '04 models would not have an oil dipstick but did come with run flat tires. Two huge steps backwards IMHO.

That same car came with those nasty German brake pads that left black dust all over everything. They were replaced with PBR Axxis Dulexe Plus Brake pads from Import Replacement Parts. No more dust, and I liked the feel better as well.

:2cents:

what beaches?.....
sounds like job security to me

house is starting to make noise, cheap extruded gutters always start humming or whubba whubba noises
just starting up the band

power just came back on after being out for an hour. Proved to me my pc UPS was toast.
I'll order another on Amazon. Already replaced the battery once. Time for a current model.
Had to admire Amazon, over two days ago everything started having due dates next week, more than a week out.
Always good to underpromise and over deliver. They have no idea if roads or country road bridges are still there when this is done.

Buppies, did those cars say Auf Wiedersehen when you left?

I grew up in the days when a car that didn't have to have a quart of oil added more often than once in a thousand miles was a really great automobile. And of course you were supposed to change oil every thousand miles. New cars sitting on the showroom floor almost always had a drip pan under the engine. And most folks checked the oil every time they put gas in their car. AAaaah, how things have changed, and for the better, in my opinion. We currently have a 2012 Ford Escape with more than 90k miles on it and a 2017 Ford Escape with less than 20k miles on it, and both are parked in the garage with a clean floor under them. And supposedly you only need to change oil about every 10k miles, but I'm so old fashioned that I still have it changed every 5 to 6k miles.

Toppop, we need you for a daring onsite service call...
think you could patch up this flag for us?
Would be a charming 35 mile boat ride out to the light.
Now there's a real sense of adventure and we wouldn't have to see Old Glory
beat itself to bits.
All that salt water probably good for your shingles too.
I'll even volunteer Buppies to drive....:D

That same 5 series BMW didn't have its first oil change until it had been driven more than 17,000 miles. It was covered by a 3 year 36 month warranty that included "free" maintenance, and when I got it the maintenance light didn't come on again for another 20,000 miles. I changed my own oil at 5,000 mile intervals. That was the same interval BMW used to use before they started to include oil changes in the "free" maintenance during the warranty. Apparently the new schedule was intended to get the car past the initial warranty period and distance, not to ensure longevity for much longer than that. I can't ever see myself buying a new vehicle again; they're considered throw away items after the warranty expires.

If that’s the case Drew you will be first mate

Our first experience with no dipstick cars were English made

Never owned a BMW that went past 10000 miles without oil change light coming on
