Morning all. Late night, late morning. Well, I walked outside as the sun was coming up to get the orange tree tops against the green pasture a few minutes ago. The sun has gone behind the clouds for the day, I guess.

I managed to get all the drywall down from the ceiling yesterday. A dump run is on order for today. I do have another hole on the other side of the room. So I will send some pics to my wife's favorite salvage place today and see if we can do a match. Shame they did that. The wood is in excellent condition. I often marveled at the cut and quality of these old woods as we were engaged in the renovation of this house. The saws, drills and hammers always struggled with the original woods. Man, those boards have been up there for close to 100 years! I cannot wait to get it done.

I hope all have a really good day. Had to laugh out loud about the unexpected shower Drew. Man I have been there...more than once...and yes, under the farm house too... with a flashlight as my only source of light...

Don, I can't remember from last year, but do you make a crust for the cobbler?

Yes. Recipe: From "Straight up Foods" by Cathy Fisher

(For the 1/2 cup of nondairy milk I blend a few nuts with 1/2 water in a bullet blender.)

1/2 cup unsweetened nondairy milk

2 ounces pitted dates

1/2 very ripe banana

teaspoon vanilla

1 1/2 cups old fashion rolled oats

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.

Blend dry ingredients to a flour.
Blend other ingredients to a thick (milkshake) consistency in a blender.
Mix the two and they make a batter (crust) for the top of the cobbler.

You also make a fruit sauce to mix in the fruit.

Fruit sauce is:

cup of water, 2 ounces of dates, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice 1/4 cup oats, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon all blended and poured into the fruit.
The fruit consist of 2 cups of frozen peaches and 2 cups of berries in her recipe.

bake 375˚ for 25-30 minutes.

Looks like your good wishes will come true for me here weatherwise, Eric, at least for the next week or so. Highs of almost 80F for the weekend, then cooling into the mid 70s with gentle breezes and a few clouds to keep things interesting. In other words, perfect spring weather. Just in time for the Airheads to enjoy this weekend, wrenching on the old motorcycles, bench racing around the campfire, and probably eating and drinking more than is good for your diet.:laughing:

Snakes and stickers don't bother me too much when berries are at hand, Don. Just wish I was closer so I could help you with your "problem". As a kid, we'd get into a wild raspberry patch using 2x12 lumber 8' long, standing it upright at the edge of the bush and letting it fall down to make a path. Still got stuck, but also got to berries we otherwise wouldn't.:licking: Back then, the bushes were taller than I was, and they'd probably be about head high for me now.

I keep watching the Tractor Supply ads for their Farm Worker brand of glyphosate to go on sale, but no luck so far. It's up another five bux this year, to $60 for the 2.5 gallon jug of 41%. I'll go through two or three of them spraying out yellow star thistle next month, so a sale that knocks off 10% - 20% would make a big difference. Don't know about other brands, but Farm Worker has surfactant already in it. Does the RM43 have an added ingredient to prolong the effect, Rick?

That would be a very good price for propane out here, PJ. It's going for about $2.40/gal. now, but prices drop a bit in the summer as demand drops off. Looks like price varies quite a bit depending on how much is purchased as well: Residential Propane Price Survey

If that poor lady that almost got sucked out the airplane window would have had her seatbelt on, even loosely, she might not have been killed. Usta fly a lot, and never felt safe without one on. Several times it paid off when the plane hit turbulence unexpectedly.

Good point about plastic fittings, Lou. Several years ago, BMW used plastic fittings in the fuel system on a motorcycle I purchased from them. Only new motorcycle I ever bought. Worse, one of the fittings was 3/8" NPT, and sure enough, the female side split one day. Yep, gas all over the garage floor, with a gas fired water right across the room. Their "fix" was to replace the plastic fittings with new ones, and crimp a metal band around the female boss. I didn't feel safe with that, and found chrome plated brass male fittings, but had to machine my own replacement for the female side. Don't think I'll ever buy another new BMW product again...

The problem with medical marijuana, even in places like Kalifornia that have legalized recreational use, is that it's still illegal at the federal level. When you purchase a firearm, Form 4473 specifically asks about drug use, and if you check the "yes" box, the sale will be denied. Until that's fixed, I won't be joining any frequent flyer clubs...

Those 4in1 buckets are nice, aren't they Andrew? You might wanna keep your bucket as low as possible when moving heavy stuff like stumps, though. Those long arms on the FEL give that weight a lot of leverage to tip the tractor sideways if a wheel should drop into a hole. Believe me, you don't want that kind of excitement, especially when your wife is videoing you!

What I hoped would be just one or two limbs hanging low over the driveway turned out to be many more, and it took several hours and lots of trips to get them all down and carted off to the burn pile. Sore arms, back, and neck this morning are my reward.

Also got some firewood cut for the weekend's campfire, in spite of a reluctant chainsaw. It had been sleeping since last spring, with no fuel in it, but still it balked at starting and bogged down easily under load until it was warmed up. Probably time to clean the spark arrestor and put in a new air filter on that one. I had no luck starting the gas hedge clippers though. Even new, that one never did want to start, and I gave up after an hour and a half of cleaning and tuning. It's gonna get a ride to the dealer that sold it to me today. If they can't remedy the issue, somebody's gonna get a great deal on an almost new piece of equipment and I'll be looking at brands that don't rhyme with "steel" to replace it.

