Good evening all. 80F this morning, high thin clouds and calm wind. Wind was up and down, high thin clouds around all day and high temp of 111F. Bike ride this morning 3 of the Sat. morning regulars are in Iowa, because of heat just 2 of us rode, (33 miles). Put boat back in water, went solo, no problems launching and retrieving. Phase 1 break-in is done, now just stay off full throttle more than 5 minutes at time. Boat did top 44 mph on GPS. Played with fish finder, lots of fish in lake. :cool2: . Stayed inside until dog walk.
Don, nice mirror, did not go handle bar mirror because of a lot of rough chip seal I ride.
Ed real shame on the lathe, pray you can work something out.
PJ hope the roof goes well, never like to hear about soft spots :thumbdown:
prayers for all.

/ Good morning!!!! #79,102
I'm feeling a little sleepy this morning. The neighbour's alarm went off in the middle of the night. Doors and windows looked intact, but with all the noise it took the dog quite a while to settle when we got back in.

I'm hoping today's weather will be like yesterday's with some light cloud cover, as I have the very last high up section of brickwork on the yard side to point up with mortar. It made a nice change to be up the scaffold tower yesterday without getting cooked.

Ed, hope you are over the worst of the disappointment this morning. I will have to factor in the lathe mafia next time I read a murder mystery and I'm wondering who could have done it. :)

good morning all. AccuWrong says 37 inches of rain so far this year, but I bet it's closer to 40.
And more today, more tomorrow. And I was liking the lawn slowing down...not for long.
It was dry enough here we got over an inch of rain and nothing showed up in ditches, dry as a bone, ground sucked it up
right away.

Hispanic/Mexican helper comes today at noon for first day. Going to practice my charades moves...
I think he got it when I explained the translator on his phone saying I wanted to chop down the tree when I really wanted it weeded.
So one of the job requirements was "never guess, always confirm". He seems pretty bright and has done lots of weedeating. Apparently he has been taking care of hogs for three years, giving them shots, doing whatever you do on a pig farm and working long hours for min wage. With me, he now has four days a week committed, three different properties to work at. These guys work 6 days, 7 days a week without batting an eye. I'm paying him a very good living wage (for this area) of 15 per hour. Apparently that's a nice bump up from the pig farm. He showed up in an almost new GMC Colorado p/u, had insurance for it, and seemed legit. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Today lesson number one is don't turn things that are green into brown. Yesterday we got down on our hands and knees and eyeballed existing plant damage from weedeaters. He seems to get it, and has zero problems bending over, like I do, to pull some weeds. Must be a far improvement from dealing in hog poop. And yes, I did order another dozen of those plastic protectors., which I really don't like, but making this place overly labor intensive isn't smart. Which I say keeping in mind I have planted over 200 trees here to trim around...

Am hoping that little black snake is doing ok this morning. Pains me to see a nice animal hurt. Do snakes have memory? Are they smart enough to not try climbing my plastic fence again? Next year all the plastic is getting replaced. I used stuff I had in an old garden in PA and ran out, finished with light weight fencing, which caused this problem. If the snake wants in, fine. Still wondering what it wanted to eat in there...assuming it didn't want to mate with my red garden hose...;)

Good morning all, 60 going to 76 a 60% chance of showers. We were to far west to get any of the rain so it is still dry here. Calling for a good chance of showers through next Sat. plan on taking it easy today. Wife found some people saying the same thing as I just did on line about the lathe co. Will see what happens.

Mostly, That pic you posted this morning makes me miss my boats. Have had 2 if you don't count john boats and a canoe. Hope you have many fun days in it.

Have a great day, prayers sent. Ed

63 going to 82. Rained enough yesterday for over a month, but more in the forecast each day for the coming week. Ed and LS, I'll be out there blowing hard facing west.

Plan to clean up from yesterday's storm and some other chores that don't require driving the tractor on the soft ground. Also, it is roast day, and I will go to gym again like yesterday. Maybe even drag the 10-speed out and see if the tires will hold air, the chain will turn, and do a couple laps around the driveway to see if I can catch the bug. My 10-speed is also a cheapo I had in my late teens and 20s...but I thought doing 10 to 15 miles was a good ride, nothing like MG, or even Don, now.

/ Good morning!!!! #79,107
Looking out the window I see clear sky but flooded fields. Last I heard we had over 4 inches of rain yesterday. Time to make the morning rounds. Have a great day all. Be safe.

/ Good morning!!!! #79,108
Poured first cup of coffee. 67° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 70° with rain mid day. Got .6" of good soaking rain yesterday. Things are going to turn green hear soon. 19.2" of rain so far this year. That's about right for a area that gets 32" yearly. Stayed in most of the day yesterday. May do the same today. Then watch some NASCAR if they don't get rained out.

Drew, hope your worker works out. Sounds like a good deal for both of you.

Mostly, boat picture is great. Brings back the 30 years I had boats for fishing.

Ed, sorry about the lathe delivery problems. Hope you get better info from them Monday.

Don, knocking off them miles. Won't be long and you will be adding big miles like Mostly. I need to get my bike out.

Good Morning All. Prayers for those in need.

58 right now...high in the mid-70's and, hopefully, the predicted rain will fall.

Got all my chores done yesterday, but I should do some weed-whacking. That might be in order for today...depending in the weather

/ Good morning!!!! #79,110
Cooling off some; only 108 forecast for today instead of 110 as we had yesterday. My cheap gauge says I've gotten 15.21" of rain this year; 7.06" of it in February, and none in more than a month now.

We got 2.5 “ here, some spots were over 4. I have sand and clay, some areas sand is 3-4 ‘ deep on top of clay. Those areas store water like a reservoir for several days. 69-86 today, have a good one and prayers to all.

