The stump can see its shadow. Now what does that mean? IMG_1337.JPG

We need to name this stubborn stump, any suggestions?

My sickle is a JD 350, no Pittman stick. It is 9' long. I primarily use it to trim the pond banks as it can be angled downward. I need to take it to Drew or RNG for a makeover. (cept they might paint it orange), LOL.

Bring it over, Kyle. Might just be the motivation I need to go out and get that green tractor I've been threatening to get. You know, 'cause green'n orange kinda clash, and if you brought that sickle over here, I'm not sure I'd let you leave with it!

12°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 30° today. Moon was very bright last night and this morning.

Got the new footswitch for my studio guitar amp yesterday. They were out when I bought the amp. Hooked it up and played for a good long while. Wife was over in St. Louis for a dog training, and the boy didn't come home after work (he rolled in a little after 4am this morning), so I had the house to myself (and the fuzzy butts). I cranked it accordingly. Didn't do my hearing any favors, but man is that fun once in awhile.

Popcorn sounds good, Don. Be careful.

One day electronics could evolve so that TBN posts also support a "Smell this" feature, which would be great for this - though I guess other uses would get a few of us banned too.

I share your concern, Eric. That carne asada quesadilla I had yesterday afternoon had me goin' like an old steam train.

The black powder stories remind me of the old coot I ran into many years back at the range. He had an old repo Remington cap'n'ball six shooter, and he used bacon grease over the open ends of the chambers. After two rounds there was so much smoke you couldn't see him, and it smelled like Sunday mornin' bacon fryin'. Fond memories from childhood...

Mom fell this morning coming to breakfast, fell against the fridge and kinda sled down to the floor. She said her arm head and behind were a bit sore but ok. I was about a 1/2 step from catching her, makes you feel helpless watching it happen. Wife just came out from her room and mom's arm is bruised pretty bad but she bruises easy.

Looked over in the field about 350 yd away and the buzzards are sitting on the ground sunning with their wings out. Must be 50 out there.

Have a good morning. Ed

Good morning everyone-

Woke up to another 2" of snow on top of sleet this AM. That makes +38" total accumulation for the Season so far; still behind the typical season so far but that is changing. The temperature was 22F a half hour later it had dropped to 19F. Wind is picking up as this cold front strengthens gusts ~25mph presently. I've seen today's high temperature. I see a few mixed precipitation events for western MA in the near term. The modeled lows plus the present jet stream track make for a storm every couple of days tracking across the CONUS. I am only focusing on the Sunday/Monday event. It looks like a mixed precipitation event with western NE will be a predominantly snow event and coastal areas snow ending in freezing rain to possibly rain (mid week the pattern continues). Freezing rain and commercial airflight are not really compatible.

I spent the past +year entirely focused on the care of our two ailing and failing St. B.'s; keeping them pain free and helping them maintain some quality of life to their ends. I promised the wife that before we bring another dog or two into our lives we would take a trip. The trip starts Monday- we are going to Costa Rica. I used to work there with my "retirement" job mostly in the jungles and Gulf of Dulce. My Spanish speaking abilities are good enough that I can find a bathroom and/or order a beer. It's the second most place in the world second only to the Amazon River system as to bio-mass and specie diversity. So if my absence is noted, I do not have my undies in bunch over something or I am incapacitated.

We had some visitors this AM. It was almost as though they were waiting for me to broadcast that birdseed.

I saw this other picture on the internet. It touched me or at least the "little guy" still inside me.

My + thoughts, prayers, and wishes to all especially for those on the path to recovery.

Have a good one everyone.

8 this morning and headed to 31. 17 currently.

Yesterday was a forecast of 45 and rain. Well we started at 50 and by 5pm we had this.

Birds to be here before 10. All barns today. Have a few minor things to finish up today. Then it’s off to friends to help him set a wall back on the foundation. He had a post in his chicken coops knocked loose during his last catch.

Moved cows to winter feed lot yesterday and put them on an all hay diet. Well I supplement with some feed. Need to get creep feeder fixed and feed hopper finished. Calves are big enough to start creep feeding. Will creep feed till April when I wean them and switch them to a growing ration of hay, green grass and feed. That’s when I will make the decision to keep any heifers. Have 2 cows I’d like to replace and add a couple of head. But we’ll have to see how they grow.
