Good morning!!!!

There is a major high pressure area, off the upper east coast, that is steering Florence to the Carolinas.

Yep, I said a few days ago that I was afraid it would act a lot like Hugo, looks like it might until landfall, then this one stalls and floods large areas with catastrophic ampounts of rain. This one truly scares me.

We are saturated have been for weeks. It will be catastrophic if it gets inland.

Y’all are in our prayers for safety. Don’t be heroes and try to “weather” this storm at home. If the smart guys say to evacuate it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Everything you leave behind, is replaceable “stuff”.

My brother has been trying to get his daughter and grandson out of Charleston, which surely will flood like crazy. Last time she was out of power for a crazy long time.

I would not want to be in some of the single wide trailers and manufactured housing in this area.
Am reminded how secure we felt as kids in a bad storm because the walls on our 1720 home were three feet thick stone.
Nothing was going to huff and puff and blow us down.
I think my current home is built adequately but who knows. Already has an insurance shingle job on it...

When you don't have a basement it's hard to feel fully safe. Can't have basements here so assuming one's roof is still on, all one can do
is hunker down near the chimney.

While living aboard my boat in South Florida hurricane went right over us, hit 110mph on big yacht's recording weather rig next dock over.
What I remember the most was the noise. In this case an eerie moaning, deep moaning sounds which you couldn't figure out where it was coming from, like something big was being tortured, and turns out it was the giant flagpoles they had erected all down the roadway. Something had hit a resonance or harmonic and those poles were like pipes on an organ, playing a very unintentional tune. Spooky...

Around here the noise will be the rattling of gutters and some occasional what was that noises.
And the exhaust vent in the kitchen will be having a fit, wanging away. Now that gets tiresome...

Like someone else noted Drew ...... might be a good time for a road trip. I’d head southwest.

and all the predictions are it will stall somewhere between me and you and dump inch an hour rain for days.
Not just creeks are going to rise, it's will all your bridge infrastructure wash away with it. My brother is in Markham up on a hill, good thing, at least the water can go somewhere...but I think his winding country road is toast. A creek runs right along it.

Ron, he has a 1000 gallon propane tank also. No wet stacking. I'm very familiar with that term from yachts being driven at too low
rpms and not getting hot enough. Mostly up and down the Intracoastal nearby. Now Detroits liked to slobber but that would make them even messier...and some of the big German iron like MAN and MTU really didn't like it, those high performance MAN's were like Ferrari engines, you didn't want to lug them...not that I've ever driven a Ferrari. Have no idea if Caterpillar had wet stacking issues, I guess any engine that doesn't get to operating temperature would. Propane/LPG really does make a great fuel for generator use.

Rick, too much here to look after. This storm is going to make a big mess and as long as my gen keeps running, I'll be fine. Was a fireman too long to run from storms. Just thankful I don't have to go out in it during the night.
I hate storms at night when you can't see what is going on. And downed live wires all over the place.

You guys take care and be safe out there.

Here, I’m less concerned about rain, after all we saw over 40 inches for Lane, but a bit about wind as that’s kinda unknown at this point.
Not worried about us much, I tend to think we are a safer place to evacuate to. Generators ready, over 200 gal diesel, 16kg fresh water, plenty of food in freezer. Going to Brewery this afternoon for another keg. We can hunker down a bit without problems. Might have to depending on road damage/closures on main highway. State crews are excellent at getting slides cleared.

Prayers for all.

Drew, new path has the storm closer to you, please use your head when deciding what to do. Cone of uncertainty has moved north about a hundred miles, the edge is just south of us now.

I remember Donna in 1960, I was 8, lying in bed and listening to the tin on the roof rolling up from the edges then the loud pop as the nails gave way. Next day the yard was littered with neatly rolled roof tin.