Thomas, that's a lot of cukes. Sure are good when they are fresh and crunchy. I'd like to try my hand at pickling some day.
...................................
Mrs. planted 12 plants think 6 plants would have been more than enough for the both of us.
Had my first fresh cuke sandwich yesterday late that afternoon sat by the wood pile enjoy another. :licking:
Mrs. try pickling not much like mostly sealing the jar.

Sure like BIG garden such as yours  but we would end up given 2/3 of it away or the wildlife would eat well.

Good morning to all! Today's expected high is only 100. No rain. This talk of "inches" of rain... The average rainfall here is a total of about 10" annually. It's really bad when when the YTD total is only 2". Add to that its the hottest and driest year on record!

I have been here in NM since '92. The first few years were green, had above average rain and snowfall. It has been progressively getting drier and drier. We have decided it is time it is time to seek a "less harsh environment". It seems that many other areas are to the opposite extreme....too much rain, too quickly (flooding), massive forest fires, tornadoes (in multiples), or blizzards /massive snows. Is there any weather stable areas? Somebody really p****d off Mother Nature....

You guys take it easy in the heat...at least our heat is accompanied by very low humidity (10-15%), unlike the high humidity with your heat. I don't think I could be out riding a bike in conditions like this.

Going out to work on my build while it is still tolerable...everyone have a great day! Prayers out for everyone.

With the talk about bikes. I got mine out. Put new tubes on both tires. Adjusted brakes. Lubed chain and derailleur. Took it for a 1 mile ride. Either I am out of shape or getting old. I was huffing and puffing at end of 1/2 mile. Good thing return trip was down hill. Had breakfast. Took another ride. 2 miles this time. Much falter road. Top speed 8 mph. I have a long way to go to catch up to Don's 16 mph. Maybe I should take up spinning. :confused2: We have a new Planet Fitness next door to the PT center.

We have the largest rural mail box, at the ranch. It’s about 15”x12”x24”. If we get a parcel too large for the box, our mail lady drives down our driveway and drops it on our front porch.

The low this morning was 54*, yesterday was in the mid 80's and partly cloudy. They are saying a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms for today. With a high in the mid 70's and some wind. We could use some rain.

Not much planned for today, work on the trailer some and put tools away.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday.
CWB.

Good Morning Everyone!!!!!

Kyle- I wish you a happy belated birthday. I hope you had a decent day. I wish you many more trips around the sun.

Claye- Wifey was mentioning the need for another hummingbird feeder around here due to all the hummingbird activity. We have two already. Adding a third would give those hummers another food source to fight over

Drew- Thanks for the snake rescue. I too try to help wild animals out of their predicaments. Your helper reads to be a "keeper." Good luck.

Ed- I am sorry to read about the "Bait & Switch" with the lathe.

Andrew- After a couple of  "pucker and skid the undies" moments  on my tractor I now go low and slow and always wear the seatbelt. Good luck.

PJS- Good luck with the repair those roof soft spots.

A 60コF rainy, foggy start to the morning this AM? A good day to catch up here and drink lots of coffee.

The recent run of rain free cool mornings and tolerable afternoon temperatures kept me really busy with the outdoor property and garden chores in the AM's and during the PM's Wifey and I have been on a major "clean up&out" mission this past week. My junk room is now a real guest bedroom :( and one can safely walk around in the cellar w/o risk of injury.

As a hoarder it was extremely painful  to see all my decent junk go to the local Transfer Station and a regional recycling center. :(

The dry weather is now history. It looks like I will be seeing a lot of wet weather which started last evening as the first weather front rolled through with a lot of Tropical moisture interacting with unstable NE weather dynamics.

Luckily I successfully fixed a newly discovered leak in the roof over the cellar yesterday afternoon w/o wearing any sealing compound and/or getting stuck crawling through a window getting to the leak.

I hope that everyone has a decent Sunday.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for all.

Good Morning!!!! 75F @ 8:00AM. Partly cloudy. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High near 95F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Much of the north state is under an extreme heat advisiory today, with fire weather warnings in the foothills and mountains due to dry lightning. Good day to stay home and stay alert for airplanes circling overhead.

Who remembers the “conversations” Basil and Miguel had in the old British series “Fawlty Towers”? Hope you have better luck with your new farm hand, Drew!

Very likely that the Chinese manufacturer is the one jerking around the US distributor for that lathe, Ed, and that sends undesireable ripples all the way down the supply chain. Add in the language barrier, and you’re suffering from the result. I’m stuck in the sort of the same loop with a manufacturer in France, who sent their part via DHL, who then subed the final delivery to some outfit called OnTrac here in the US. It’s been more than a month going out to the wrong address or just sitting in a wharehouse somewhere. The tracking website says it’ll come today, then when it doesn’t, the delivery date changes to the next day... I just hope the right part is in the box if/when it finally gets here.

Both Powermatic and Delta made 14” floor standing bandsaws with transmissions that allow cutting both wood and metal, Drew. They have about a 2’x2’ footprint and are very versatile and reliable, once they’ve been gone through to replace wear items and perhaps bearings. Parts availability is good, and USA spec berings, belts, and seals can be had at any bearing house. They are quality pieces of machinery, and carry price tags to boot, even though they’ll be from the ‘50s to the ‘70s in age for the best ones.

Replaced o-rings and seals on the back half of the engine yesterday, then mounted the flywheel. Couldn’t hold the engine still while the flywheel bolts were torqued to 75 lb. ft., so mounted the engine in the frame. Found the timing sprocket on the crank is shot, so that work will have to wait for an order to go out and come back. Plenty to do getting the clutch and transmission back in, and the swingarm and rear wheel on to make it a roller though. That way I’ll be able to free up the lift for other jobs.

Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday...