You might consider some of the LiIon battery powered tools. I got the Husqvarna battery chainsaw in 2012-- it has a 14 or 16" bar. Later my wife got the string trimmer that uses the same batteries. Actually, the string trimmer is strong enough to offer a metal blade option, which I should probably get to help with wild blackberries. They also have hedge trimmers, though I've never tried them, but I'm 95% satisfied with the battery tools I have. You find you use the chainsaw a lot more often throughout the year when its just sitting there ready to go, and worst if you forgot to charge the battery, that is just a 30 minute affair, not like fooling with a 2-stroke carburetor. I'm still on the original two batteries I got. I might get a third, as with a third I'd be able to fill up the trailer completely with firewood.

Sorry about your plumbing woes, Drew. Plastic plumbing garbage and questionable electrical stuff is what prompted our repairs a couple of years ago ... which turned into a whole house remodel, so be careful. :laughing:

Those berries look fantastic, Don. Like others, I'd be glad to help take some off your hands if we were closer. Not sure exactly where you are, but I know we're a 14 hour drive from Ft. Hood / Killeen. That's a long way for berries.

I do remember with clarity the admonishment from the dealer to never use ethanol fuels because it degrades the rubber in the lines which gunks up the engine. There was one station in town that sold 109 octane, and man did that bike have some jump with a tank of that.

Gosh, I would have expected the prices to have gone down, not up. I've seen now, even in Slovakia, but earlier in the US, lower-priced brands offering ~ 40V battery equipment as well for a lower price. At the time I got it, I think it was a package of saw, charger, and two batteries. There was a possibility to buy the saw separately, and the saw alone was actually less expensive than a decent gas Husqvarna. I can't remember my exact calculations now, but over the expected life of the batteries things work out to be cheaper than buying gasoline and two stroke oil at European prices, plus no spark plugs to clean, carbs to fix, etc.

The low this morning was 28*. Today looks to be overcast with a high in the low 60's, with the wind 10-15. They are calling for a little storm tomorrow night. But the weekend in to next week will be mostly in the high 60's and no storms.

Going in to town this morning for the weekly trip. I don't have any plans for the rest of the day.

Good morning everyone.

It started snowing ~6:30AM and dropped a quick inch of snow/+2" on the grass. The sun just made a surprise appearance. Tonight may be the last of the snow that I see this Spring.

RNG- I agree that the Federal criminalization of marijuana and still classifying it as a Class 1 controlled substance complicates many of the States' drug and firearm ownership policies. In MA as a MM patient I can legally own a firearm, but as a recreational user I could not. The State has to figure this out. If I had to choose I would give up my firearms and place myself at potential risk when it comes to self and wife's protection w/i my/our home. In 2020 I will know for sure when I have to renew my LTC.

My wife reports the Prednisone is helping her with her pain management. So far the increased energy, talkativeness, and activity is a good thing. She is already starting to taper her dose having experienced living with me and all the Prednisone that I used to take. We will both be trying the CBD oil soon.

I believe that poor woman passenger who was killed was probably dead/dying from blunt force trauma before she was partially sucked out of the aircraft's window.

We saw "Casablanca" on TV last night. That was a great Humphrey Bogart/Ingrid Bergman movie. "Casablanca" trumps "Perry Mason" anytime.

Don- Those berries look good and thanks for the links and recipes. Our property supports wild strawberries, raspberries, and blue berries. Between the wild berries and my domestic blueberries the local wildlife is well fed.

The bike I mentioned was an '05 R1200GS. Even the fuel tank is plastic. Ethanol in fuel is unavoidable these days, and in my '95 RT, I end up rebuilding carbs and replacing fuel lines every few years as a result. Just part of the ante. If you do a little research, the anti-knock compounds used in fuel have a lower energy content than gasoline. Engines with knock sensors may respond favorably to high octane gas because the knock sensor won't cause the ignition to be retarded to eliminate the knock. I suspect that the "jump" you felt in your RT was more due to the higher cost of the gas than any real performance increase, though.:laughing:

Good morning to all! Yesterday turned out to be the best day of the week weather wise. Today is not too bad this morning, supposed to again get high winds this afternoon prior to a front / low pressure system moving across late tonight and tomorrow. Should be a good chance of t-storms, but some could be severe.....you guys in Texas and east better batten down the hatches for some bad weather.

Got outside yesterday and did some tinkering in the shop. The PT therapist recommended keeping the knee "mobility" by frequent movement and exercises. I hope she realizes that my definition of mobility is probably a lot different than hers! No I'm not going to get crazy and start to do things I shouldn't, but it's good to get out and do some normal stuff.

Drew, been there done that... Water leaks are the worst when they are under the house....nothing is easy then.

LFN, have fun on the hoe...they're a blast to get things done!

Don, Berries look good, one of my favorites there!, I think #2 behind wild blueberries though.

RNG, have fun this weekend, keep everyone in line, and have a good time...need to post some event pics..

The moving POD from one of the daughters is being delivered today so we can unload it so they are paying storage fees. We offered storage in shed if daughter helped build it. We were planning on one anyway so will work out well. We have a couple of weeks to get the shed built and the POD unloaded.

Of course I am slammed with meetings today, so may have to let them place it (we painted some lines to guide them, the delivery driver also has instructions) without my expert supervision).

Weather is finally warming, feels good. We all have more energy. Even put up new mailbox yesterday (old one had been there almost 25 years).

Back to dentist today for follow up...think a root canal is only hours away.

Will change oil and filters on tractor today if feeling up to it and not too windy.

I went to dentist tuesday. He wants to do another crown.
